Problem:
Dragon Age 2 begins to stutter in both audio and video after 1 to 10 minutes of gameplay. This problem only occured after the 1.01 patch was deployed. Previously the game played fine, without any of the following tweaking.
FPS is stable and high prior to the stuttering occuring.
Things I've done:
Updated to 267.59 beta drivers. Updated audio/chipset drivers.
Edited Dragonage2.ini forcing the following settings: triple buffering and trilinar filtering
System Specifications:
HP dv7-3085dx notebook
Windows 7 64
i7 processor 720qm
6 GB DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M 1024 MB
Audio IDT HD audio codec
[Steam] Dragon Age 2 Audio/Video stutter after 1.01

Interestingly now the problem is also manifesting in Mass Effect 2.

Same for me, game ran perfectly. Now after the patch I'm having the same issues.

I had to play the last hour of the game in this state, was not happy but powered through. I'm finding myself hesitating on my second play through...
The only change I made between buttery smooth and stuttering was patch 1.01. Do we know of any easy way to downgrade?

I had a quick peruse over the internets, and although I have not found a concrete solution as of yet, there seems to be A LOT of people with the exact same problem... Linked to the patch? Maybe. Also, my game is the sig addition, and isn't from Steam (just an fyi). Bioware, can you hear me? Please for the love of the Maker sort this out! D:

I just tried turning it down to DirectX 9. Still the same! *insane laughter-shifty eyes*

Yeah DX9 didn't do anything.

I don't know what to do about it, I'm kind of at my wits end. I wish I'd never intalled the update, if that truly is the source...

There's a huge thread about people who had this issue before the patch.
I had it with the demo, full game 1.0, and I still have it with version 1.01.
One partial fix that works for some people is to try running the game in a window.
Also, are you still getting the same performance issues while holding the right mouse button (mouselook?)
Any chance moving the mouse cursor to the abilities bar at the bottom of the screen fixes anything?
If so, definitely chime in here:

Have tried all you suggested, but I still have severe lag and stuttering during speech. I hope someone can find a fix for this soon...

I never had a problem until today when i upgraded my motherboard and cpu. The game used to run completely smoothly, but now it will "freeze" for 2-5 second periods. Usually in cut scenes or fights.
Went from Core2 Duo to an i5 2500k and an Asus P87 motherboard.
I found that by playing in windowed mode i can tab to a new window, and then back in instantly, and the it "unfreezes" the game ... doesn't stop it happening again though

You don't mention your video card, which will be important. Also, did you reinstall Windows or simply plug the old HD into the new board?
Since DA2 is relatively new, and it hasn't had a substantial patch yet, troubleshooting is a bit iffy. However, one of the other posters in this thread got their performance issues resolvedby doing a clean uninstall/reinstall of their video drivers...there's a link in my sig.
Otherwise, this post from the DAO support forums might give you some ideas, at least:

thanks for the reply
Video card stayed the same (GTS250). While i didn't reinstall windows I uninstalled (and used driver sweeper) all the old chipset, video card, lan drivers etc etc. Installed them all afresh.
May try rolling back the nvidia drivers just in case.

Its a game only issue if you do not get this issue in other games. I also have the same problem and it seems to turn up more in cutscenes than anywhere else.

Not sure if this is a similar issue, but after the 1.01 patch randomly my audio would go haywire in that if it was in 5.1 the whole audio seemed to shift one speaker to the left.
The way around this for my was to alt tab and change my config to 4.0 then back to 5.1 and all would be well again.

I am having audio delay like watching an old kung-fu movie, never had this problem till the 1.01 patch. I played with the 1.01 beta patch and it worked fine. Intresting point also my mass effect 2 sound is choppy, the very last word is cut off. I haven't changed anything but installing the 1.01 full patch. I have tried everything but no success. I have a Ati 5770 video card. I have retail DA2 and Steam ME2.
