The story ends so abruptly and while i don't really mind the ending myself i'm left wondering, what the hell happened to Hawke's companions?

I realize it would've taken too long for Varric to talk about each party member but why can't we get a few quick slides after the "It's in the Maker's hands..." scene?  You watch all of these characters evolve over the 7 year time frame and you get attached to them so it'd be nice to learn what became of them after they left you.

Who's with me?!  This shouldn't be a difficult thing to patch in, they could simply add new codex pages with the Post-Campaign save.

IMHO there isn't a need for one. The point of the epilogues were always to show that your actions have consequences that stretch into the longish term, but Bioware did that by making the game itself extend over 7 years.

The point of the ending was also supposed to be that we simply don't know what happened to Hawke (and to the Warden) - hence the reason the seekers are questioning Varric in the first place. It was *supposed* to end with a cliffhanger.

And to add... I think that the story of DA2 closed itself off very nicely as a framed narrative and that there is really no need for more explanation and such. I loved the fact that the seekers are totally clueless about Hawke's location and whether Varric is telling the truth, because it shows that Hawke's story - and indeed any other story in the DA universe - is embedded within other stories: it showed that there will always be *more* stories to explore in the huge world that is Thedas.

I don't want to play as a new hero every game :?

That's true but there are still some things that could have more closure. Like where does Isabella go after you help acquire her new ship?

A lot of people here are pretty upset about the cliffhanger ending and an epilogue would probebly appease them greatly. I don't mind if Hawke's own fate remains a mystery, i just wanna know what happened to his/her companions.

There will be an epilogue. It'll be called Dragon Age III.

DA2 doesn't need an epilogue, as it just doesn't make sense with its narration. Varric tells the story to us, and everyone parted ways after the ending. How is he supposed to know what happened to them?

There will be no epilogue, as I can pretty much guarantee there'll be an xpack/DLC down the line to continue the story after the beginning of the civil war. Notice how that occurs in year seven while during the develop the game was continually referenced as taking place over "ten years" or a "decade"; I find it hard to believe that they're really counting Varric relating the tale to Cassandra as meaning it takes place over a decade. Moreover, they seem to be setting up a DA3 in which Hawke and the Warden come back.

In any event, an epilogue would be too messy and premature, and would no doubt cause lots of rage down the road as the events of new installments inevitably contradict some details from said epilogue that people took as gospel and crafted elaborate personal fantasies around (see Awakening).

Better to have no epilogues then to have them but retcon them away.
