How'd this conversation evolve from Anders being a douche to.....
Rivalry romances being smexier than friendship romances?

Sadly with the high concentration of douches in Kirkwall that's really not a great feat.
I miss my sane Origin characters. Sure you had a couple of douches but most people were sane. D:

Sten: *low growl*
Dog: *small snarl*
Warden: *backs away slowly*
Alternatively:
Sten: *low growl*
Dog: *angry snarl*
Warden: *watches intently*/*eats some popcorn*
Sten: *mighty roar*
Dog: *barking frenzy*
Sten: You are a true warrior, and worthy of respect.

Not going to make that mistake again though.
It's not like Fenris is completely innocent and sweet either, so I refuse to take sides here. Has anyone taken Fenris on Merrill's personal quest in Act 3? At the end when she says, "Why did he have to run from me like I'm some monster?" Fenris responds with, "Because you ARE a monster."
Seriously, she's upset that a clan member has died and he's calling her a monster and blaming her? Jerk. THAT'S like kicking a puppy imo.
Not that Anders is any less of a jerk, but at least Fenris is a jerk too. They can be jerks to each other all they want, but they should both lay off Merrill.

Few of the characters lack for douchebaggery in this game, but Fenris and especially Anders are particularly cruel. For those saying that Merrill isn't that, bad, however, I've got something to say.

Eh, I find it hard to be offended at either of those. The first part, in context, I read more like bitterness that the Keeper seems to like Feynriel more than her. It's not that she probably actually has anything against "half-breeds" more like she needs to cling to something to make her feel better about herself.
I can't comment on the second part because IDK the context but it looks more like, "magic can't actually do that" than "that would be bad".
Either way, she's more like a little kid that doesn't know right from wrong. She's got a lot of wrong beliefs (depending on who you ask I suppose) but she really doesn't understand.
I guess it's just a matter of opinion though.

a response to some out of context pictures
I think Merrill is mostly fine. If I wanted to demonstrate some bad behavior of hers, I'd post pics of you getting rivalry points for refusing to sell some poor kid's soul to a demon. The second pic is from the quest where that dumb Orlesian mage is trying to make it with a waitress. She's not hateful, but ignorance is a bloggable offense on the internet, so she's on probation, at the very least.

She really acts like a teen who think she knows better than everyone.
About Anders and Fenris , yeah Anders is mean and cruel in the "Alone " quest.
But they hate each others from the start , fenris call Anders a abomination ,and tell him it's ok Karl had been made tranquil etc...

These two treat one another like the dirt beneath each others feet. They are both radicials for and against mages.
It's like trying to get Republicans and Democrats to see eye to eye. Sure it happens, but the god damn planets need to be aligned.

The warden 'saves' anders from a very angry templar who believes he's murdered the templars come to get him THIS time. He didn't, the darkspawn got him, but it matters not. The Warden saves him, by putting him in a completely different prison -- The Grey Wardens.
Up until he meets Justice (The fault of your warden/orelsian warden) he was very selfish, a bit like Isabela (and he tells her as much in a banter very early in the game). He just wants to be free to LIVE, and doesn't really give a **** about anyone or anything else. Becoming a warden changes his opinion a bit on helping people, especially because your warden is so BENT on helping people, and the 'good persona' kind of rubs off on him.
He joins with justice, and justice finds all that resentment that anders didn't bother to let himself really feel. He sees what went on in the Ferelden Circle -- mind you the nicest of the bunch and yet STILL terrible things went on there. Knew people like Wynne, who couldn't even keep her child because mages are 'contagious', aren't allowed to have families or be in love. They're torn from their families as children, not allowed to visit or have any contact. All this overloads him and he becomes.. the embodiment of vengeance ;p
Fenris spent what he remembers of his life as a slave to a sick, twisted magister. He knows EXACTLY what weak-willed mages will do to get power. To be powerful, to be respected. He's living, walking, and breathing proof. To him, there are no mages that shouldn't just be drowned when they've discovered their magic, because magic deteriorates the soul. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The Tevinter public are no more free then those who live within the circles, in that they may have the illusion of freedom, but its just an illusion. They are instead slaves to the magic they claim to be able to use freely.
So of course these two would hate each other. The only reason they are even in the same universe is because of Hawk, whom they both love/respect. Otherwise, they'd just kill each other and get it over with. Fenris thinks Anders is a dangerous abominiation waiting to explode, and Anders thinks Fenris is a anti-mage zelot, two toes away from being no better then the templars.
As the world progesses and the years go by, these things in them just get worse, with Anders becomming more Angence, and fenris seeing the rampent crazy blood mages everywhere in kirkwall. ;p
I think the best thing is being a mage romancing Fenris and being friends with him AND anders. Cause Anders is like "WTF, don't love him he hates mages! Love me!" and Fen's all "I
