I've seen Warrior ones and I recall a Mage one. The closest is coreywaslegend's Nightmare Solo Recreation Project, but that isn't really a guide.

Anybody?
Also, anyone try a build that doesn't depend on one Weapon type (I asked about the same thing for Warriors before here)?

P.S. I'm a 360 player, no Goad/Armistice, they're bugged.

I am still in Act 2 and figuring out the best options, but I started out as exclusively a DW rogue on Nightmare.

Then I found a pretty powerful bow and realized how convenient it is to start out ranged, oneshot Lieutenants with arrows and then move in for the kill with DW ccc moves.

This is why the Rogue is the most fun to play IMO, you can deal serious cross class combo dps with both melee and ranged.

I realized I should put some points into Archery as well for a few additional the DISORIENT and BRITTLE cross class combos. (However, it seems the Disorienting Shot ability is bugged - I never get any disorients, would not recommend this ability until it is fixed in a patch.)

I think the best build for a rogue is a mix of Archery and Dual Wield, specializing in Assassin and Shadow. In most big battles, I start out ranged, using Assasinate ranged on one of the lieutenants and set up some ccc, then close in with dual wield Backstab, Unforgiving Chain, Explosive Strike (on STAGGERED enemy) and Assassinate again (on a BRITTLE boss/Lieutenant with lots of debuffs).

I don't know of any good Rogue guides, but I'm now considering respeccing with the talents below (keep in mind I'm only in Act 2, haven't finished the game yet). Now I'm reconsidering this plan because Disorienting Shot does not work for me, so perhaps I need to put some points into Sabotage earlier to get Overpowering Fog.

CROSS class COMBOS
Set up DISORIENTED enemies (-50% defense)
-Pinning Shot+Disorienting Shot
-Disorienting Criticals
-Fatiguing Fog+Overpowering Fog
-Confusion+Chaos

Extra damage on BRITTLE (takes +50% critical damage)
-Bursting Arrow+Shattering Arrow (+600% damage vs BRITTLE)
-Assassinate+Annihilate (+400% dmg vs BRITTLE)
-Archer's Lance + Punishing Lance (+600% dmg vs BRITTLE, +6 base dmg vs BRITTLE) - I don't think I can reach a high enough level to have enough talent points for this one

Extra damage on STAGGERED (-25% attack, -25% defense)
- Explosive Strike+Merciless Strike (+400% dmg vs STAGGERED)
- Lacerate+Main (+100% dmg vs STAGGERED)

ATTRIBUTES
High Dex, Cunning, 20+ points in Con, Willpower and a few points in STR.

I already found two different items that boost lockpick score, so the highest Cunning you need in order to open Master locks is only 20. (each items boosts cunning 10 points for lockpick and trap disarm purposes), however with Devious Harm, every cunning point adds to critical dmg percent, and I've seen some Massive DW Assassinate damage with end game rogues who have very high cunning .

ABILITIES
1. Miasmic Flask
2. Backstab (Requires Level 2)
3. Rush (Requires Level 3)
4. Unforgiving Chain (Requires Level 3)
5. Evade
6. Pinning Shot (Requires Level 2)
7. Explosive Strike (Requires Level 4)

(I would use one Tome of Physical Technique from Hubert's Goods before going to Deep Roads)

Specialization: Assassin (Requires Level 7)

Tome #1. Bloodlust (Requires Level 8)

8. Mark of Death (Requires Level 7)
9. Pinpoint Strikes (Requires Level 9)
10. Assassinate (Requires Level 10)
11. Stealth (Requires Level 3)
12. Merciless Strike (Requires Level 8)
13. Bursting Arrow (Requires Level 3)

Tome/Elixir #2. Shattering Arrow (Requires Level 9)
Tome/Elixir #3. Lacerate (I would instead get Disorienting Shot, but it is currently BUGGED, not worth it unless fixed in a patch)
Tome/Elixir #4 Annihilate
Tome/Elixir #5 Maim

Level 14 Specialization - Shadow (Requires Level 14)
(There is one more Tome sold by the Dalish merchant in Act 2, plus one of the evil tomes gives you 2 more ability points. Also 1 Elixir available for rogue at Black Emporium for total of 4 extra talents in Act 2)

15. Perforate (Requires Level 6)
16. Pinpoint Precision (Requires Level 7)
17. Silent Running (Requires Level 7)
18. Overkill (Requires Level 16)
19. Relentless Strikes (Requires Level 13)
20. Devious Harm (Requires Level 12)
21. Lingering Shroud (Requires Level 6)
22. Blindside (Requires Level 5)
23. Back-to-Back (Requires Level 3)
24. Twist the Knife (Requires Level 7)
25. Ambush (Requires Level 4)
26. Charge (Requires Level 7)
27. Fatiguing Fog (Requires Level 7)
28. Disorienting Criticals (Requires Level 9)
29. Chameleon's Breath (Requires Level 4)
30. Chameleon's Cloud (Requires Level 7)

31. Confusion (Requires Level 5)
32. Overpowering Fog (Requires Level 13)
33. Chaos (Requires Level 9)
34. Impenetrable Fog (Requires Level 11)

The level cap is 50, but 25-30 is probably the highest possible level you can reach without exploiting any glitches or cheats.

I'll tell you what. Once I finish my rogue playthrough, I will work on a thorough guide to both Dual Wield and Archer Rogues. I have experience with the class as well as experience designing guides such as the Engineer and Infiltrator guides I made for Mass Effect 2. Just give me time and i'll have this guide up in no time.

I'm starting a Rogue today so it may not serve me in time, but looking forward to it nonetheless.

I haven't seen any real guides, but I discuss my builds some in a thread I started at low levels.

http://social.biowar...5/index/6483842

My current build is a lot different than I originally proposed, and is linked in later posts. I've considered making a new thread in the format of a guide, but have been lazy so far. :P

I wanted a build not devoted to DW or Archery, if possible.

What are the big differences between them? I assume DW eventually get better stats if only because the get 2 weapons.

The obvious difference between the two builds is that they are range and melee based. Without specializations, dual wield rogues get all of their damage from backstab and fervor, but mainly backstab. They attack swiftly, espacially if you get the aura to go with it. However, I prefer to get the aura that has a chance to stun with basic attacks given how fast DW attacks to begin with.

Archers offer a lot of single target damage and can also provide good control via Smoke Arrow and Rain of Arrows. Granted the snare from Rain isn't all that special. Lance does some serious damage as well.

If you're looking for a good stealth build, then you definately want to spec into Backstab as combining stealth and backstab can be truly devastating. Smoke Bomb is beneficial because it makes you obscure and thus, increases your damage when you are obscure. I haven't really worked much on a rogue outside of Archer / DW specced but I assume the third option is designed purely for control and not damage.

I hear Backstab isn't worth much beyond positioning because you get similar, if not better DPS from auto attacking during it's animation.

I think I may go with a build that doesn't devote to any weapon type in particular, if nor Archery, because I like the Green Arrow.

Except for very low levels, you're right about Backstab. It's good for positioning and dodging attacks, not for damage.

Assassinate and Vendetta work with both bows or daggers, by the way, so you could switch it up if you prefer. Just for fun, I tested an Archery/Assassinate build on Orsino (Nightmare) earlier and it was pretty good times.

The sustained damage wasn't quite as high as my DW rogue build, but it was a lot easier to play because I could just stand still and pewpew. For some phases of certain fights (like Ancient Rock Wraith), it might be worth it to pull out a bow just to save the hastle of trying to avoid AoE, even with a DW build. Makes me wish there were Weapon Sets like in DA:O. :P

Last boss on nightmare with a bow is a joke, with DW... its all about dodging Fenris ;) he kills me way more often than the boss.

duelist defensive rogue (highest armor and defense possible) i avoided HP since this was an experiment to see how defense works on nightmare.

As for Backstab its kinda bad, use it as a lazy way to get back position. You need 1 point in it anyway for all the stuff in the tree.

Yeah if there were weapon sets to quickly switch between bow and daggers rogue would be the coolest most fun class to play.
As it is, it still works but you will only bother to switch in really important fights. also the shadow veil skill seems to be bugged making the disorienting criticals almost useless.
the disorienting pinning shot works if sebastian does it, but not for varric.

Sadly, I think DW is in almost every way inferior to ranged on nightmare. Even the weakest enemy knocks u back with every hit. And the bows have incredible damage plus they knock enemies back... DPS is higher for melee, but u die so much more often....

Disorienting Criticals + Cameleon Breath is awesome, its a free 25% crit dmg on every attack and your warriors will love the disorient on every hit.

I just finished the game on Hard (PC) with what started out as an experiment, A Rogue with no Dual Wield or Archery talents.  Ended the game at lvl 24.

I used a bow the whole game, it worked out quite well actually.

I wrote down my talent build as I progressed here it is:

1) Miasmic Flask
2) Evade
3) Precision
4) Stealth
5) Blindside
6) Rush
7) Mark of Death, Unlock Assassination tree
8) Bloodlust
9) Pinpoint Strikes
9a) Blitz (point from vendor tome or potion)
10) Assassinate
11) Fatiguing Fog
12) Devious Harm
13) Impenetrable Fog
13a) Overpowering Fog (point from vendor tome or potion)
14) Annihilate, Unlock Shadow tree
14a) Pinpoint Precision (point from vendor tome or potion)
15) Disorienting Criticals
16) Overkill
17) Tactical Withdrawl
18) Relentless Strikes
19) Enduring Mark
20) Mark of Doom
21) Chameleion's Breath
22) Chameleon's Cloud
23) Speed
24) Power

My party during Act 1 was Merril, Varric, and Aveline.
I switched Aveline out for Fenris in Act2 once he had enough talent points to be good without needing Aveline, and played with him through the rest of the game (aside from character missions requiring Aveline).

Varric needs his speciality tree quite badly.  Most of the Archery talents are useless but Varric can stand to upgrade a few of them (pinning shot for more damage, shorter cooldown).

I purposely took Merril to avoid any temptation for healing, she was for support & damage (full Primal Tree, 4 points in force for stun & cage, Hex of Torment, Horror + Upgrade, Most of Spirit (everything but Spirit Mastery and Death Siphon).   She only needed a lyrium potion or two until endgame, as the rest of the party could control things most times.  The force stun is pretty awesome on a 10sec cooldown.  I did not use Merril's talent tree at all.

For the most part abilities like Pinpoint Strikes are used to blow up waves of critter level creatures since I'm not using a mage to do it.  Being on PC I set everyones AI to default and no tactics, except ranged characters switch to and kill critter level minions when they exist.  There are a lot of enemy archers in this game and they need to be told whos boss :)  The obscured buffs are quite strong for defense, very useful for fighting everything but spellcasters.

There are jewelry items for immunity to flanking/stuns/knockbacks and those are all good for fenris in this setup.

Looking back I would have taken the stun on the upgrade to Evade sooner, and upgraded Miasmic Flask instead of taking Blitz on Rush (though Blitz early game is pretty nice, it dies out later unless you are scrounging for some extra aoe 'oomph').

I tried a few skills, and now I respecced from shadow to assassin duelist fighting with bows a lot. It seems really strong, I miss the decoy skill from shadow but other than that shadow is pretty lame.

Duelist gives you + 40 % Attack and Defense each (20% passive skills, 20% from sustained skill)
PLUS a teleport across the whole battlefield backstab attack with bonus vs staggered foes which works with a bow!

and Assassin has assassinate which did like 8000 dmg for me vs a brittle foe (on lvl 15), PLUS stamina recovery on each kill.
Thats rly very strong if coupled with a bow, I also like archer's lance - if foes are running at u in a line it can do TREMENDOUS damage.
Also bowshots knock weaker enemies back, so better survivability^^

sad that pinning shot never seems to work properly, a disorienting pinning shot followed by an upgraged walking bomb would be sooo devastating.

Part of why I'm tempted by Archery. Great bow for Act one, doesn't need any Dex too.

%5 Attack Speed, meaning more DPS vs small 2m AoE of 7 Damage and an Attack Boost

Sounds even. Adder is aviable earlier and has no requirements too.

I think Adder of Antiva is only available if you have the Signature edition. I bought mine on Steam, so it didn't come with that bow.

I think I used Song of Sparrows and Cruel Dagger in Act 1 - Blade of Red Birth was available toward the end.

Thrice Bound is another good Act 1 dagger to keep in your inventory because it provides lockpick bonus.

In Act 2 I'm using mostly Coterie Shiv + Blade of Red Birth + Elemental Weapons buff

It does come in that edition. I got it from said edition's DLC.
