I know this may be obvious but I cant figure it out -  how do you disable the damn party always following 1 selected character. Im currenlty trying to fight ancient rock wraith and to say ai is stupid is an understatment.
I position my ranged as far as possible, try to control my dw Hawke so she wouldnt die instantly and when I check again my entire party group up. I have Anders and Varrick set up as ranged on tactics and myself and Fenris on aggresive but cant find any way to stop this stupid following around

When the ground turns red if my group is split they try to run towards each other taking insane damage and I am sure there will be fight sahead where this ai setup will presnet far more frustration than challenge

I just want to split my party so they stay without them moving to the spot of the current character I'm controlling

You can press H to toggle the hold position function.

And it pays to bind that key to something a lot closer. Because especially in harder fights (or in the case of Nightmare, in almost *every* fight), you're gonna be spamming that key a lot. The AI is problematic to be sure. Personally I'd love for a functionality where you can hand-pick which toon is forced to HOLD, and which one can move freely as per their AI behaviour profile.

As it is, every time you use HOLD, your party will turn into a bunch of idiots who have to be hand held through every little most obvious action. Your melees will be utterly useless with that on since a simple small knockback or an enemy stepping one step back means the toon will just stand there like an idiot. But on the other hand, if you have HOLD off, your ranged toons will constantly run into adds and traps and friendly fire while trying to keep at range. If you switch ranged behaviour to default, then you'll have to hand-hold them through every single step of the way to NOT stand still every random AoE or mob that's about to perma-knockdown them, or when your warrior has to run in with a 2h to protect them. And then again if you put ranged behaviour on and use HOLD to sometimes force them to move when needed and otherwise rely on their AI to try and get the best of both worlds, you'll find the nice little bug where a ranged AI that's on hold and in close proximity to an enemy, will just shut down completely and not do anything at all.

I'm not sure if any of that even made any sense... oh well, going back to the game now.
