Actually you don't need the Bioware texture mod for it to work.

Speaking of which, if I have a card that doesn't do DX11, is there any point to installing the hi res textures from Bioware? Any benefit?

Does this work for everyone, or just DX11 cards?

OLD

NEW

Lost quite a bit of detail by resizing the images (oh well), but we can clearly see the difference on the cement tiles.

I currently have Biowares Hi-Res texture mod installed, is this compatible with it, and does it make anything better than Biowares version?
It shouldn't be a problem, anyway you only place a new folder in your overide directory (it doesn't change any files), if the mod creates any problems for you, just delete it, simple as that.

And does this do every location in the game or just Kirkwall?

Frankly, why Bioware didn't do this in the first place is beyond me.

I thought these specs would have been good enough for highest Settings, but they weren't xD
EVGA GTX 560 1GB card
Intel i7 930 Quad Core 2.8GHz
6GB Kingston DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Motherboard

Yeah the game looks brilliant now, just wish I could play on Very High, or Ultra High whatever it's called. Must need some sort of super computer xD

I don't want to diss on Bioware but it's really their engine that's to blame for it's lack of optimization. You can easily play much higher detailed games than DA2 with better frame rates. Heck there's games that have higher detailed environments than DA2 that doesn't require a 1 gig of Ram video card. In a way, it's sad that you have to rely on Mods to do a better job than the company did itself in so many ways. I guess that's why there's no toolset for DA2, Bioware/EA are sick & tired of casual people making Mods that makes huge improvements in their games which keeps making them look bad, lol.

Metro 2033, Shogun 2, Civilization 5, Starcraft II, Crysis, Crysis 2....all run better at max settings. And all are better in terms of visuals...though Civ 5 not sure if it needs a monster GPU

There is no toolset simply becuase they haven't taken the time to update the existing one that the DAO community has to work with DA2. DAO PC went gold in early 2009, but wasn't released until the console ports were done in October; while Bioware was waiting for the third-party that did the ports to complete them, they worked on the toolset for us. We simply need to be patient.

I guess that's just something Bioware needs to improve on. There are very few companies that can make stories as good as Bioware does though, and I guess that's the main reason I enjoy Bioware games so much. This game has many, many flaws, but I still love it.
