A few days before DA is released - my EMA ( Education Fund ) comes through! I'm so lucky!
This means I have £180 to spend on upgrading!
I could probably get a new graphics card.. new memory.. etc with this.
I'm so happy!
But I have one problem: I am rubbish at all this components stuff. Anyone wanna give me a hand?

I would like to use Overclockers because I get free delivery there and I use it all the time and know it's fast
At the moment I would just like to upgrade my Graphics Card and memory..
I'm using a Nvidia 7300 SE at the moment after my last card broke.
I only have 1GB memory.
What is the best I can get from £180? Oh and I have a 400W PSU.

Ehm. I reckon you will need a new Power Supply. 800 is the safest if you go for the energy friendly ati cards. And I'll atleast try to get 4 gig of Ram minimal. If that's possible on your current motherboard.

800?! My Nvidia 8800GT barely even used 300W. I am not getting a new powersupply. And 4 GB is the max and to be honest, it's all you really need.

What brand is the PSU? The Corsair 400W should be enough for most things...
Anyway, at OCUK the 5770 for £126 seems the way to go for you (same power draw as the 8800GT too), but honestly it's probably not £50 better than the 4770...
This deal is pretty good, too. A bit faster than the 4770, with extra VRAM for future use.

Get 4 Gigs of Ram and an Ati Graphics Card. 5850 would be best but I don't know if that is within your money limits. Get an 4870 otherwise. Don't upgrade your PSU, that's bs.

What type of memory does your MOBO take?

I suggest you spend it toward your education.

Well, I presume the money is to go to your education, considering its being an education fund.
That money is a sizable sum (though, to me, anything higher than $20 CDN is a sizable sum) that could be put to better use.

I still live with my parents, I have no bills, nothing. What do you think I should spend it on? Food? Rofl
Anyway, why spend it on anything other than DA? :innocent:

You don't need more than a 650W (Corsair) to run a pair of 5850s in CF. Spending the cash needed for a quality 800W PSU is stupid unless OP's gonna put to together a new hardcore gaming machine.
Anyhow, OP: given your 400W PSU, I'd recommend something like the ATI HD4670 1GB RAM. Costs something like £60, and it'll work okay. No point spending more than that on a graphics card unless you have a PSU that will handle ATI's new 58xx series and one of those'll go over £180 by itself. Some people mentioned the 4870 and the GTS250 also, but will a 400W PSU be enough for either?
As for memory, what kind of RAM does your mobo support? DDR2 or DDR3? And do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit OS? Definately no point in getting more than 2GB RAM total if you don't have or are planning to get a 64-bit OS...
