ok, im trying to decide weather to go with 1 point or 6 points in specialist

30% attack and 15% crit chance seems pretty nice when i should have around 150% (just a guess) critical damage... i just don't see how people get his critical chance up (outside of flanking attacks)

i would really like to see my archer do amazing things as soon as he walks in the door rather than once i have the aggro managed.

i figure, the 30% attack will get him pretty close to 100% along with heroic buff and high dex, but i can't seem to figure out where the 100% crit mid-game people are talking about outside of flanking attacks.

1 point early on.  If you don't know what to put points into later on, max out Specialist.  It's what I did.

Looking over my Rogue (was DW BTW, but stats would've been nearly identical).  With just my normal party sustains on, I had 80% Crit and 250% Crit Damage, and a 90% Chance to vs. Bosses.  I ended up using Speed fully upgraded in the Specialist tree.  I had nearly +70% Crit Damage and +25% Crit Chance from gear alone.

Keep in mind you need either 41 or 42 Dexterity to use the best weapons, and every point of Dexterity is 1% Crit.  You'll easily get this around level 14-17 depending on you spend points.  I alternated between 2 Dex/1Cun and 1 Dex/1 Cun/1 Con until I hit the markers for equipment, then 2 Cun/ 1 Con from then on.

Precision is WAY overkill if you have decent gear, both for Attack% and Crit%.

I firmly believe that you cannot go wrong with the Specialist tree. As SlamminHams said, Precision isn't at all worth it, but Speed and Might are insane. I personally went Might on my dagger rogue, and used Might on all of my rogues because I love RNG stuns, but really as long as you have the final talent (and aren't upgrading Precision), you're using your points well.

Going to the second tier in specialist isn't worthwhile if you're only worried about crit.  You'd be better off just going Assassin and getting fully upgraded Pinpoint Strikes.

Precision IS a worthwhile ability on its own, however.  Even if you put every single attribute point into Dexterity, you're never going to get over 90% hit versus bosses without either Precision or Rally on a warrior with Control, assuming upgraded mage auras.  The bonus from Precision lets you focus more points into Cunning, which will provide a better damage boost with the aforementioned Assassin build while increasing utility and survivability besides.

thanks for the input guys, i just have to figure out Aveline now.

I hope i can obtain those items you were talking about, they seem insain. i plan on a respec during act 2, im thinking i should hold on to precision until that happens anyway and then switching over to speed

You're better off using an upgraded Speed at that point.  70% Base, +15% from Valiant Aura, +10% from Harmony.
