In Origins, it was when you killed the Archdemon and pulled out a giant sword out of thin air.
In this game, there have several instances thus far where my mage pulled out a dagger from nowhere
-if you kill Wesley at the beginning
- if you kill the Magister's son
-in the Blossoming Rose, or whatever that brothel's called, when you meet that blood mage or whoever she was
so this game like Origins, has magi pulling dagger/swords out of thin air

The murder knife? Is it so inconceivable to believe that Hawke keeps a knife or dagger in the folds of his/her robes?
As for Wesley, he brings out the dagger if I remember correctly.

It's a dangerous world, keeping something sharp on hand, even if it's just a little dagger isn't implausible. Hell, you might need it to cut up fruit or meat. Multi-tasking like a mofo.

The sword that killed the Archdemon was actually found on the ground. Not pulled out of thin air.
Wesley provides the knife that kills him.

With all the ****ing darkspawn, templars, and general idiots roaming around, I'm surprised my mage Hawke isn't being carted around by her faithful Mabari steed in full plate armour. I'm sure someone could dig up a mini chariot for her.

All the Hawkes have that knife. It's probably some kind of crazy family heirloom or something. Passed on from generation to generation, thrown at idiots and used to stab friends in the back.
Archer Hawke uses it in close combat. CANON HAWKE IS AN ARCHER, GO.
