If I'm not mistaken if you talk to Hubert you can be part or half owner of the Bone Pit if you have the owners get back to work. I think, again if I'm not mistaken, you can get some money up front.  But what about future profits?

A quest for the Bone Pit in Act 2, I can't remember if anything drops good or how much the reward for doing it is. Also  the merchant shows back up in the market area in hightown

I saw no returns AND 15 gold for pick axes. It'd be cheaper if they used magic swords, especially as I have around 15 of them at any one time.

Yeah but you have to kill the High Dragon in an epic battle that takes forever and costs you a ton in potions. The Bone Pit is just another way the game shows you how little effect you have on it. You OWN A MINE! You invest a lot of time and money into it and get a NEGATIVE RETURN on it for 7 YEARS.

I just assumed (desperately trying to roleplay through it) that between the return of the mine and the expenses of keeping up an estate, food for the family, and stuff for seven years, it somewhat evens out.

ya this game was more brutal for money gathering than WOW vanilla was! lol, I ran around all the coasts etc tryign to find a mob to kill for cash, since I accidentally bought a book physical technique , not realizing i should not have tried to BUY anything before deep roads or I would not have cash to go thru.
and OMG dont get me started on how u kill that rock wraith and all those pots etc, and three of the four reward chests have garbage like fell residue or torn trousers.... WHAT>??!
another aspect of a blah game.

I think the fact that we have to desperately try to put the RP in RPG indicates the problem. :-)

In an RP sense it was a little weird that your character is rich yet cash poor. However, the fact that money matters in the game was a nice change. In most RPGs there's a tipping, and usually pretty early on, where money is in such abundance relative to what is available to purchase that it is worthless.

Upon completion of the there were still dozens of items that I would have like to have bought but did not have the money for.

Having so many *expensive* items and nowhere enough funds to purchase the majority of them is also silly, IMO.

As others have said, you can pretty much do every sidequest, gut every mob and whatnot and you will still *not* have enough money to purchase even half of the high-end super-goodies.

I'm crossing my fingers that, somewhere in the game, there's a money exploit or, at the very least, a lucrative side mission or two that I missed on my first playthrough.

If you're hoping for an exploit to give you the money you would like, why not use the dev console instead and give yourself all the gold you could dream of?

No, no it isn't. It's smart. It makes one think about their purchases.

I totally agree.  Some consequence in decision is nice to have.  Not being able to have things makes the things you have worth more.  It's refreshing to have to be able to actually make some choices.

You mean the mine that is overrun by dragons twice? The mine that, simply because he owned it, ruined Hubert? That mine?

If it were me and someone asked me to invest in a mine nicknamed the Bone Pit, I would probably be a little hesitant.

On a side note, I thought the Bone Pit dialogue and quest chain were hilarious in a morbid sense.

Actually you do get some cash from your partner, after you get the workers back to work. Come back to see Hubert and he will give you some cash.

That's true but money is far, far eaiser to come by in DA2 than DAO.  There were way more stupidly expensive items in DAO.  To the point that you'd be lucky to buy 2-3 in a play through.  That's always something that annoyed me in DAO.  The best gear hade to be bought.  In DA2 you quest for it mostly.  That, to me, makes a whole lot more sense than the quartermaster at the Circle selling me the most powerful 100GP mage's staff ever.  I mean, how the hell does he have that staff?  He's just a dude behind a cart yet he has one of the most powerful artifacts in Thedas up for sale?

Oh, ******. Is that all that comes of it?  I was hoping I'd get a little bonus gold every-so-often or something.

Well I got gold from Hubert, and I never put anything in(when were you able to buy better picks?). Hubert ends up the worst off, he loses everything, because he reinvests it in the mind. I assumed it operated like a stock, besides the minor funds he paid you, most of it was reinvested, with the hope of larger future dividends. Or it could be like the Deep Roads expeditions, where the player supposedly gets rich off of it and spends it on restoring the estate. The main bonus from doing Hubert's quest is the shot at Champion gear, though he does give the player some cash.
