after watching the trailer (the one that plays at the game menu if you leave it long enough) Hawke seems like he has some kind of demonic power on that gauntlet of his right hand, with the fire coming out etc, his eyes going red, and the arms appearing out of nowhere to rip the Qunari in half.. I saw that before I played the game and I assumed that somewhere along the line I would gain those powers or something and.. it just never happened o_O was it just me?
Did anyone else think...

That version of Hawke was a mage, a blood mage from what it looks like.
Also that Trailer was probably one of Varric's exaggerated versions.

The Warden's eyes could glow as well in the trailers. As for the ripping-people-apart, that's a Crushing Prison finisher, thought I only saw it rarely outside of cutscenes.

I didn't think of that.. I suppose it could be varric exaggerating, but that's the trailer that sold me on the game, and I thought that was how it was going to go down 
when I found the lyrium idol in the deep roads for the first time, I thought maybe that had something to do with these special 'powers', but I guess they gave the knight-commander special powers anyway..

Just use crushing prison on someone, in my (so far 2) playthroughs I've seen it rip them apart with hands twice, not including cutscenes or the exaggerated story. One was against a Qunari on the Wounded Coast, if that means anything.
Definitely wish is was a bit more frequent though, or that I knew what the trigger was (or if it was a bug?)
