Nicholas Boulton, Jo Wyatt. Love them both. Either would be a good canon, but i personally despise all things canon and think they should burn in a pit.

Jo Wyatt is very good at a diplomatic, charming, character.
Nicholas Boulton is very good at a snide, sarcastic, character.

Both have strengths. So when it comes to the VA i'm fairly indifferent, they're both fantastic in their own ways.

However, with character interaction, sibling reactions, odd bits of Gender Specific Dialogue, i think Male Hawke wins out over Fem Hawke for me.

The personality clash between Marian and Carver felt unnatural in comparison to Garrett and Carver. Garrett's relationship with Bethany was also strong as the protective older brother, Marian also had a great relationship with Bethany, but Garrett takes the prize for this one.

I like the Marian/Isabela banter that you get through-out the game, but a lot of the one liners from Garrett are just utterly epic.

When it comes down to the Default Faces, i think they're both pretty awful. Cinematic Garrett from the Destiny Trailer made me believe that he'd possibly be the first default face i'd ever use in an RPG. He didn't look too young, he was rugged, rough around the edges and still fairly handsome.

Alas, the end result didn't live up to the hype and Default Garrett seemed to age 15 years once he hit the game, he also gained a beard with edges so sharp he could cut through the toughest of steel with his chin alone. So i ended up with a custom Male Hawke.

Default Marian on the other hand, is down on the other end of the spectrum, she's young, pretty and fresh faced. I found it difficult to take her seriously, so i ended up with a custom Fem Hawke.

Short Version: My opinion is, both Voice Actors are amazing in their own ways, i prefer Mr.Hawke for companion/sibling interaction, and i dislike both Default Faces. Would rather not have another canon forced down my throat, but either would be good.

Male Hawke being cannon eh maybe, who knows. But Femshep might as well be cannon now.. (Since it has almost reached cult status.)I don't think Femhawke will reach cult status..

There really is no cannon Warden or Hawke, but I agree that female Hawke is better. Not by as wide a margin as in ME, but definitely still better. Its tough to follow somebody as awesome as FemShep, and that may be coloring my outlook on Lady Hawke's voice, but for me FemShep > Lady Hawke > male hawke > maleshep

I think both voice actors did an excellent job; I've played one FemHawke and all the rest M!Hawke's, mainly because I'm a straight female and I like staring at a hot dude in all the cut scenes lol

I don't think there is a canon PC; BW has yet to make anything canon in the DA universe, other than, I guess, Leiliana living.

This right here. Both Nick Boulton and Jo Wyatt are so good it hurts.

RE the canon issue, and responding to an earlier post - the only "canon" PC in any Bioware game is male Revan, which was an imposition by Lucasarts. Shepard and Hawke may well have "iconic" iterations, but they absolutely aren't canon. (Leliana and Anders, I guess, are established as canon. Retcons like that bother me less than setting the protagonist in stone, though.)

Jen Hale is really fantastic as Shepard. I think Mark Meer is a pretty good voice actor, in general (anyone catch him in DA2? He plays Jethann!), as well. I just don't know what happened in Mass Effect. He dials everything so far down that he just sounded tranqed in the first two games. He was more emotive in ME3, but Hale, in comparison, killed in ME3. Might be her best work yet.
