It just looks cool and enemy finishers are quite rare I assume. And as others said it was probably like Varric sitting in this chair and showing Hawkes badassness with something like:
And then the Arishok rammed his sword through Hawke's guts but even this didn't stop the Champion from fighting his enemy."

How does he survive multiple duel dagger thrusts into his gut?

The Qunari spear throwers also impale PCs all the time without killing them. Bioware has been doing their hardest to teach us that characters only die in pre-determined cinematic sequences. And that combat has no consequences.

I really wish they would stop with the over the top tongue in cheek gameplay that eats away the power of the story.

Anyway the Arishok is nothing compared to when they let Meredith loose with her anime sword and powers. Are they really making these games for 10 year olds now.

I just noticed this also. My chick mage had like 5 huge spears thru her gut, heart, lungs and 2 in her neck.
I guess I just noticed the Arishok's move because it's 15 seconds like pure Hawke fail as he/she gets owned like a ****.
The same when you try to intimidate Danzig with the knife and he just pushes you off like youre a little punk.

Shepard would have punched him out, and he also never gets impaled.

Shepard > Hawke

I was just impressed that he could lift Hawke, Hawke's plate armor, Hawke's two handed sword, and his own sword up in the air, and hold them there, with just his one arm. That's pretty boss.

The guy dual wields weapons bigger than daggers. It's pretty obvious someone who can disregard limitations of the "distinct classes" can lift whatever he wants.

Even Aveline while she is bench-pressing a cow, probably.

Aveline as she is bench-pressing an endless series of Avelines bench-pressing Avelines!

There's no insta-kill because presumably you are not naked, have some health left, and have some resists. Or maybe his swords are made out of rubber. Or maybe he's toying with you before he eats you.

For what's worth, that move hits a mage for half hp or more.

Then again, most hits do.

It's even more impressive that the sword holds Hawke halfway up it's blade when in reality the Arishok would have Hawke's midsection wrapped around his elbow.
