Windows 7 machine with 6 GB of Ram, Intel i7 quad core, and two NVIDIA GTX 480's. Been playing with occasional lockups, now it gives me this error as soon as I click "play".

[Edit] latest NVIDIA drivers

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

[Edit] On another attempt DA2 launched but gave me a bluescreen at the first splashscreen o.O. I have Adobe PS CS5 - it's been misbehaving as well. I just rebooted and launched Bridge and purged the cache, and then DA 2 launched fine. No idea what's going on...

[Edit] Got to menu. HIt "resume," and bang, bluescreen :/

What're you running it as for DirectX? I'm on a rig without near as much beef as yours, and DirectX 9 has been running the game with good stability. You may need to tweak the nVidia panel, too. I dunno why, but it seems multi-core threading wasn't enabled for DA2 out of the box.

I manually went in, enabled that one feature, and 90% of my problems disappeared.

Hi - thanks.

I installed the version that came packaged with DA2.

FYI, I just uninstalled, reinstalled without the patch, and everything is working so far. Guess I can't patch (?)

And can games cause bluescreens by themselves? I ran ME2 and NWN2 before reinstalling and they launched and worked fine...

....also, this is a custom machine I had built in September. Starting to wonder if two of these video cards can cause excessive heat? The fact that a reinstall got things working is telling me this isn't a hardware issue, at least as far as the video cards are concerned....
