It's a derivative of a Bible verse:

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me"
-Psalm 23:4 (KJV)

XDDD yeah... They even made a rap out of that verse! Something in paradise.. or maybe is was an al yankovic thing.. hhmmm

But when I always talked to him after, I got "What did anders say to you about the chantry?" even AFTER he blew it up and I was trotting my way to the gallows to free the mages.. or if when I didn't help anders at all "Dragons are truly a magnificent creation of the maker"

so that prayed line is new to me..

wait, seb's a lawful good?! D: I thought he was a neutral good! how can you people tell?!

Lawful Good is a character that believes in law & orders ability to better peoples lives, and ensure the freedom for all. Sebastian believes in the Chantry's doctrines because he believes that they are there to make life better for all, he believes that it is the best way to bring peace, harmony, and safety to the people of Thedas. A Neutral Good character would not conform to a legal system or organization like the Chantry because they would see little to no reason for the laws (this doesn't mean they would be opposed to it in a way that a Chaotic Good character might be), they believe in good for goodness sake and believe that law and order is not necessary to have a peaceful society.

Sebastian does what a good character is expected to do, he has a code of honor and ethics that he would die before breaching. This is the very definition of a Lawful Good character.

Ooohhh.... Because my alignment is Nuetral Good .__.; I have a heavy sense of honor, with *some* respect for the law as I see that the laws are there to protect people.. up until they go straight up tyranically, and at that point, I'm rebelling..

Ok, Well with a heavy sense of honor, but when forced or being told to do it, I flee or work whole heartly against it.. and believes is freedom...

But damn, this is the second lawul good character I've liked and the third lawful in general ! :U

Oh and thanks rak! :D

And now... a pathetic attempt to whirl a conversation up... which I don't know if its entirely relevant...

but... how long until you all bet until this starkhaven dlc comes out? 8D

It is important to note that a Lawful Good character would work to take down a ruler who was a tyrant as well, being Lawful Good does not mean you follow the law blindly (that is Lawful Neutral). A Lawful Good character follows and enforces the laws only when they believe that the law is working to further the goal of freedom and is there in the best interest of the people. A Neutral Good character on the other hand doesn't care about the law, they see no reason for it. They will tolerate it, but will not actively follow the law if they see no reason to. A Neutral Good character believes that people themselves are good, and that law and structure aren't necessary to have a peaceful society. A Neutral Good character will feel little difference if the laws are unjust, as they did not care for them to begin with.

But this isn't a D&D forum, just thought i'd toss Sebastian's alignment out there. I like Lawful Good characters in games, they are noble and selfless which adds to their appeal.

A rivaled Sebastian is more "It can wait. Starkhaven will not benefit if Kirkwall falls." He grows away from "waiting for a sign". Perhaps he feels that Mage-hate will speed the process? I'm not sure. But again, his escalated anti-mage stance causes me distress. I was fully prepared to prefer a rivaled Sebastian.

I don't think he hates the mages.  I think he's anti-mage REBELLION in Kirkwall in Act 3, because the mages are actively targeting the Chantry, Elthina, and causing a whole lot of chaos and unrest in Kirkwall.  Friendship path Seb does still care about the issue, but he's not as willing to take a hard line as rivalry path Seb.  I think on the rivalry path, he's more willing to take ruthless action against people who ARE threatening what he values.

He's not keen on Meredith, and he only talks about putting down the rebellion and reasserting the Chantry's authority.  Not exactly mage-friendly like, say, Anders, but a far cry from Cullen or Meredith's stance.

Sebastian is always anti-mage rebellion. I was just really, really surprised to hear him say "If every mage in Kirkwall is locked safely in the circle. Or dead." And there I stood, a mage. This was his response to the sparkly good dialog option. It only got worse further down the dialog wheel. >.>

Huh.  When did you get that dialogue option?  During his last Questioning Beliefs quest?  He and my Hawke were at each other's throats by Act 3, and I never got anything that harsh from him.  Or maybe it's specific to the romance dialogue?

Yep. Questioning beliefs, and I was only romancing him. This was during the conversation in which he says "And perhaps one day we can make a more formal alliance between the Viscountess of Kirkwall and the Prince of Starkhaven."

I suppose his core beliefs are still there and he's just way more brutal about it. But I for one, prefer him when he says, "Frankly, both sides are despicable."

See, that's exceedingly weird.  He says that line to my Hawke, on the rivalry path.  And the worst thing he says is that he wants to put down the mage revellion and reassert the Chantry's hold.  I guess he says different things if you romance him?  But it's weird that his lines are more ruthless to a ROMANCED Hawke on the rivalry path than to an unromanced :?

The good old righteous prince Sebastian Vael. The best male companion in the whole Dragon Age series, he's even more righteous than Alistair. Of course he have my support.

I died laughing the first time I heard that one, because it literally happened about five minutes after Merrill's banter with Seb about having the Maker's light on his armor be less shiny.  I loved dragging those two around with me--they were in turns adorable, weirdly insightful, and hilarious.

"That one looks like a bunny rabbit." I literally fell out of my chair giggling at that.

Me too.

Oh, and this is my favorite bit of banter between him and Isabela...

  • Sebastian: You've been watching me all day. It's getting a little... distracting.
  • Isabela: Merrill's right. Your armor is shiny. I can see myself in it. Look!
  • Isabela: ****. Oh, ****. Is that a wrinkle? Is that a wrinkle between my brows?
  • Sebastian: Um. I don't see—
  • Isabela: Hold still!

D'awww. Anders's "No!!! Don't be dead, please!!!" is so heart wrenching. Also, Fenris makes me LOL, with how calm he is.  I think Carver's are my favorite. Or M!Hawke. "My face is not a shield!"

So... once upon a time, everybody could see traps?

It's rather hard to detect his brogue through all the yelling. "Maker preserve their stupid, stupid souls" is just hilarious. Too bad I've never heard him say that in-game.
