I can change it to fullscreen from inside the game, but I have to do this literally every time I launch the game.

I've tested this since and this does indeed seem to be the cause of the problem. If after clicking play you tab to another window, or hit the windows start button or do anything else that may cause the DA2 game starting up to lose focus before it's gone from the splash screen to the full game window, it will start up in windowed mode and it'll stay that way until you retick the setting for fullscreen.
Whether or not it's intentional design is hard to say - personally I think the game should just grab focus and bring itself to the front in fullscreen when it's ready to start, regardless fo whether you're looking at another window or not - however it's easy enough to work around this by just waiting patiently for the few seconds while the game starts up and just not tab to other windows.

DA 1.01 (CD version from Play.com), Vista 64 (thought I was running a service pack but now can't see it), nVidia 8800 GTS 512 w/latest drivers (266.58), using AVG Internet Security, DX11
Wierd, Bioware games are usually less broken than this at release, I can't remember the last time I had to spend an hour fixing a Bioware game to get it to work a week after release. Rushed this one a bit have we?

I've got this issue as well (100% occurrence). Does appear to be some odd issue with the game losing focus, but I'm not tabbing away to anything else - there are no other applications running in the foreground. Figured it might be my antivirus doing something, but disabling that had no effect.

Did you play Awakening? That one was broken as hell on release and Origins was really buggy and they spent a good couple of years on that one.

In all fairness my graphics drivers were fairly out of date when it was just failing to run. They're not now, I can live with residual windowing-wierdness in view of the fact that others can't run it at all, it seems. Still a little annoying.

That makes sense. I usually launch DA2 from the Games Explorer (in principle I hate the Games Explorer, but for games that use it it is convenient), so that's a window I need to make go away after the launcher appears. Maybe if I launched from an icon (I don't keep icons on my desktop - I like menus) this wouldn't happen.Miriel Amarinth wrote...
I have this as well and it did indeed seem to happen at random. However a few days ago I saw someone mention here on the boards that they thought it was related to the DA2 splash screen having focus or not at the moment that the game launches.

I don't think so. Origins worked flawlessly for me. BioWare games usually do.VoxDeus wrote...
Yup, played both, don't remember them being broken enough on release to prevent me playing. May just be rose-tinted spectacles I guess - once the problems got fixed I probably forgot about them.

I do keep icons on the desktop. It doesn't help.
