I love Ladyhawke's voice. We need to campaign to have her be the default option if you don't import or choose an alternative ("Hero of Ferelden" in DA2 is the "Default". I know it's not really default. Husssh.).

That is, of course, assuming that you don't reprise the role of Hawke in DA3.

((This post may or may not be sarcastic in sections. Jury is out.))

I actually get really annoyed with male hawke VO because of what was mentioned earlier: if you move around the wheel around (Im playing a neutral/aggressive rogue) the voice changes WAY too much. Like it almost doesn't even sound like the same dude. So it's like my character has multiple personalities or something...

You should try playing a female Shepard sometime, the voice actor is much much better than the male version (you think male HAWKE is bad? But not male Shepard?), it'd be like a whole different experience (I remember it being a whole new mind-numbing, cringe-inducing experience when I attempted to play a man!Shep)

It is a bit sad that in ME and now DA2 the character on the cover is the default male version with the female version never shown and seldom even mentioned in the instruction booklet.

I thought male hawkes voice acting was ace, in fact I vastly prefer it over female hawke (not saying she is bad, she did good, but I think male hawke was a bit better).

His sarcastic lines were always top notch, and I was in stitches quite a few times.

And I don't think male hawke is canon, but they are putting some canon into the story (i.e. companions, fate of the warden, etc etc).

I never ever play female characters, ever.   I could not even imagine a female Commander Shepard, mine is a bad man with a beard.  But anyway I digress..

I tried playing Hawke, and I instantly thought how horrible and bland he was.  His voice acting seemed pretty bad, his relationship with his mother and sister seemed just weird, his "funny" response was ridiculously voiced.

I then tried it as a female, just to make the game more bareable, and honestly I'm falling in love with her.  The voice is spot on, all responses seem to work, the relationship with Bethany seems tighter (they say the same things, but it seems better as a sister-sister relationship).

Honestly it seems to me like it was intended for Hawke to be a female in honesty.  It may just be that I hate the male voice actor, but even the relationships seem better with Hawke as a female.

Anyone else agree?

Your in the same boat as me. For the first time ever I'm thinking of making my main import file a female mage : )

I'm playing an aggressive/to-the-point male Hawke, and I honestly think his voice is excellent for this role. Not sure if I like it better than sarcastic female Hawke, but I'm more than satisfied with the actor's voice work. Suits the iconic male face very well, also.

One of my favorite bits of his: "I gave her a job, Fenris." I only wish the animators had made him glare at Fenris harder.

I don't know what people are talking about saying Fem Hawke's voice is better.

Playing through the Arishok sections the male Hawke's voice had so much more gravitas, and I could believe that he stood as an equal with the Arishok.

I don't doubt Fem Hawke's VA has talent, but she just doesn't match Male Hawke's VA for authority and bearing. Avelline's VA would have been better for Fem Hawke.

Garret Hawke ftw. First time I've thought the preset avatar was better than any player created one, he just embodies the character too well.

Well, I'm not going to say you're *wrong*, exactly.  But I'd like to know where you got your information that the default (not canon, Gaider already capped thsi discussion, there is no "canon") Hawke is a mage, much less what gender.

Nope.avi

Edit: To clarify, I thought whoever voiced Fem-Hawk was pretty terrible. I cringed every time she spoke.:(

For me that happened when I tried to play Fem Sheppard. She always sounded too masculine. That's ok in a way, but it just makes me laugh.

I recognized BroHawke's voice as Vaughan from DA:O, which reminded me of how he threatened to "have you all flayed" -- just before I usually shanked that rapist bigot (after I persuade him to hand over the keys to his loot). So that's a negative right off.

LadyHawke's voice actor also worked on DA:O, but I cannot place it?

I usually jump at the option of getting to play a female heroine in games... but the female voice acting... it's not so much her as the writing of the responses:

- Overly Sappy
- Annoyingly Snarky
- Brutish

None of those characters are appealing to me... I find the male voice actor more tolerable. Maybe we judge the opposite gender less harshly? Or find them better because we don't try to relate to them as much?

Weird though because I loved the voice/character of both paragon and renegade FemShep.

I think that's because Shepard's responses were a good balance between hero and badass. The good was not overbearingly sweet and the bad was more about being tough and getting the job done.

I wish Hawke had been as believable in his/her different personas...

You can always close your eyes and pretend it was Arl Bryland or the Lothering Templar Ser Bryant.
Also, Lady Hawke's voice actor was indeed in Origins. If I recall correctly, it was the nurse at Ostagar?

Hmm, interesting point. That's the word I was looking for in my first post, authority.
I sorta agree that Boulton's Hawke fits more the image of an "older brother taking care of the family after father died/departed".

Just because one has a more talented voice actor doesn't have anything to do with canon. I mean, look at Mass Effect. Femshep blows Manshep out of the damn water (Male Shepard's voice actor really stinks frankly) and all of the publicity still shows Shepard as male.

There is no canon, only default.

As for the voice acting, now that is a complete subjective matter.
They both have their pros and cons but I find it incredibly annoying how some(I said some, not all) hardcore FemShep supporters feel like they have to belittle Mark Meer's performance no matter what and on every possible occasion, to make their point. It's unwarranted.

That naturally carries over to DA with (again) some people yelling "OMG MANHAWKE IS BORING MEER":?

To be fair, I don't share the OP's opinion there. I actually quite like both Hawkes.

The pre-rendered trailer for DA2 shows Hawke as a male mage (a fighty one, but still), much the same way the trailer for DAO shows Warden as a male warrior. You can call it default, you can call it canon, there's very little actual difference between those terms anyway in this context...

pretty much just like canon sheppard is bald male (both of which i like as default due to anything else looking creepy and unfitting of the character)
