Mages aren't supposed to play solo, especially in
Dragon Age Universe, oh I mean especially in Bioware's game. Bioware are known
for how they create such characters that can interact with their companion and
all (Baldur's Gate, Star Wars KOTOR, DAO, DAII, ME, ME2 etc.) and this is why
Bioware is so unique B)

I'm not going to lie, it's tempting to treat
Bioware's game as such any other RPG like Elder Scroll with Solo Mages and
roaming around the city with spells..but sadly it's not Elder Scroll, so play
how you suppose to play, complaint how you suppose to complaint

And Adepts from ME2?  Now that is how I wish mages were handled in DA2.

Oh c'mon:? Adepts aren't Mages..maybe we treat them as 'Mages' in Mass Effect. It's just a different game you know:huh: sometimes you just can't compare them. Right? :o

You do realize that the pause mechanic is there because of the limitations of the control interface. The mage is an intellectual and by that alone will never be your necessary "visceral," thus your premise was already flawed before you had post it here.

pull of the void, grav, blood slave grunt#1, walking bomb grunt#2, +any quick aoe, chain, fireball, wg if the grouping is tight. You discount grav too much, it works on anything.

That being said, Origins was much easier overall with any class, you can not use the mages from one combat mechanically different system and compare them to another. Note the differences, highlight whats missing, but the combat in the two share no base. Origins did not share the same attribute system. Mages have recieved a nerf, if you consider the addition of the fortitude mechanic as such. Making your solo comparison test akin to apples, oranges, and onions.
I could go on and on about you having a lack of information concerning several reinforcement arguments you have attempted to use, such as blood mage gear, the need for high willpower, the lack of controll, grav, but its easier to simply laugh at you.
It would help your little crusade if you made a visceral attempt at not being a colossal douche bag to everyone from the start. You attract more flies with honey, but bs works if its all you have to work with.

Do you have to troll forums for that?  Isn't there a bar or club you can go to?

WRONG.

ENJOY.

You do realize the reason he was able to use no healing in the first video was because of Merrill and Anders, right? They're pretty much constantly CC'ing, debuffing, and using cross-class combos.

The second video has Merrills.. and Anders... and healing. Interesting choice of videos to prove you mages are bad and that you don't need healing on NM.

My point was to show how the PLAYER CHARACTER plays.  Not NPC support.  It's about the MAIN CHARACTER and the class disparity that becomes all too apparent when compared with videos such as these.

"Hey guyz, my Mage isn't running around with a two-handed weapon and killing things in melee, nor jumping around the screen, ergo it's the sucks!"

Sorry, their damage sucks on Nightmare.

Why does it seem like you only post to complain about how awful Mages are, without actually playing one?  Does their single target damage suck? Yes (unless a stagger happens). Do they beat the other two classes for mass carnage? Yes.  Does a single Mage add more to a group than any of the other classes?  Yes.

Stop crying because the classes are actually close to balanced this time around and you can't kill everything as fast as you could by yourself with almost no downside like you could in Origins.  Mages were beyond stupid in Origins.  If I didn't need Varric for the story or unlocking, I would always take Merril in his place and run a three mage team.

My mage is on Nightmare and is level 20. I can tell you for a fact that his damage sucks and he has something like 56 Magic.

You do realize that having more than 42 Magic is mostly meaningless right?  The scaling of spells from just Magic alone is terrible and the majority of your damage comes from your staves and element bonuses.  Does it even matter that they don't have an Assassinate ability?  If you can debilitate pretty much anything and win a war of attrition easily, you aren't any weaker than either of the other two classes.  It seems like you just want instant gratification and don't want to put any effort into your class, therefore they are "Weak".

Not debating the point, but I'm curious if you have any good links to details about how spells and abilities scale. I'd like to read up on them to know how to optimally distribute points for any new chars and my companions, if you do.

The other 90% of you won't make it past level 6.

level 6 should be quite easy. You only need to do the Birthright and Long way home quest where you have forced ally, and if you get enough codex EP you should get there long before the big fight just before Flemeth appears.

A mage can SO defend it-self. my Primal Mage took down the damn Arishok.. mind you I ran around a lot and used proper Control.. and my puppy.

You could do this easily I'm sure. I'd do it, but I'm much too lazy to actually have to work while playing a video game.

I don't think Mages are weaker or less effective than the other classes. I really don't know what my Party would do without Anders.

Can Anders Solo? No.
Can he help my party win by supporting it with spells? Yes.

I don't really think it's fair to compare the classes in a "Who-can-solo?" way...

Reminds me ..

No, My Fighter/Thief is more powerful than your Sorcerer because before you will cast Project Image and Time Stop I will dispel it with my Detect Illusion and chop you to pieces .. someone needs a lucky roll here ;)

But seriously, let's define "gimp", how to measure class strength respectively, then have some numbers back it up, then draw conclusions. What we talk about here and now is how Mage .. feels.

I wouldn't say they are gimp. Gimp would be a warrior who wants to do more than autoattack. That is scary bad. Mages may not be damage gods, but they are certainly very good to have in a group. Great for locking down larger groups of enemies.

Also? Blood Mages! It's the new buzzword! You can't be tied to a buzzword and suck!

Think of it this way, when u r against a group of qunari, say a dozen or so, there is one mage, which would you like to get rid of first the warriors or the mage... funny how mages r nothing when solo but become the most threatening presence on the field when properly supported, eh? And on that note I don't think it's valid to test battle aptitude on casual difficulty. =.=

And yes, end of topic agreed.

You are right that Mage is the weakest class in the game and least capable of soloing. But end game Mage becomes powerful enough to kill large mobs solo.

Pull of the Abyss => Gravitic Ring => Tempest => Maker's Hammer => Deep Freeze => Paralyzing Hemorrhage => Chain Lightning. I'd like to see a Warrior/Rogue do this.

Why are you lying about me? Check out the link in my sig. That is my level 20 mage, fanboi. You don't have to lie about everyone who says the game is not perfect and could use some balancing. Get a grip and stop lying about me.

Oh, I've also made a ot of posts that are not complaining about mages so you are lying about that too. Nice smear tactics you have going on there.

Oh, if the classes are close to being balanced put up or shut up. Post vidoes of a mage owning Nightmare like a well built warrior does.

You do realize that having more than 42 Magic is mostly meaningless right?  The scaling of spells from just Magic alone is terrible and the majority of your damage comes from your staves and element bonuses.

Not, that is not true. As you increase your magic your spell damage goes up as does the damage from staff attacks. Learn to play.

Does it even matter that they don't have an Assassinate ability?  If you can debilitate pretty much anything and win a war of attrition easily, you aren't any weaker than either of the other two classes.  It seems like you just want instant gratification and don't want to put any effort into your class, therefore they are "Weak".

No, I want a mage that is as powerful as a warrior or a rouge is. The mage is currently underpowered. And no, you can't keep everything locked down.

Again, show me videos of a mage owning tough fights in Nightmare. Thanks. :wizard:

tempest cast time makes it weak when compared to other spells, lightning also breaks grav's hold
