Hi, I recently started a new rogue playthrough and was wondering what specs to choose, I was thinking assassin and Duelist for the attack/defence bonus.
Is shadow worth considering? Im not really a stealth person..
Can anyone guide me please?

Thanks in advance... :)Posted Image

It kind of depends what difficulty you're playing on and if you're doing dual-weapon or archery. I haven't really played an archery rogue much, so this advice is mainly for DW.

Assassin: I'd pretty much always pick this. The damage and stamina regen is too good to pass up.

Duelist: On Casual/Normal difficulties the defense bonus can be nice and allow you to off-tank some. Vendetta is nice damage too, and can be use in a cross-class combo with Stagger (which is easy to apply from a warrior).

Shadow: This will increase your crit damage and survivability, due to Inconspicuous (and Decoy, if you take it). On Hard/Nightmare, I'd recommend this over Duelist because a dead rogue does no damage, and the defense bonuses from Duelist don't work against special attacks (which will hit hard on Nightmare).

Im playing on hard and have chosen Assassin already, im at level 9.
Since im on hard, would you suggest duelist or shadow?

I just finished the game on hard and I maxed out the duelist tree and got Assassinate in the Assassin tree.

Hawke would basically just one shot regular npc's with a backstab or Vendetta and could pretty much off-tank any boss for a little bit (I'd often have him solo Temple Hunters or Lieutenants while Aveline whacked on the main boss). The passive skills in the duelist tree allow you to put out massive damage without taking any significant damage. Add to that the ability to "Throw the Gauntlet" and pull npc's off your healer and it was pretty insane.

Sure, you don't get a lot of nice graphics or anything but my boss attack was at 90% and my normal npc attack was at 100% (passive abilities, pumped dex for weapons). Add to that the -50% defense from Cutting Barbs and the -25% damage resistance from Mark of Death and bosses were a simple tank n spank once the trash was cleared.

Keep in mind I'd have to use either Bethany or Merrill for massive AoE damage and used Anders/Bethany's Glyphs to keep **** away from mages so it wasn't exactly easy but my character was like a one man wrecking machine killing mob after mob then "On to the next one..."

As a DW on Nightmare; I would absolutely prioritise Shadow over Assassin; also invest in Subterfuge which synergises with Shadow...
