Which characters do you think are most likely to return in an expansion / sequel / DLC?

Flemeth is a given.
Leilana is a given.
Hawke: Depends on where they want to take the storyline, but I bet Hawke will be around for at least another sequel or two.
Zevran: Possible, but his role in DA2 is pretty small, and some people probably won't even see it.
Cassandra: Seems very likely we will see more of her.
Anders / Justice: Dead or not, I don't think we've seen the last of him. The only other example of a spirit bound to a mage we have is Wynne, who is also dead, but she seems to be getting around just fine anyway.
Fenris: His story isn't particularly well intertwined with the main story, if he returns, I personally doubt it will be in any major capacity.
Merril: See Fenris.
Isabella: She gets around, so I could see her playing another large role further in the story, but who knows?
Varric: Considering he is the narrator of Dragon Age 2, I imagine he will show up again, who knows if he will be playable again.
Aveline: I doubt she will show up much in future installments, personally.
Cullen: I think he's being prepped to be a teammate in the sequel, I imagine he will have a much larger role in future sequels.
Those are the ones I can think of. Thoughts, anyone?

But if DA:O to DA2 is anything to go by, I'm not really expecting that many relevant returning characters, minor cameos notwithstanding.

Brother Genitivi keeps leaving codex entries left, right and center, he might make a cameo at some point, I'm sure he must travel all over the place.

Otherwise, I pretty much agree with the OP. Cassandra looks like she'll be an interesting character; hopefully she's a party member in some capacity in the next game.

Sten doesn't even get a mention in DA2 though, so I am curious if he will show up again. I wonder if they will do anything to make him look different from other Qunari other than his lack of horns, since literally every Qunari looks the same now._Loc_N_lol_ wrote...
The Sten has yet to return, possibly with a promotion.

I actually think I missed the Genitivi entries, unless I just didn't read the codex entries thouroughly enough.
Also, commenting on my first post, I actually HOPE they have Cullen playing a larger role in future installments. He and I were on opposite sides during the mage thing, but the conversations with him regarding Meredith until the end game were interesting, and then him actually helping you fight Meredith was great.

Otherwise I'll settle for a Qunari DLC.

I would like to see one of the Tal'vashoth mercenary as a companion.

I'd love to see of course Leliana, Morriagn, Isabella, Cullen, Fenris,Varric, Flemeth and Ogrehn all play major roles. Maybe Ogrehn only a cameo.

Cullen is the most obvious here to me... he can't be killed, he was a minor NPC in Origins turned slightly more significant NPC in DA2 which gives him ties to both games, and is a skilled templar. I see no reason for him not to come back.
I've got a hunch Charade (Gamlen's daughter) has a chance to return as well.
Of course Stroud seemed to be a pretty important Warden and he alluded to big things going on elsewhere in the world so he could definatly return.
Nathanial is a former companion but I still like his chances of returning as a companion.
I'll join the Bethany/Carver bandwagon for future (full time) companion.
I would of said Grace but she goes crazy by the end of the game.
Anymore notable NPC's I'm forgetting?

Leliana is searching for both the Warden and the Champion. She is also the "left-hand" of the Divine. I don't think it would make sense to put her in such a role and then disappear completely.chronomorped wrote...
How come leliana will be there?

Either way, I hope and pray that Fenris returns because hey, hawks and wolfs are amoung the rare animals in the animal kingdom that mate for life.

People need to start thinking smaller. Who is going to be the Isabela or Merrill of DA3? The minor NPC who turns into a full fledged companion.

I would love for Cullen to reappear in DA3 as a companion. He's such a darling –– though I have to wonder what sort of role he would play.

There I fixed that post for you. :innocent:
Ever since Origins I just wanted to romance that little cutie sooooo badly!

That and he doesn't seem that *bad* and if he is a companion in 3 I think we could change his mind about mage's if we play that road.
I want Varric to be back! he is just made of awesomeness. I'd like to see Beth/Carver back as well (maybe as LI?) if we indeed are not playing as Hawke again.
