I think the character is enjoyable, and I liked his rivalmance, but I wish he would tidy his house a bit! I was glad that he never asked to move into Hawke's house, or I might have had to turn him down.

One playthrough and he is hated? Knee jerk reaction threads are lame.
Yea well, because as we all know spoiled milk just gets better and better as you drink more.
When i started playing mass effect 2 i didn't like some of the characters but that changed over time. First impressions can be harsh thats all i meant. I thought merril was naive and kind of sweet, now i could strangle her, although i wouldn't create a hate thread about any character, im just saying.
I didn't realise it was wrong to have an opinion.
I get what your saying and theres nothing wrong with an oppinion, but this is a hate Fenris thread so there is little point to read it for someone who likes him. I wont go into a Fenris love thread since my eyes will have a difficult time stopping from rolling inside their sockets.
It's a subjective thing, so no amount of convincing will do any good either way. Actually I like just about every character from ME or DA, but Fenris grated on my nerves from the start heh, for many and various reasons.
I get what you mean, i like all the characters and see their 'grating' parts also. Bringing Fenris and Anders is a good example, the moaning! Even Carver. I just see how they have their reasons, Fenris was treated very badly (like Jack in ME2, bring the rage), Anders has seen and heard things done against mages that border on abuse if not 'is' abuse. They are rattled, if it was unjustifiable i would complain but its not.
Sweetness and light after their experiences would be stupid.

Sweetness and light after their experiences would be stupid.
Sweetness and light after their experiences would be Zevran.
Or at least, "cheerful and cheeky winks after their experiences would be Zevran".
Seriously, the dude turned up in Act 3 and I was stunned at how cheerful he was compared to just about everyone Hawke knows. I was romancing Fenris and he did some grumpy muttering that ****blocked my Hawke in that encounter though, so he couldn't join in the cuddle party that Isabella and Zevran were hosting.

Zevran seemed to enjoy his time with the crows though, he enjoyed the killing and didn't portray to be a victim except that he was sold into it as a child. Being a crow was all he knew and as an adult this was now Zevrans job, he loved Antiva and the many pleasures associated with it all. This was not a man suffering lol.

And then when he constantly started berating Merrill, I left the lyrium-branded, tickle-me-emo elf at his mansion so that he could brood alone.
Second playthrough: I realized he was a cool character. I assumed he would be if given a chance even as I stopped using him in the first playthrough. You have to use him a lot and see all of his commentary on the various quests to really like him, I'd guess.
The hair. He probably is a bit JRPG-inspired but not excessively so. For one thing, people actually can have white hair even at a young age--as opposed to say blue, purple, pink or green hair--in our world. And our world is a good thing to borrow from when constructing fantasy worlds. So giving him white hair is acceptable. Giving him sherbert/snowcone hair like in some animes or JRPG's would have been crossing the line. Not saying there's anything wrong JPRG's--I'm just saying DA should not be taking its artistic cues from them. The kinds of salons, spritzes, hair gels, and manicures needed to make Final Fantasy happen just aren't a part of Thedas. That said, white hair: even if it was in fact inspired by JRPG's, since it's possible in our world, it's okay to me.

From what we know of the Fereldan Circle (reasonable templars, comfy dorms, everybody kissing everybody) Zevran had a rougher time than Anders did at least.
Everyone deals with horrible baggage in different ways, but Fenris and Anders both seem to wallow and bemoan their fates quite a bit. Fenris even accepts that it's a bad thing, saying that he continues to chew over old wounds and make himself remain a victim by defining himself by past injustices.

Honestly, the JRPG influences (if they really are influenced from JRPG) aren't restricted to Fenris. I mean. What about:
I mean, what kind of sword is that for Hawke to use? It looks a bit ridiculous, especially when he's wielding it at light speed.
I don't mind the white hair, though. It's a game full of mystery and such. Who's to say that his white hair wasn't caused by his lyrium infusion? And, for that matter, isn't it possible to get white hair at a really young age, naturally? I think I've read that it's possible, although very rare.
Quick everybody there's a big sword in the game Bioware going JRPG, riot!
