1. I do like the new gathering and crafting system, its really cool. Keep it, maybe add some extra-epic recipe possibilities if you REALLY do the work to find the ingredients :) .

2. I'd be more for mostly new companions, the only ones I'd like to see back would be Bethany and Varric (assuming they'd like to use Varric as the story-teller again, which would probably be a good idea).

3-4. I agree about the enemy randomness and letting us know how many waves are coming, stuff like that would definitely help make the game more tactical and exciting.

5-6. The junk tab is OK I guess, I didn't really care that much for it but its not like its 'bad' or anything, it does give you a chance to collect interesting-sounding items that can be turned into cash, so thats nice :) . And the elemental weapons thing, OK, I just sort of give Merrill (and Bethany during the portion of the game she's part of the team) whatever I think is best and then just dont worry about it, so there definitely could be room for improvement there for all I know :) .

7. Indeed, more female dwarves, where did they go? DAO was the only game/movie/whatever that Ive ever seen with attractive female dwarves, and then they disappear in the sequel? What's up with that?

In addition to those ideas, I'd like to see other improvements, such as an improved dialogue wheel. Having played ME and ME2, I pretty much always felt like Shepard was saying what I thought she was going to say. This is not the case in DA2, far from it. I don't know why they had such a problem with that, but maybe ask the ME folks to help with it next time, they clearly know how to do it right. Another idea, if the next main character is going to have any family members, it'd be great if we could get a new, separate writer just for them, because clearly whoever was involved this go round likes to kill them off way too much, we need somebody who is capable of leaving them all alive for once :) . What little we got of Bethany was great, but obviously there could've been so much more. She's such an awesome character, she should definitely be back in DA3 if they bring anybody from DA2 back.

So I'd say all those ideas would make for a really good start on a great DA3!

This'll be a bit long (I'm bored...and at work :D )

1. Choice to play as a new protagonist, Hawke, or the Warden OR play as one and have the others in your party
I wouldn't mind/care if the Warden remains 'voiceless', but I wouldn't mind him/her being voiced as well (provided it's a good one, I guess. I liked the 'gruff' sounding one for the Male Warden. I think it's NOT the one complaining about a ladder on his back or something all the time...)

Of course, if there could only be 'one choice', I'd like to see the Warden come back, too. :)

2. Bring back characters from DA:O to DA2: Morrigan, Leliana (and Cassandra), Fluffy the Mabari, Varric, Isabela, Merrill, etc...and have them as companions, with their own quests, of course.
Oh, and more options in terms of what gear they can use (like in DA:O). Or, if they're going to stick w/ the DA2 system, then more options to tweak your companions' gear's looks/capabilities (depending on build, etc.)

3. A longer game with little or no re-used locations (if I go to Noble A's mansion, it'd be weird if has the same interior as the mansion of Noble B and C, especially if the exteriors are different). In the first playthrough, DA2 took me under 70 hours, and DA:O took me under 110 hours.

4. More defining of the scale of the location/s (or 'establishing shots': IMHO, the entry into Kirkwall was lacking in giving the player a sense of the scale/size of the city. A fly-over of the city, like that in the start of Oblivion, would've been welcome. While there is a larger/wider 'shot' of Kirkwall later in the game, IMHO, an earlier one would've been nice)

5. Keep the current combat pace from DA2, but maybe tone down the animations for the rogue a wee bit. :D
The mechanics, while a bit MMO-ish (esp. when facing bosses), is ok, too.

6. Improvement on visual atmosphere. DA2 is an improvement over DA:O, but it could be better (example: subterranean environments still look a bit 'too bright'. I mean, it's also kinda odd to see torch-lit caverns and then find out that they're infested by Giant Spiders. :P )

7. Orlais. For the most part, I like the architecture for DA2 (which is why I think it's a pity we aren't given a 'grander view' of it all), and I'm really curious to see how they'd depict Orlais (which I imagine would look less 'bleak' then Kirkwall's environs) and Val Royeaux in particular (especially the main Cathedral thingy of the Chantry)

8. Tevinter. Minrathous, in particular.

9. Par Vollen.

10. An option to see the ENTIRE LINE of dialogue that my character will speak on the dialogue menu (I don't care if they revert it to the DA:O one, or to the radial one in DA2). An option to pick between 'short summary' and 'what I'll say in full' would be nice.
Or a 'mix' of the two: at first display, every dialogue option's like in DA2 now, a short summary, but after hovering the cursor on the option, the full text will display. Something like that.

11. It may not be practical, overall, but I like the idea of my character having a 'backup' weapon he/she can switch to (as w/ DA:O). I'd like to see that back, but, next time around, it'd be nice to see all the carried weapons appear. (kinda like The Witcher, I guess. Sheaths/scabbards would be nice, too :D )

12. Horses? Griffons? Cthulhu-like sea monstrosities? Mounts! :D

13. Ship travel. Even if it's just like the travel on the map style thingy in DA:O, but with encounters at sea and 'visits' on various ports.
A full on ship 'mini-game' (think Sid Meier's 'Pirates!') would be great. :P

14. I was hoping that, for DA2, the whole 'rise to power' thing would involve raising an army. It's not one of the reasons that I'm disappointed w/ DA2, but it would've been nice.
So, an army raising thingy, with options, and maybe some resource management, too, for DA3.

15. I like the Day/Night cycle thing in DA2, but maybe not the 'there's a chest here at night, but not at day (or vice versa)' thing. Night tends to be a bit bright in Kirkwall, too. Still, I'd like to see it return in the next game.

16. DA:O's camera (iso view and detachable camera). It was a pain to fight at times, in DA2, especially in cramped areas or when the characters are near walls or doorways.

17. No more waves...but bigger battles. If there's anything I can say I truly enjoyed in DA2, it's mowing down weak opponents (while running more smoothly than DA:O did with, perhaps, fewer opponents on screen than my typical fight in DA2)...but the 'fun' didn't tend to last long because I had to wait for the 'next wave'.
So, no more waves please...just bigger battles. It would probably be nice to fight in the van of an army, too (kinda like the battle of Denerim...but bigger).
:D

18. More options to affect the storyline. Less 'forced' events. There were some instances in DA2 wherein I was quite annoyed that I wasn't even given the chance to respond to the situation (w/ dialogue, that is). It really felt 'forced'. a
Make me work for an outcome I desire (or something that approximates desired outcome) by giving me options, please (something along the lines of the options available to resolve the situation in Redcliffe and the Arl's son in DA:O).

19. I liked the resource/crafting/enchantment system, so more of that, please, if not an improvement. (maybe have runes that work together well produce additional benefits. Or have the option to mix potions)

20. I don't recall ever seeing Qunari explosives (or cannon) at work in DA2, so I'd like to see that in DA3 (and if Shale returns as a companion, I'd like to mount a cannon on top of her. Or one on each shoulder. My personal warjack)

21. The other good ideas on this thread, like Lulong's and Kilshrek's on this page.

22. Oh, and a game that feels 'less rushed', too. ;)

1. The same Gathering/Crafting system.

2. Our DA II companions.

4. A bit of randomness in enemy waves.

5. Keep the junk tab.

Agree with the above, can't believe anyone would not want the junk tab and have to go searching through their inventory for what they want to sell.

I'd actually like Hawke to come back, he/she is a much more vivid character to me than the Warden was.

Keep the ability progression system but perhaps expand it and allow companions access to all  trees in their type.

Dual wield warrior back.

Keep the wheel and character interaction systems, maybe refine the friendship rivalry system more.

1. Dark gritty fantasy instead of comic book fantasy. A more down to earth approach to gameplay. Toning down all three classes equally. Animations can be cool without being silly. DA2 has such an abundance of silly things they really damage immersion and clash with the mature story. It feels like the devs were scared of taking their own game seriously.

2. Combat system that is deeper and makes sense. E.g. Armor values that are comparable to damage values. Defense values that are comparable to attack values. Resistances that are comparable to elemental damage. Blocking, parrying and dodging animations for combat instead of the mindless hack and slash of DA2.

3. Reworking of the attribute system. This is something DnD does a lot better and Bioware should take note. I'd like to see character creation that involves meaningful choices about the characters stats instead of just linear progression of basically two stats from their basic values. Stats and experience levels overlap too much in the DA system.

DA 2 combat system BUT with DAO finishing moves

Better balanced enemy spawning (But NO DAO shuffling!)

Play dress up doll with companions (Maybe unlock more outfits for them via quests. Or buy stuff only THEY can wear etc.)

More enviroments

A combination of the dialogue system and the spread out relationships in DAO and DA2

Personalities for voiced hero/ine.

Friendship/Rivalry paths. (No more punishment for disagreeing with followers ala DAO) And no more "Have a gift!" "I wuv you!" romance. DA2 is a major improvement.

The same quality banter as in DA2

Presents as in DA2, no more junk presents for companions

More locations

Enchantment effects

Day and night cycles

Race selection in the Chargen

Keep the darker, more gritty writing from DA2 but polish it up even more (Act III conclusion, I am looking at YOU!)

Secret companion

DA2 companions I want back: VARRIC. Aveline. Fenris.

Dwarf romance

Import DAO+DA2 saves

A toolset

And that's all I can think of atm. :happy:

1. Same combat as DA2. I really disliked the snail combat from DA:O when i could fall asleep while fighting, not to mention that kind of slowpaced combat was way too easy even on Nightmare.

2. Keep the VO and convo wheel, it adds a lot to the atmosphere that youre actually part of the enviorment and conversations, instead of being a mute dummy.

3. Keep the way talents are in DA2 aswell, they are spreaded around decently compared to DA:O where as mage you could have all kind of CC, making game relatively easy.

4. Dont rehash areas like you did in DA2. I understand that theres a lot more quests in DA2 compared to Origins, but im sure everyone would like to see longer questlines and bigger and deeper areas, instead of doing 5-6 quests in same warehouse or same segment of outdoor area so many times.

5. Combine the coolest companions from O and DA2 if the story in DA3 will allow that of course. Would love to have Cassandra, Leliana, Isabela, Varric, Morrigan, etc in the same party. Also if the direction that DA3 plans to go will be to play with either Warden or Hawke, playing one while other one is your party member would be a great asset.

There is more, but ill be happy if the story is good and interesting, leaning more to DA2 type of storytelling of course, DA:O was too cliché.

I would like to add something: I don't want DA3 to be the conclusion to a trilogy. I love the Dragon Age universe, and would like to see the world of Thedas continue on game after game. I know trilogies are hot right now, but many game settings and franchises have continued on for countless games (Elder Scrolls and Final Fantasy jump right out in my mind).

For me, the world of Thedas is one of the mose unique, interesting, and well thought out campaign settings I have ever seen, and I want to still be pre-ordering DA games for decades.

I want the plot item tab back. I get that it is still there but hidden... I want to see it. When doing something like collecting Qunari swords, and I know how many there are total, I'd like to be able to look and see how many I've picked up without keeping a pad of paper beside me to take notes.

For a character like Hawke, I'd like to see some form of income. I own a 50% share of a mine (100% share by the end), I think it would be nice to see money coming in from that. Instead of from rusty spoons and torn trousers.

More of the same, storywise. By this I don't mean a story clone of DA:O or DA2, but another sampling of what the writers can put together. I loved the dark tragedy of DA2 (by loved, I meant was emotionally involved and hated when things happened) and many of the characters. Even the villains... the Arishok was one of the best characters, let alone villains, in a Bioware game to date. Varric and Merril were absolutely great. And they did it all without feeling like it was a DA:O clone. Even Anders, the original DA:O companion clone, had a personality all his own this time.

I agree. I would like to see the Dragon Age franchise fill out as much as the Final Fantasy franchise (which I am not a fan of, but it's got like 283 sequels so far).

I’m greedy, I want:
1. GRIFFONS! Preferably my own…
2. A “dysfunctional family” like I had in Origins. No more Companions that basically don’t hang out unless I call on them.
3. The Warden AND Hawke playable.
4. MORE QUNARI
5. To meet Morrigan’s Baby… I mean the kid’s gotta be a teenager by now.
6. To have a nice long talk with Flemeth… or have her as a companion for that matter.
7. To go to Anderfels, Tevinter and Orlais
8. To see Ailistar riding into battle with a huge army
9. To have a loved, old friend become my worst enemy (maybe Morrigan, Leliana or even Ailistar… oh that would be the gruesome!!!)
10. Change Thedas COMPLETELY!!!
I want DA 3 be so freaking EPIC that it will leave me staring at the blank screen after the credits have rolled…

PS yeah, I don't want it to end after 3 installments, I just want to write a little more history and then we can move on to DA4 :)

Keep the voice acting protagonist, get rid of that annoying wave after wave after wave combat! God that drives me into madness! Dead Space 2 did this, its boring, boring, BORING!

Get rid of this mass effect dialogue and bring back the original dialogue, more choices and the chance to talk about random ****. But keep the talking protagonist.

1. DA:O's combat. I much preferred DA:O's slower-paced, more thoughtful and more tactical combat over DA2's flashy, fast-paced, enemies-exploding-all-over-the-place combat. If anything give me something inbetween both, but DA:O's pace would be perfect.

1a. Please, please no more enemy waves spawning on top of my party out of thin air. This ruined the combat for me, and with combat being such a huge part of the game this was a MAJOR issue. It's a cheesy, gamey mechanic that I hope I'll never see in a BW game again.

1b. Bring back the zoomable, moveable tactical isometric camera on PC. No idea why this was cut... DA:O had the best implementation of this type of camera to date, so bring it back please. It belongs in this series.

1c. Bring back finishing moves. I expect their removal was a result of the faster-paced combat and the overall frequency with which enemies tend to explode... Well, IMO one awesome-looking finishing move on a giant ogre at the end of a long, tense fight is infinitely more rewarding than having enemies being knocked around and explode whenever you so much as poke them.

2. A DA:O type skills system combined with DA2's crafting system. I missed developing skills like Coercion, Stealing and Survival but liked what DA2 did with the crafting system, as I never used any of the crafting skills in DA:O. A possibility here would be to expand on DA:O's skill system so we end up with something more similar to NWN2 or Fallout: New Vegas and leave the crafting system the way it was in DA2.

2a. Skill checks in dialogue. Good examples of games that did this well are Fallout: New Vegas and some of the NWN2 titles. It makes skills and character development feel more important, and makes the game more immersive.

3. DA2's class system. I liked how the different classes were more refined in DA2 and loved the new talent/spell trees. Keep this the way it was in DA2 and I'll be happy.

3a. Bring back the unlocking of specializations through questing and exploration. This was a very cool feature in DA:O and made specializations feel a lot more special and unique, and discovering them is much more rewarding then just getting them at a pre-determind level.

4. A larger world. I loved the scope of DA:O/DA:A's world, the variety of locations, seeing the different cultures' architecture, the traveling, the exploration, etc. It was awesome and I missed it a lot in DA2; It felt way to confined.

4a. Minimize the re-using of areas. This was another major issue for me. It almost completely killed immersion and is simply unacceptable in a AAA title.

5. Full control over my companions' gear. I like micromanaging my party's equipment, seeing my companions' appearance change based on which gear I give them, etc. A unique weapon or other item here and there is fine, but in the end let me decide what my companions use. My DA:O and DA:A companions looked awesome near the end of those campaigns, and that was a result of my decisions and hard work, which was very, very rewarding.

5a. Bring beack weapon sets. Especially as a Rogue I missed the option to switch from melee to ranged at the click of a button a lot.

6. A better-developed codex. The codex in the DA series is a bit of hit and miss. I liked how extensive it was in DA:O/DA:A and I liked the categories, but didn't like the numeric format. Making it text-based in DA2 was an improvement, but removing some of the categories was a step back. I'd love to see a vastly improved codex in DA3, a good example would be The Witcher's or the Mass Effect series' codexes.

I´d like to see companions from the places we have not seen yet, basically Nevarra and the Anderfels.

I have said this several times, but a character along the lines of a seasoned dragonslayer from Nevarra would be an excelent choice for companion. And maybe through his obsessions and expectations about death (Nevarra is the only place that does not burn, but bury dead people) can tell us a good chunk about that area.

I would also like to get more "supernatural" companions other than abominations (Wynne and Anders are enough by now). Shale was great and part of her greatness is that she is a golem.

Dragons are quite unexplored and it would be interesting to get us intrigued a bit. Dragons, to our knowledge are animals but seems like very old ones develop something like an intelligence. Exploring that could be interesting.

Dwarfs so far have been quite nice. I loved Sigrun, Oghren could have got a bit deeper and darker (berserker rage is generally portrayed in a comic way when rage of that kind is... scary) and Varric has been a good twist so; what about a dwarf from Kal Sharok?

MOAR COMPANION INTERACTION!
Also, better sex/romance scenes.

I'm a character person. I like watching characters interact.

Regardless of plausibility or popularity, I'd like to see:

-Skill checks in dialogue is only okay if it's still overrided by previous decisions or Hawke's personality.
-More unique quests. Less menial labor.
-More interesting/creepy twists. The serial killer quest is one of my favorites for this reason.
-More fleshed out game world. NPC paths, living world, less map re-use or better masking of the re-use.
-Enemy variation. I love fighting waves, I hate fighting the same enemy over again unless I'm playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam though. At least it makes sense there. Play around though. don't make all fights into waves.
This game's combat isn't quite sexy enough for constant waves.
-No junk. I never sell it anyways, can't be bothered.
-New setting. Don't care about new protagonist, but I want a new place to explore.
-Evolving setting. One affected by your choices. A setting that is it's own entity.
-Equipment editing. Style, mesh, and importantly tint/dye. After playing Vindictus I'd like a less randomized equipment modification ability in my RPGs.
-Inter-class breeds.
-Keep the wheel. T'was cool.
-Voiced protagonist. I'm lovin' it.
-Keep going with the current art direction.
-Fix/Improve the actual character customization and shading while adhering to the new art style. I'm not asking for EVE-style greatness, but that would truly be a Christmas miracle, haha. Still, Fenris has the best skin texture of the lot and I don't even know why. More dynamic lighting would really be a plus.

-Time to iron out the kinks of whatever they decide to actually do.

The soul of the archdemon from the fifth blight inhabiting the body of Morgan's child attracts darkspawn but maybe his warden father's genes keep him from being corrupted he either
a. fights to free himself of the archdemon/old god or
b. becomes the next architect and tries to find a way to end the blights forever
or
c. Leads the sixth blight.

I think that would be a great storyline.

Combat
  • Slow the pace down a little bit, but not as slow as in Origins.
  • Bring back the isometric camera.
  • Finishing moves.
  • No enemies spawning out of nowhere in the middle of combat.
  • Better companion AI.
Customization
  • Facial expressions on character portraits.
  • Voice packs.
  • More unique armor designs.
  • Customization of companion armors.
  • Easier management of companion gear.
Dialogue
  • Get rid of the dialogue wheel. The list of sentences in Origins was a lot better.
Skills
  • Bring back the skills from Origins. Stealing, coercion, crafting etc.
  • Let the skills affect quests and dialogue.
  • Ranged and dual wield trees for warriors.
Environments
  • Don't recycle interiors, or at least don't make as obvious as in Dragon Age 2.
  • More variation.
  • Let your choices have an impact on how places look

I would like a rune that, when socketed, upgrades a piece of equipment to a higher tier. I'm often torn when I had to give up good-looking weapons/armour only because another item has superior stats.

1) To be able to travel by boat or foot to different parts of the game world. Why cant we go to Par Vollen to do qunari related missions then travel back to kirkwall or other cities in the game world. Isabella is a captain of a ship but there is no time when this can be used. Why?
2) No re-used maps and more out of city maps.
3) Let us chose companion armor again.
4) More armor sets like DAO
5) No Junk Items, just get creatures to drop the money instead
6) Keep DA2 Crafting system.
7) Enemy Spawning has to change, the dropping out the sky and randomly appearing is so lame
8) Less blood splatter unless its from a realistic weapon/situation. Stabbing someone in the back doesnt cause an explosion of blood and guts.
9) Dialogue wheel does work well but either this or DAO system works just as well.
10) Duel Wield warriors again
11) The Main characters house idea is good, its good to have a house and family but having each companion stay in their own house is just annoying. Unless you can speak to them anywhere. Travelling somewhere just to have a conversation with someone who is in your party already takes away realism and immersion.
12) Bring back different races and the origins behind them
13) Keep DA2 Combat system

basically DAO with crafting and combat and player house of DA2, with the addition of world travel.

IMHO  for DA3 BioWare should do the following with features from DA2:

Keep:

=>The banter

=>The wondrful in depth companions

=>The automatic gift giving

=>The crafting

=>The more responsive combat

=>The tough choices

=>The amazing NPCs

=>The wonderful politics

=>The great animations

=>The writing desk

=>Having a home

=>The impactful story

Change:

=>Allow friendly fire on more difficulty levels

=>Allow me to right click on a dialogue choice and see the subtitles for the line it leads to. (Sarcastic Hawke was very entertaining but what he said surprised me on a number of occasions. Allowing me to see what I'm going to say, to me, is the difference between playing as sarcastic Hawke and playing as my character)

=>Make the voices for party banter non-directional so I don't have to stop and turn around every time the party speaks

=>Make mages glass cannons, not glass Nerf Guns (Give them the ability to do more damage)

=>Allow the name that I chose to show up in more written messages

=>The name that appears above my head should be the one I chose

=>Allow us to bond with companions earlier in the game (Frontload some of the dialogue)

=>Make armour shoulder pads on a little less bulky. They tend to clip the NPCs face when they turn their heads.

=>Single class combos were fun too (I like slaying the dragon a lot more then setting up Aveline to slay the dragon)

=>Let elves wear shoes.

=>Make opening tutorial scenes skippable, especially if your forcing me to play as not my character

Lose:

=>Forcing me to play as not my character in an opening tutorial scene

=>Body exploding animations

=>School gating (You must have 5 points in this school to take this), Level gating is enough

=>Another wave for each and every fight

=>Every single enemy scaling. It takes my mage 4 hits with a staff to kill a normal creature with a 61 Magic attack at level 20. It took 4 hits with a staff to kill a normal creature at level 5 as well.

=>Random immunities. Sure dragons are immune to fire, but dogs and city guards and Qunari?

Here's my wishlist for the next Dragon Age:

1) "Fixed" Protagonist: Same idea as Hawke, or Commander Shephard.  Hawke has his own unique design and unique voice.  Allow the player to customize the look, if they want, but have a unified vision of who the lead is.

2) Companions and NPCs returning from the old games: They don't have to be playable, but I want to know what the old cast of characters are up to.  I want to hear about the Hero of Fereldan and the Champion.  I want to hear about Starkhaven's new prince, about people arguing over grand stories they've heard from a beardless dwarf, about what the King of Fereldan is doing, etc.

3) New setting:  We've seen all of Ferelden, and we've seen the Free Marches and Kirkwall.  Now let's see some or Orlais or Antiva.  Keep the setting fairly small, like Kirkwall, but keep showing us new parts of the world, bit by bit (instead of like DA:O, where you travelled all over the country and saw everything at once).

4)  Keep the plot heavy on the politics, less on the Blight: The story is far more interesting when it's not, "You are the Chosen One, chosen to save the world from evil!"  Continue what's been set up from DA2: have mages be tentatively free, but with distrust and suspsicion running amok.  Continue with the Seeker's quest to find the Champion.  Have the player always being tugged at to join this leaning or that, this side or that.

5)  Have more involvement from Flemeth and Morrigain.  I was diappointed that nothing came of that in DA2.

6)  Keep the combat as is, but without the waves after waves of enemies.

7)  There should be more main quests, and most sidequests should involve exploring one of your companions.

8)  More dealings with companions.  More banter, more options to talk with them "off duty," more overall developements between you and then. Also, more overall developement in general.  Let's see less extremism (Fenris/Anders) and less one-mindedness (Isabella/Anders) in the companions. I don't want my companions to be talking about the same subjects over, and over, and over again.  Have them reference world events more often, such as actions the hero has taken, things they've heard in town or from main NPCs, recent plot events, etc.

9) More room to wander and explore without widening the scope of travel.  I'd like to have been able to wander around Kirkwall's nearby countryside a little more, but without ever leaving the Free Marches, or without there being any other town or city other Kirkwall.  Have there be more "points of interest" or natural wonders surrounding the primary location.

10) More hard choices. Have the player feel torn about some of the choices they're making.  Make sure choices have ramifications beyond just the immediate.  Have companions continually reference them (or argue over them, even) during travel banter.
