I have yet to have a PT where everyone is Friend or Rival. Probably something to work on eventually. XD
I had a few PTs where everyone was maxed out friendship... and it's weird. If you rival Anders, he assumes you're a templar lover, even if you're not. Which is the case with everyone (except Sebastian, which is nice), they assume that you're on the opposite side of what they stand for, even though you might not be. So when I friended everyone, and sided with the mages, Fenris always being happy at my templar-loving ways made no sense.

I find the more direct paths to be the more fun. It's why Renegade is my favorite play style ever. X3 Most folks I know though are hopeless Paragons. XD

Maybe I'm just a PITA, but I always found the diplomatic options to be a bit boring. Granted, some of the sarcastic ones have you scratching your head (bad jokes), but I found that in the ME system, the Paragon's at least got someone good at times (IE, it's not the diplomatic way to handle it, but it is a BAMF way to go!)
If you could just play however you wanted in ME without trying to get Renegade/Paragon points to boost dialogue choices, I'd gladly play Neutral with a mix of Paragon/Renegade. (hence why I like DA more, you can say whatever you want and it only affects influence/personality) But, in order to get the "best" options, you need to be straight Paragon/Renegade, which is why morality bars suck! I find "complete jerks" and "diplomatic saints" to be very cliché and boring, but in KoTOR and ME you pretty much HAVE to be one or the other, otherwise you end up missing out on bonuses that you only get for being extreme light/dark/paragon/renegade/etc. I think DA has it right, using influence bars and not morality bars.
