Lol you are right, its whatever though because its our fault for buying the product day one and not waiting :(. BW cannot catch every single problem with there game, but at least I hope they tried. They already have our money (so there is no rush to fix anything), and more consumers will purchase the game even though many bugs have been confirmed already.

BW had to know this game had bugs and was dumbed down (everything more simplified) before they released it. There is a "talkative man" in the hangman bar that says something like "Everything is becoming more simple, from eating and drinking to combat". The quote is way off but why would BW program a NPC to state something of "meaning", relating to there game.

I just hope there is a patch soon for the bugs that has been confirmed, but if there is no patch anytime soon what can me a random forum poster do ?  Nothing, but I will try to help others. There isnt even a search bar yet on these forums..

I read everything here, but I'm still not convinced. I played through the entire game with Isabella in my party right after I got her. I never received this bug once. I checked multiple times to make sure during my gameplay too. By the time I finished my playthrough, I had saved about 900 times. Obviously, I did not load up from every one of those saves, but I did do a lot of loads especially from respeccing.

I find it really hard to believe I was lucky. I feel like there is something else that causes it. I'm not saying what you found isn't true. I was thinking maybe Isabella works perfectly fine up to a certain event that initiates the bug then from there on it will keep happening. I don't know it's just weird.

The process that you did is the only way not to recieve a speed penalty after you started the "condition". When you reload a save with her in your party you will recieve the 5% attack speed bonus from thumbs up. When you take her out of the party the bonus you received will be subtracted from hawkes stats.

If you would now save in any area of the game with isabella NOT in you're party and reload that save, the game will "show" the "thumbs up" sign in hawk's ability screen but will "not" add a 5% percent bonus to his attack speed in the stats. The next time you switch out you're party (merrills house, fenris manison etc) the game will fix itself and remove the isabella's "thumbs up" from hawks ability screen. In doing so hawks stats will recieve a -5 attack speed penalty. This will happen every time you load a save without her in the party after you "start" the bug.

What about if you turn off Auto Save?

I thought I could avoid thumbs up by never adding Isabella to the party, but it doesn't help.

I never added her, not even once.

After the end of Act 2, her image is blocked like Bethany's, but by accepting the duel with Arishok, it some how put me into Friendship mode with her (+15 friendship) and then the "Thumbs Up" ability appeared on my abilities screen.

I'm not sure if this means I will get the bug or not, but I certainly won't be adding or removing her from the party at this point.

I also turned off Auto-Save, just in case.

Hey, look on the bright side. Yeah, DA2 has it's bugs, when compared to the industry's poor, current standards this is pracitcally a flawless release. You can for instance do such crazy things as start the game without it crashing your computer and setting it on fire.

I was there when Empire Total War and Elemental hit the shelves. Dear Ao, I still have nightmares about those releases...

Posted this in another topic, thought the post below might be helpful to others trying* to get her friendship bonus since we know how to avoid the bug. Sorry for the grammar kind of sleepy. -_-

This is what I remember from act 1 off the top of my head for isabella's friendship.

The the quest you get from her regarding her contact choose all paragon choices. 10 friendship
Accept the contacts quest. 5 friendship
Complete the contacts quest and in the dialogue agree to give him the location of the cargo. 10-15 friendship points.

There is a gentleman in hightown that wife is missing, that isabella does not like. If you do not accept his quest you will recieve 10 friendship points and still be able to complete the quest.

The quest where the magistrate wants you to rescue his son. If you kill the son in the dungon you will recieve 15 friendship points.

Blackpowder courtesy---you help adwarf during an ambush in which he also needs your help to kill the rogue quanri (Tal vasha or something). Agree to help him to recieve 5 freindship points

Act of Mercy Quest--If you take varric with you to trick the templars (choose the middle option when talking to the apostate grace) you will recieve 10 friendship points.

The wayward son---If you take varric with you and trick the slaver you will recieve 5 friendship points.

After the bone pit you are asked to make the workers get back to work. Choose the renegade option to recieve 5 friendship points.

This should Will be enough to get isabella to frienship status in act 1.

To answer you're other question...If you keep isabella out of you're party the whole game you will not recieve this bug.

Ohh just remebered lol, If you chose the default setting (the hero of feralden or something) at the beggining of the game you will find a dalish woman arguing with a human on the main path of the wounded coast. If you choose the Renegade option you will recieve 5 friendship points.

Considering that friendship causes the problem, I'm surprised there isn't a listing of how to get her rivalry up quickly.

Hey guys, just came on here to say thanks to BloodyRaw ( Bloody ROAR was an awesome game on the PSX btw xD) and that I found a work around for the XBOX 360 which is similar to the pyGFFp one for the PC. At first I originally tried extracting the .das file from my XBOX 360's save package and using pyGFFp as the file type is exactly the same as the PC version but it doesn't reisgn the save file properly and you get corrupt saves BUT I did find a save game editor on the se7ensins called " The First Blight Tool" which basically works the same as the pyGFFp but for XBOX 360. I followed the steps by BloodyRaw which proved to be true and made a fresh save where the bug WASN'T active anymore and then used the tool to reset my animation speed back to default settings of "0" and then resign and rehashed the file using 360Revolution and my animation speed was restored back to normal, the only problem being I can't ever use Isabela again or the bug returns :(

This was actually my first BIOWARE game I bought on consoles as my PC blew up and I must say I don't think I will buy one on consoles again xD.

Hope this helps!

Sorry, this is not the answer I needed  I would need the correct name of the label when I have opened the savegame. With the correct name (SAVEGAME_*_*) I could search for it in the savegame.

Hmm still a bit confused as to what you mean, could you tell us maybe what you're doing so far so we know what part of the process you are in or to see if you're doing something wrong?

Wow man amazing work, you should really make a topic about this. I'm on the ps3 the solution probably won't work for me, but you still finding a solution for consoles is beyond amazing. :D

I have not made it to the duel yet on my mage (no glitch) play through but I think I still can help you.

If Isabella is ever forced out of you're party with "friendship" status "thumbs up" will still show in you're abilites screen (arishock, her leaving with the relic, going to hawkes estate with her currently in the party). If you do not save/reload while "thumbs up" is showing you should be ok (waiting until she renters the party, then switching her out).

The game still "has" her in you're party when she really is not...if you understand what I'm saying lol :D. Its the same thing as going through a mission without save/reloading (whilst inside it) to avoid starting the "bug". The problem always occur's with "Loading". Free Ability points from respec's, unwanted pregnancies :innocent:, sebastion/isabella all work the same way.

I found a little problem using " The Last Blight " tool to reset animation speed and that was after editing and resigning the save game when you load your save up you will have the Thumbs Up ability again even if the save you made doesn't have Isabela in your party or the Thumbs Up ability active, I don't know if this applies if you haven't got Isabela to friendship status though.

Regardless if you use a save game where you are in an area where you can change party members, ( I'd recomend saving in Merils house) make sure you have Isabela in your party and then save, use that save to edit your animation speed back to normal and then resign/rehash and load it up, once you've loaded it up you should still have the Thumbs Up ability  but if you use the near by Change Party Member thingy you can swap her out for someone else and remove the ability permanently and save where ever you like so long as you never put Isabela back in your party. You HAVE to change party member in the area you've loaded your save as moving to different area's and saving with her in your party adds one stack of -5 speed to Hawke!

I was looking for this one: ANIMATION_SPEED_MODIFIER

I down loaded gff4editor-0.5.2b.7z. Used daosavegame to inspect my Hawke. I see that at level 7 he gets Animation_Speed_Modifier with a modifier of 3. Prior to that he doesn't have it. At level 12 I have a 3. At level 13 I have a -2. By the end of the game I have a -18.

I suspect that the Modifier parameter of Animation_Speed_Modifier is supposed to be 0 unless you have an item or feat that gives a speed bonus. My rogue has Arm of Adruil at level 7 which gives +3% attack speed.

If you leave her in you're party the entire game then you have nothing to worry about.

No problems at all with Isabella, problems with ability points yes lol

Just wondering, when i take her out of my party manually, the Thumbs Up ability is gone. Does this mean i can save and load as i please without her in the party and without the 5% being taken off?

If you already have the "thumbs up bug" (loading saved game w/o her in party but still have thumbs up in the ability screen) then taking her out of you're party will not do anything for you. You will still lose -5 speed per reload unless you load with her in you're party.

If you do not have her in you're party and you have not triggered the bug, the you are safe to save/load as much as you please with no penalty without her in you're party.

Sorry in advance for being so dense but after reading this whole thread I still don't understand how the bug is started in the first place. Is it caused by saving a game where thumbs up is present on Hawke's ability screen and Isabela is not in the party, and then reloading that save? But you won't get the bug if you save with Isabela in your group or as long as thumbs up is not present without her there; and only in those designated areas?
