And maybe it's just me, but Sebastian always sounds so bummed out  when you're Rivaling/Rivalmancing him. One of his best lines for Rivalmancing is at the end of his act 3 Questioning Beliefs, and only if you DON'T choose the flirt option. (Formal alliance between the Viscountess of Kirkwall and Prince of Starkhaven). Of course, his "giving Hawke no less than a Prince" is the other great Rivalmance line. 

Totally agree. I wasn't sure if there was an actual romance flag to be
flipped, so I still chose some of the heart options...and cringed. In my
head I initially tried to justify it as "this is just her way of getting through
his initial defenses...and getting to watch him blush...and go pray, lmao." But, in Act 3 QB, I also really liked the non-heart options, esp since it was nice to hear HIM suggesting the alliance instead of me basically propositioning him. (Altho, indeed, I'd LOVE to be offered a Prince)

In the Gallows, though, I was a bit confused by his final comments. With a rivalmance and siding with the templars, it sounded like he no longer saw a future for us. "You're an amazing woman, Hawke. Had we met in different times... But let's not think on that now."  Does he mean different times, like with him no longer a brother? Or, in happier, non-warlike times, when we could just ride off in to the sunset? It was much sadder sounding than the siding with mages rivalmance, "I've never known a woman like you. I wish... We cannot afford distractions right now."

Anyway fellow Sebastian fans, I found a mod for Sebastian over on the Dragon Age Nexus Forum that really makes him seem more Scottish - Changed hairstyle and a beard, what do you all think?

Who knows, but the guy could have at least told her how he feels! Is a simple "I care about/love you Hawke" so hard? Spit it out man!

I guess I've been spoiled by Fenris' final speech. His whole "Nothing will keep me from you" + passionate smoochies is the best one that I've seen.

I just finished a Rivalmance playthrough with Sebastian, and managed to not outright be mean to anyone. *is proud of herself* (You can get +15 Rival with him by accepting Anders' "Dissent" quest using all the Aggressive options, but it doesn't sound "mean", more like straight to the point.)

I... honestly don't know what was up with that flirt line. Especially if you're Friendmancing him, which basically means you're respecting his place in the Chantry, so you shouldn't be trying to jump him and tear his clothes off right in front of the Grand Cleric (although I know my Hawke certainly thinks about it  ). Chalk it up to "he's only a half romance/DLC character", so he didn't get as much attention as the others. *pout*

Honestly, although I love mods (I have the PS3 version of DA2, so I can't mod it, but I've been using mods with KOTOR2 lately), I would never change Sebastian's default appearance. I love him just the way he is.

Knowing that Sebastian is just a DLC, they probably just had to disconnect Sebastian to have any form of continuation for DA3.

The way Sebastian refers to the chaste marriage, it does seem like he's talking "no sex, just lots of prayer and too much sexual tension". I don't think my Hawke could last, she'd probably end up jumping him in the confessional or something within a week.  But at least in the Friendmance he sort of says he loves her, whereas in the Rivalmance there's even less feeling between them, and his "proposal" sounds more political.

I know Ms. Hepler said that Sebastian's story isn't finished yet, so I'm hoping that means we'll see him with Hawke in DLC, not as a lame cameo in DA3. And I hope that if you romanced him, the DLC will acknowledge that, unlike Varric's epilogue.

OMG, Eranelle, that's great news! Thanks for sharing. I know Jennifer Hepler has said there will be more to his story, but nice to have more confirmation. Hmm, and nice to think that it could be a DLC and not just a novel or other follow up.

@Chylise, agree. I also read the chaste marriage as a 'no sex, none of the time' kind of thing, since he'd be married to Andraste and well, I guess that means I would be, too? Ack, so it's more like chaste polygamy. Not quite as much as fun as being offered a Prince, IMHO.

@judy-in-france, I actually never saw the rivalmance ending as just a political marriage...that notion kinda bums me out, now.

And, since Seb's not a real romance, I'll bet that there's no flag of any kind that would be transferred into DA3. So , indeed I'd also bet that the ending has to be suitably vague. But, a Starkhaven DLC sure better know that I've been flirting my @ss off with him! I've worked hard for those 100% rival points.

I have noticed that Bioware love to play with words. Listen to Anders after knowing that the complete git will blow up the chantry and you hear things like: Well you mix it together and booom! (Justice quest), my first mages rule playthrough totally missed this.

Sooo, methinks that Bioware is playing word games...where does Seb actually say celibate? He doesn't, not in my 3 playthroughs with him as the romance interest. We hear what we think we hear. He wants to marry an Andrastean, a sister in the faith, but we know from DAO and Leliana that vows of chastity in the Andrastean faith do not stop those who love each other from sleeping together. He is just tired of lust, but think of this, what better long term partner than a man who knows how to please a woman, and loves her too? I rest my case....

Curious. Indeed, I'd been using the notion of chastity and celibacy interchangeably. Most of the time in the game (all of the time?) they say chastity. But, in the short story by Jennifer Hepler, it does use the word celibacy.

"My complaint is with my parents, for sending me here as punishment, for forcing me to a vow of celibacy to protect my brothers' children from any rival heirs I might beget."

But, I do like the idea of there being some ambiguity.

Beside the Prince and Viscountess proposal, even if they are married to each other...they will have a different bed since they will have to rule their own cities... I mean you can't really rule Kirkwall while living in Starkhaven or vice versa. So I think our FHawke even with either the chaste marriage or the political one will have to cope with the fact that she can't bed Sebastian either way.

Chaste marriage: Your always with him but can't do anything with him, he's always there unreachable.

Political Marriage: You get a visit from him once a year(or twice a year if you go an visit him) for business purposes. You might get the opportunity to bed him IF your not already dead exhausted with ruling all day and diplomatic stuff. (Starkhaven is FAR from Kirkwall after all)

Either way we are screwed by both option.

It'd be nice is someone from Bioware would confirm whether Chantry Initiates/Priests/Sisters/Mothers/etc practice celibacy or castity, like David Gaider did for Templars.

And even dictionary.com says people confuse "celibate" and "chaste". <_< Thanks internet, way to make me feel dumb.... again. ^.^

Well in DAO when Leliana talks to Shale about vows of chastity, she says explicitly that even if she'd taken a vow of chastity as a Chantry Sister, she would still be able to lay with someone that she loved. It is in DA canon.

Yes, Sebastian seems to come into his own in fan fiction, Aquila is fantastic! fanfiction.net and the Dragonage Kinkmeme.

One day someone is going to get that line to work again at the end of the game, and of course word games again, remember Varric is telling the tale to Cassandra. I guess Hawke is safe in Starkhaven myself...
