Since I was on the wrong section of the forum, my original thread has been locked and I was asked to post this here. so this is the New Let's All hate Fenris Thread !

 Seriously, guys... who hate Fenris ?! I sure does and this thread is the official ''Let's All hate fenris thread !''

This character is the actual worse character ever created in a BioWare game and I count Sonic Chronicles in the batch ! Yes... even Amy Rose was less annoying than Fenris ! He looks ugly and he is pure dumb... and worse than that : I feel this character like a bad Final Fantasy Ripoff ! and not an Awesome Final Fantasy like the firsts one, but a ''moralist **** à la XIII and Wanabee-Badass à la VII''...

What's wrong with this character ?



The Look

He's a young elven man... surely not an Albinos... but he has White hairs ! This concept come directly from aJapanese RPG and that is not what I want to play when I buy a BioWare game ! the Japanese stuff is generaly filled with colourfull hairs like blue, red, green, white even at 22 YO... Maybe because the asians all have black hairs and black eyes and they are jealous of the blonds and the gingers... Anyway. even his face looks wrong considering he has some white hairs... The guy's at the very beggining of the game looks like 22 YO or something similar. Jeez can he have some black or blond hairs please ? that's really not serious and considering you BioWare guys said in the DA:O developper's Diary that the realism is IMPORTANT even for fantasy, you did it wrong ! his ''Lyrium tattoos'' are not cools ! The dalish tattoos introduced in DA:O and avaible for Hawke in DA2 are original and amazing, and fit with the genre. but here, those white tattoos sounds weird... it remember me something I don't want to remember : L'cie crap from Final Fantasy XIII. 

His armour is horrible. it's a brown spandex (leather ?) armour with some duct taped plates... it's unusefull and even more stupid to wear in a fight than Isabela's semi-naked clothes... because Isabela's clothes fit with her combat style, and even I will not bring a full plated armour if i'm about to jump everywhere and use my SPEED. Plus she's a wh0re... But Fenris is a warrior and is supposed to have some STRENGTH, I assume he's supposed to have an armour similar to Aveline's armour or Hawke's Champion's armour. something huger. He's a tank ! Prince DLC is a rogue and wears more plate than Fenris ! Epic FAIL ! He's ridiculous and on top of that, he don't even look like the other elves like Merill... he's a man (*punch*) with huge ears (and not like in DA:O) : TOO MUCH JAPANESE STUFF !



''Tevinter Fugitive''


Let's first talk about ''Lyrium (OVERDRIVE MODE) Ghost''. this mode gives to Fenris a 20%+ Defense and a 20%+ Critical chance. good... but, like I said... HE LOOKS LIKE A FINAL FANTASY OVERDRIVED CHARACTER ! his only attack is named ''Spirit Pulse (L'cie)'' and does a Spirit damage wich is cool but... it's really stupid because for the Spirit damages I have Merill or Anders out o fhis Panacea buff... or if I play Rogue/Warrior I also have Bethany, the best spirit mage of the game if you don't like Fire and Cold. yes they are mages but actually when I must choose between a stupid Final Fantasy DPSer or a blonde widow with an actual aggro based archetype and a real Armour, I'll choose her and take one of those mages as a DPSer, because i'm pretty sure that they won't be killed because of my stupid tank. even the Archetype's description is pityfull :

''fueled by vengeance, Fenris is an unnerving foe and invaluable ally on the Battlefield''. 
''Fenris maintains an appearance of calm, but it is only a facade.''...

It's the kind of crap I can ear at Atop the 4th wall... right after something like ''I AM A MAN !'' (or ''I AM AN ELF !'') Fenris is unbalanced and ridiculously unusefull... Who wrote that guy ? Japan called, BioWare, they want their scenarist back or they'll destroy themselves !


Poorly Written

BioWare, you never created such a ridiculous character... I can't compare it with any other characters you wrote before because he feel like a FF fanboy who modded it into the game. his lines are inspid and ridiculous, there is nothing memorable about him. and the manner he thinks is just ridiculous !

Fenris : ''Hi you mage Player Character, I hate your archetype but can you help me to get it of this EVIL MAGE who want me as his slave ? Damn I hate you all son of ****es !''
...
Fenris : '' I want Freedom for everyone ! ****es !''
Anders : ''So you want to teh mages !''
Fenris : ''Mages suck, fool ! Go burn yourself, Maleficar ! Hope you rot on a Circle of Magi !''
...
Merill : ''Elves always did magic, it's in our roots ! ''
Fenris : ''**** you that doesn't count ! MALEFICAR ! GO BURN YOURSELF !''

it's insipid and don't make any sense ! I can understand that He suffered from a bunch of bad mages and wants revenge, But if I'm beated by a Skater I will not simply kill them all... and on top of that, He comes from the Tevinter Imperium and I assume he don't know anything about the maker and the Andraste's religion. So does he want to join the (Spoilers) at the end of act 3 ?


I personally wanted to use Fenris in my second walkthrough but f*ck it, I'm out of that douche. I'll retake Aveline as a tank, she's much more interresting and actually has much more interresting abilities. If you like me hate Fenris, don't forget to say hello and approves, and give your opinion. If you like him i'd like to have your opinion about him ! Good Game everyone !

i like the idea behind his personality and character but having him in my party makes me think im playing final fantasy. Makes me miss Carver of all people.

If you are playing a Rogue on Nightmare I think it's a lot more difficult without Fenris.

Avelline can take more damage but Fenris moves quickly and does serious CCC damage to end boss fights a lot faster than Avelline.

I believe I made a mistake taking Avelline instead of Fenris into the Deep Roads because it took forever to kill the Rock Wraith.

And I've never played any JRPGs or had any interest in them, perhaps this is why his appearance doesn't bother me. Incidentally, the performance by the voice actor playing Fenris is solid IMO.

They have Deathspank for this kind of jokes. not Dragon Age.

Of course not but this part is Off-topic. I was pinpointing the ''white coloured'' hairstyle of Fenris, linked to JRPG, linked to the japanese taste of. Hairbleach ! And even some Japs laugh of this, RIP-The creator of Pokémon created Jynx, who is not a satire of black peoples but a joke about this japanese Fashion for bleaching hairs, botoxing lips and tanning skin : Everything that fenris has ! 

And I don't really understand why a Western developper do that in his game. look at Fenris' eyebrows, he should have BLACK HAIRS ! what's the matter

Trauma can turn your hair white. I'm assuming this was the case when Fenris got his lyrium tattoos. As for why his eyebrows aren't white, I'm not all that sure.

i actually like fenris! hes pretty badass in my books! do you also hate the witcher because he got white hair? (if you know what game im talking about )

I have a love/hate relationship with Fenris. On Hard or lower, I love him for his amazing damage. On Nightmare, I hate him for his amazing damage (because it's often one-shotting party members).

you do it for him. took all of 4 seconds to b-slap him for even daring to stand against me on nm. Sten in Origins puts this chump too shame.(darkspawn chronicles)

Honestly, the JRPG influences (if they really are influenced from JRPG) aren't restricted to Fenris. I mean. What about:



I mean, what kind of sword is that for Hawke to use? It looks a bit ridiculous, especially when he's wielding it at light speed.

I don't mind the white hair, though. It's a game full of mystery and such. Who's to say that his white hair wasn't caused by his lyrium infusion? And, for that matter, isn't it possible to get white hair at a really young age, naturally? I think I've read that it's possible, although very rare.

I actually quite like Fenris. He's probably my favourite character from DA2. His back story is no more 'emo' than Viconia's, and his theme music is just amazing.

Sort of out of topic, but I just wanted to address that having people can have white hair during childhood, I started getting white hair when I was 3, and by 15 My head is completely White. I think it has something to do with a lack of B12

I rather enjoyed Fenris. I'm not sure about his hair or other aspects of his appearance though I suspect we'll learn more about Fenris or others like him in later installments of this series and can then get a better idea of what makes him tick and how he compares to other slave swords of the Imperium.

As for his moodiness ... he and his family had been enslaved, he had been mutilated (tattooing and branding against one's will can be considered nothing less despite the attractiveness,) and had been made to feel so hopeless at times that he killed people that he can come to respect (and perhaps even love to some extent.) I can't imagine living that life and not coming out of the situation scarred. I don't know that I would deal with it as Fenris has -- but everyone deals with their reality in their own way.

As for looking frail for a warrior (especially a tank) I would concur. I imagine that his role wasn't intended to be a tank. Aveline was given to us for that purpose. We're could also start to argue the limitations of the single armor choice that our companions are given ... but that is best reserved for a different thread.

Fenris wasn't my favourite character in the game, but I can't say that I hate him. I suppose I must have liked him somewhat in order to defend him as I have.
