Here's my support for Sebastian

Wow, that is wonderful!

And haha, the idea of Sebastian as the hetero Kelly Chambers is both accurate and hilarious. Let's hope he doesn't have an outfit like hers tucked away in the Chantry somewhere...

As far as the non-ending to his romance in the epilogues is concerned, I'd say that Bioware decided not to implement one where you romanced him, just to save on dev time/costs - exactly like what happened with a romanced Kelly in ME2. I don't think it's meant to imply that nothing came of your relationship with him.

I was disappointed that he didn't have anything special to tell me before we faced Orsino and Meredith...but again, I'd chalk that up to saving time/money by not creating content for a character not all players would have period, let alone have romanced.

(Edited to fix quoting issue!)

I'll try to post some nice screenshots of him over the next day or two. What's unfortunate, and Sebastian isn't the only one to whom this happens, is that his hairline is rather high: on my computer, at least, during the dialogues where you get close ups on his face, his hairline is out of the frame exactly, which makes it kind of look like he's balding...

I actually smirked at the chaste marriage... i mean he is after all a priest. I applaud the writers who created this character.

Anyway, from this video that I saw:

  • (2:05) Sebastian did hold Hawke's hands before he asked her to join the Chantry.
  • (2:28) Sebastian held Hawke by the arm when she said Yes!.
that's the only physical contact ever shown in the game.

the Rivalry option is a political move. After all, Hawke insulted the chantry and such. But he will come around... Sebastian will need heirs when he is king.

What I think is funny is that most folks think chaste means 'no sex at all in the marriage'... chaste just means no sex until after marriage, now if he'd have said a celibate marriage then women everywhere could start crying. xD

Hm, well I do actually interpret his statement to mean a marriage without sex.  There were couples in early Christianity who gave up physical relations in order to be more devoted, for example.  It's quite a radical concept in modern times but I'm impressed that a game writer went that route.  Sebastian's chastity is kind of a joke (*edit: around the boards, I mean), but having known people from monastic settings myself, I find them to be more respectful towards the opposite sex and more personally grounded.  The best marriage advice I ever got was from a nun.  Because they aren't macking on people for themselves, they have a unique perspective.  Not a lifestyle for me, but if someone does it for the right reasons and is emotionally stable, it can be a positive discipline and not something that's about hatred of the body or whatever.

None of the DA2 players I talk to regularly seem to like Sebastian much. They call him preachy. I don't get it: EVERY SINGLE ONE of your companions is preachy. Anders far more so than anyone else, ACTUALLY bordering on zealotry (and then... crossing that line and he keeps going...) but apparently it's bothersome because Sebastian discusses religion. *shrug* I'm not religious but I'm not bothered by his talk of the Maker. He never forces the issue, not even with people who could use being touched by the Maker instead of every sailor from here to Rivain.

The funny thing is, some of the companions try to 'beat him to the punch' because they're expecting a sermon and he never delivers. He doesn't talk to anyone from a place of self-righteousness or superiority.

Players are reacting just the same, they hear him talk about religion and they automatically assume he's hyper-judgemental. When he talks to Isabela he doesn't try to shame her for her lifestyle, on the contrary he uses it as a springboard for conversation because he's been where she is now. Sebastian is in no place to judge anyone and he knows that about himself, which is what makes him a good man.

Yeah, it's funny how that works. Some people have said that "the Chantry is worse than any religion in our world," but as in real life, it's completely dependent on the individual. Ironically, the people who decry bigotry are often bigoted themselves.

Sometimes Sebastian did make me angry--"ridiculous mage rebellion?" Hey! I'm a mage! I'm standing right here, schlonghead. But I and my Hawke forgave him because he was under stress and he's so very human. I love that about him.

I really hope you can steer him down a path other than chaste marriage or raving ambition in whatever expansions may come. I love how human Sebastian is, but ideally, I would like to see the two halves of him sort of come together. To see him have faith but not condemn himself to a life of chastity which he's obviously too passionate to be suited for; to see him realize his ambitions but in a healthy way which Elthina would've been proud to see.

I also hope he won't invade Kirkwall. I hope he'll see it's not what Elthina would've wanted. I hope Hawke, if no one else, can give him a wake-up call.

For sure.  The Chantry is pretty oppressive, but we also don' t have people walking around who can fry other people with their minds.  So you could argue that they're oppressing in response to a real threat.

He seems pretty happy in the life to me.  Just conflicted about what duty means.    Still, I would like to get him to go back to Starkhaven, but I can't get enough rivalry points.

Hey... Did you get married? *noticing the additional name to the name*

Question: When Sebastian says a chaste marriage in the eyes of the Maker, does he mean a marriage without sex? It doesn't sound like he's talking about a regular marriage to me. Sounds more like how nuns are married to god.

Does anyone else think DA:A Anders and Sebastian might get along really well, even be friends? Their personalities seem to be pretty similar, and I think an Anders without Justice would appreciate the fact that Sebastian is faithful without being preachy.

Maybe I'm just weird. o_o

Mmm. No, I believe a chaste marriage means no sex at all during marriage. Especially if you are going to take vows to become a lay sister. It's a symbolic thing.

According to dictionary.com

Chaste: refraining from sexual intercourse that is regarded as contrary to morality or religion.

Celibate: a person who remains unmarried, especially for religious reasons.

No sexy time for Sebastian in a chaste marriage... :( I'll have to rivalmance him.

[*]This is the definition I found and it doesn't say anything about no sex after marriage.
[*]CHASTE, a.

1. Pure from all unlawful commerce of sexes. Applied to persons before marriage, it signifies pure from all sexual commerce, undefiled; applied to married persons, true to the marriage bed.
2. Free from obscenity.
While they behold your chaste conversation. 1 Peter 3.
3. In language, pure; genuine; uncorrupt; free from barbarous words and phrases, and from quaint, affected, extravagant expressions

Artists, I have a trade request. I have a serious hankering for a Sebastian and Anders brofist. In exchange, you get a short story of your choice.

Thinking Awakening!Anders, you see. I think that Anders would definitely have liked Sebastian if Justice had never gotten involved. For some reason, I can see the two of them getting along really well. Anders was a womanizer, Sebastian was a (reformed) womanizer, they'd have a lot in common, and the fact that Sebastian never tries to preach might have actually drawn Anders back into the faith at some point. (He does say he was "good little Andrastian" at one point during Awakening.)

I would think not... Sebastian will be forced to Pray a lot. (LOL) especially when Orgen starts talking about women. Nathaniel is almost a goody goody...

or maybe Anders and Sebastian would get along as long as ser pounce-a-lot is with them.

I think they would get along fine, to be honest. Anders never seemed to go out of his way to antagonize anyone based on their views in Awakening (Ohgren started that little tiff), and Sebastian is pretty chill about running around town with SEVERAL known apostates. (Disregarding the conversation with Fenris about turning Anders in.)
