Other than being a blood mage, I never understood the "smear my blood across my nose" part. What is the significance of that and why is it on one of the default Hawkes?

I don't think it's actually blood. First of all, blood would oxidize in air and turn brown after just a few hours. Second, unless Hawke never washes his face, that blood trail should not stay there for years and years... It's not a frigging tattoo...

its Magical blood

So you agree he's a blood mage then? And the staff isn't broken, at the end Hawke picks it back up and does the glowing-eye-while-walking-in-place-with-burning-hand thing...

i concur i believe the Cut on his arm was inflicted sometime during the battle and he uses it watch the first ogre you kill as a mage he uses the same spell except its blue and black like normal magic

Speaking of which, where can I get that staff, and what kind of stats does it have?

At the climax of the battle against the Arishok, Hawke actually invokes blood magic, and recalls the events leading up to that point. We see Isabella turning away from Hawke... Both of these things are unexpected. If the trailer is considered canon, then it would signify that Hawke eventually sided the mages as a blood mage and possibly betrayed Isabella...

What do you guys think?

Seemed to me to indicate that Isabella left Hawke rather than him betraying her and he choose the one-on-one duel option. Also it's confirmed that the trailer Hawke is a blood mage and is using blood magic for the hands thing. The devs actually said the hand thing would be a finisher in the game for mages, but alas it was not so, I think it was cut out or something.

Anyway the trailer is made by Blur for Bioware, I wouldn't take too much of it into consideration.

Hawke, a blood mage? How scandalous! Do the NPCs respond differently if you actually made Hawke a BM?

Not canon, you don't see Hawke kiting the Arishok for 5 minutes and squeeling like a little girl everytime he gets close.

I'm almost level 23 and am still using the Staff of Parthalan. :D I've seen many upgrades for it but I just enjoy using it much more. Playing on Normal really allows me to use it all the time, too. It's my favourite staff in terms of how it looks
