Just thought I'd post this here right quick, not sure if it's the right place or anything. In DAO there were several issues with the tactics failing and producing situations where your toons would just stand still and do nothing. Almost all of these problems were removed in DA2, but there's one that I recently found that still remains:

On Nightmare, my preferred option would be to play with tactics off but behaviour set to "Ranged" on mages and Varric for instance. Problem is, when you put the party on HOLD (which is vital to prevent them from running into AoE's or aggroing mobs etc), they get completely stuck if a mob gets too close. The reason is obvious: the running away has greater priority than attacking, but because the party is forced to hold still, they can never get the distance to allow for an attack. So instead, they don't move AND don't attack, just stand there and do nothing at all.

Obviously this must be an oversight, I hope it'll get patched. Using Default behaviour gets extremely encumbersome as then you have to hand-hold them through every last action as they have zero sense of survivability. Anyway it's illogical that since the AI must know it's forbidden to move, then the only remaining option is to attack while standing still.
