Anyone feeling really ambitious can make a games, especially the Forgotten Realms and Savage Frontier types. (Gold Box games were made by SSI in the early 1990s, they include Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades.)
Gold Box games, now abandonware, were all largely decrypted. I started the process at Ironworks Forum with Secret of the Silver Blades in Dungeon Craft sub - forum. More talented programmers continued it at the FRUA forum, especially the Hacking UA sub - forum:
At the FRUA forum, one of the members has been developing a program, Gold Box Explorer, that allows you to see all the graphics for each Gold Box game. It even shows the text from Ecl files!
