Why do you think DA2 is so bad?

My list is currently:
- The dialogue options are bland and poorly written, and have obvious moral choices attached to each. You can't say anything to anyone without it being a major, in-depth conversation. Not realistic.
- Combat is alright, but the animations are terrible and almost always it ends up being a clusterfluff with no real strategy.
- Oh god those graphics. It's 2011 now, guys. Enough said.
What do you guys think?

It has interesting characters, less idle moments and better combat than DA:O, and great graphics.
It's not perfect, but then, which game is(?)

- Same maps over and over again DAO at least changed a little
- Romance options were very awkward as no lead up
- As said above I didnt really think I controlled anything I was just along for the ride
- It was way too dumbed down.
- Ending just stopped. I got closure from DAO ending and most DLCs added on to the closure, but with this ending I didn't get any closure at all!!
I did like the appearances of the DAO characters though and being able to import my DAO game. Finally I'm not mute anymore which I am happy with. Combat is much better seems to flow better than DAO.
As i said I am still a massive fan and I think I always will be. Like the idea of the game too much!!
Thats my 50 cents worth

My beef with this game is the story, characters, and dialog.

Its clear that anybody who didn't like DA:O likes DA2, which leads to the question as to why they were waiting for the the game in the place.

Another problem is that I can't specialize my companions in any one skill. Whereas in Origins I could bring Morrigan along because I liked to hear her commentary, and specialize her to be healing my allies and vexing the opponents, now if I want a healer I *have* to bring Anders. I have no choice. even though I don't care for the character, I'm stuck with him. If I want a tank, I *have* to bring Aveline. I can't even change what weapon set she uses! Normally there isn't much of a problem when a game does this, but when the predecessor allowed you these options, you shouldn't go and remove them in the sequel.
The main city of the game is really quite bland, but this is a problem carried over from Dragon Age Origins. The cities are nigh abandoned, and the few NPCs that you do see running around are brain dead. Why can't I go into every building? Why can't I communicate with any NPC I see? These are things great RPGs in the past have handled well (TES III Morrowind, for example), but Bioware has always ignored. It is very difficult to get immersed in a word when I can't get to know the people who live there.

Hey now! I like Dragon Ball Z and I still think DA2 is terrible.

Its like a beautiful woman. Yes, she's beautiful and gorgoues and you love her. But let's say one day she wears a unflattering outfit. The pants and the outfit make her look shorter and wider than what she is.
In a sense DA2 is very much like this. The woman is beautiful. I can love every aspect of what was trying to be accomplished. However, the woman is wearing an unflattering outfit that doesn't enhance any of her good qualities.
DA2 wasn't a bad game. I really did want to look passed the unflattering outfit and look at its inner beauty. But the outfit it was wearing was just so god awful it was hard to see the inner beauty.

Exactly. Might I suggest a good rethink of your own statement?The_Eejit wrote...

A- I aint into rogues... just aint really no offense.
So that leaves 66% of the game to like. pretty good in my eyes.
But then came the weird sister or brother dying depending on your class... wth does your class has to do with who survives... Like saying Allistair dyes if your a noble.... or morrigan never joins you because your a mage.... the most ridiculous storytelling I have ever seen.
For the rest is pretty fun... and honest DA2 did a wonderful job at allowing me to play a battlemage with my hawke with a spear.... god so awesome... reminds me of my ME1 vanguard.
bad ass who is as likely to blast your face with a shotgun as he is to crush it with his mind.
But that sister brother deal... was a game breaker for me completely. Very dissapointed on bioware because of it.

What if pokemon was no longer about adventure, catching pokemon and dueling, but about the politics behind oil and the history of the auto-mobile? Pokemon would no longer appeal to kids, but to a older crowd. This is what has happened here. Bioware completed changed their target audience.

Oh and if this comes out a double post, blame it on me, I didn't buy the DLC that allows the forum to work correctly.

I like most else about the game, but will probably stop playing DA if they decide to continue down this path.

1. All choices and decisions in The Qunari plot, The Investigation and the Mage crisis lead to one consequence A clear indication that I have zero freedom to shape my own story except to choose one of three dominant personalities: Diplomatic, Sarcastic and Justice. Because this is not my story but Varric's tale, I have zero connection to main character, his companions and the world. The experience is more like watching movie than role playing.AbsenceOfJustice wrote...
Like the title says, why do you think it's so bad?
2. Companions are boring. They wear 2 clothes for 10 years. They talk 3 to 4 times in each Act making their persona, background and influence meaningless. Fenris, Isabela, Merril and Anders suffer personality disorder with their belief system. Inconsistency and over reaction. Probably due to Varric's exaggeration? On the other hand, to my surprise, Varric ( who I despise very much for taking my role as my own storyteller ) is the only companions that is very interesting due to his consistency as being a neutral person, sarcasm and humor. He remain calm, helpful and understanding through out the story.
3. The ending is unsatisfactory. I couldn't explain it because this is non spoiler section. Nevertheless, there is very little motivation for me to follow up the sequel or expansion. The story pretty much the end by the time Cassandra walks away and Leliana closes the storybook. The cliffhanger sense fail to deliver it's impact on me. I have no interest to know what happen to Hawke and the companions. But the mention of The Warden does bring a little nostalgia and sadden me. I always know I am The Warden. But Hawke? He could be my character but BioWare choose to write him as Varric's main character in his tale of the Champion of Kirkwall. Thus, This is not my story. This is Varric tale.

Odd then that you're roleplaying a character in a game then.

I do not.
And don't be silly - you can't tell me my opinions wrong, that's absurd thinking.

- Terrible item system (Lack of armors and weapons in the game. I went through the entire game using only 3 armor sets..)
- Bad character development. AS far as attributes go, every class is restricted into 2 attributes in order to meet armor requirements but in the first 1 one stat was only required, which makes it harder to make a specific build. Example, 2-handed warriors have to get constitution to wear armor where in the first game they did not. Would be nice to pump all the points into str and cunning to make an excellent criti build.
- Redundant quests
- The world lacks a lot of detail. To be stuck in a single city the entire game which is suppose to be very large in population only to see no more than 10 NPCS in a giving area.
- Very bad companion customization options. With all the useless unique armors you find it's a shame you have to NPC them all as soon as you find better since you can't dish it off to one of your teammates who may be able to make good use of it.
- Bad companion interaction. In Origins you can talk to your companions and assess the situation at any time and develop your relationship with them at any time, in DA2 you can only develop your relationship during certain points in the game when quests are given.
- Lack of tactics and strategic elements, no Isometic camera. Iso camera was very useful in Origins because it make targeting enemies much easier, examining more of the battlefield and formulating strategies, ally positions, and targeting the ground/enemies with talents much easier. These elements were omitted for more faced passed combat and action.
- Why did they take out Skills? I for one liked having skills in the first game. Now speech checks are no longer there, or additional perks like tactics, survival, TRAP MAKING, and many others.
That's just a few things.

Yes because Gears of War is so very like Dragon Age with it's stats and abilities and armour and multiple choice dialogue. Just saying :|
