So I'm playing the game as Merrill's lover. I gave her the tool the fix the mirror. The next time I talk to her in her house (literally haven't gone anywhere or done any quests), she's crying about something happening to her people. I have no idea wtf she's talking about, and she ends up getting rid of the mirror.
The mirror is still gone, and I haven't had any other way to "continue" her quest, besides conforting her crying.
Seems like the entire storyline just.. didn't happen.
Sigh.. wtf happened...
Merrill's glitchy story.. tell me what happened?

Oh also, since I read something about the option to kill her people or whatever. I never did that, and they're all still very much alive despite her crying.

The events that explain the crying will happen later. The dialogue triggers before the quest line, and the devs are aware of the problem and will hopefully patch it up soon. In the meantime, keep playing and you'll find out.

It's a pretty common bug, happens whether you romance her or not.
She has the dialogue (starts with "She's gone") where she's crying before you've done her last companion quest.
You should still be able to get her last companion quest even though the end dialogue has already played out.
Also, having the mirror suddenly disappear from her house no matter what you say to her is part of the glitch.
