How do you people feel that Sebastian compares to Leliana?
Ummm, you really want the truth?
I hated Leliana, it was a voice thing...well mainly. The very bad fake French accent (I actually do live in France). Now if Bioware intend to use that same type of fake accent during 40 hours of gameplay on all characters...I'm not buying it. I can not lie, as a Scot myself, I find the Scottish accent of Sebastian...charming. This is why he has been my romance interest for 9 playthroughs out of 12. Good looks, great accent, and essentially a good man.
Now from a Chantry point of view, I found Leliana more preachy than Sebastian. Though strangely enough I think that the two characters would like each other in the DA Universe. Both have shady pasts, Leliana is now the left hand of the Divine, and Sebastian according to the Codex, performs that function for Elthina in the final 3 years. So when Sebastian tells Hawke that Elthina did not know about something...I believe him. I also believe him when he tells me that Meredith is no longer accepting Elthinas orders/advice.
Sebastian does say that he has never lied to Varric or Hawke.
Ummm, what else, oh yes Leliana in DAO is a lay sister, so did not take a vow of chastity. Sebastian was a Brother until he broke his vows swearing vengeance on his familys killers, though he clings to his memory of said vows. Whether you feel that to be Sebastian being afraid of his old debauched ways, or clinging to the Chantry depends on your personal interpretation.
The game play makes Sebastian either a man of the cloth (Chantry) or Prince of Starkhaven.
Is that enough, or do you have a specific comparison in mind?

Whoah, whoah, whoah! No kilts? Let's not go crazy! Sebastian may never use common Scottish terms, but who's to say kilts (or kilt-like garments...suppose it could be called something else in this world) aren't at the height of Starkhaven fashion? We haven't gone there yet, maybe everyone wears them there!
No, the idea of Sebastian in a kilt has my full support...or lack thereof.
Split the difference; kilts (and what is not worn underneath them) stay, but lass goes, to be replaced by....something, but definitely not the sweetling that I've also read. Though since Sebastian normally says Hawke, maybe a shortening of her first name.

Then her accent sucks! It would be like casting a Liverpuddlian for English. Parisian accents do not sound like that when speaking English. That is how we expect them to sound, so she may have adjusted for audience, being fair.
Trust me I've lived here for 8 years and often talk both English and French to our neighbours. There are certain vowel sounds that are 'off' to our ears, but that is not it. It is like being chained to a bad sit com like Allo Allo. How Brits expect French people to sound in English....
40 hours of fake french (Orlesian) in DA3...forget it!
She lists her Ethnicity as : Mediterranean. Nowhere on her site does it say French, other than as a spoken language.

Must go edit story due to this. Thank you for pointing out the fallacy...no more Sebastian in a kilt (cruel women) unless Bioware write it into DLC. I still think that Sebastian in a kilt is cute...just saying.

Several of my cousins were born and raised in the Paris suburbs, and their accent sounds, well, British with a slight french accent when they are speaking English. At least that's what it sounds like to me, as an American. Corrine Kempa's accent does sound exaggerated, but it's possible that that was what the director wanted when she was recording Leliana's lines.
As for Leliana's story between the end of DA:O and her role in DA2: I doubt we're ever going to get the full story on what she's been doing. She could have stayed in Denerim, to be with her friend/lover the Cousland Monarch or Warden Counselor, or she could have travelled with the Warden wherever they were going next, or she could have headed back to retrieve the Sacred Ashes. What's important is that, no matter what, she did achieve fulfillment by helping to kill the Archdemon and end the Blight, thus further strengthening her faith in the Maker.
Even if Sebastian gets to avenge his family by having the Flint Company mercenaries eliminated, exposed the Harrimans and got rid of the demon infecting them, he still has a huge emotional blow right at the end of the game when Elthina dies. Depending on how Hawke reacts to Anders, Sebastian could now have time to reflect on the Chantry explosion, and find meaning in the chaos, or he will be consumed with hatred and anger and seek revenge. So yeah, he has a lot of self examination to do, hopefully we'll get to see it.

Is it known who Meghan Vael actually is? Mother? Sister? Aunt? Other relation?
I'm in the middle of writing, got to a scene with Sebastian and realized I have no idea who formerly owned "Meghan Vael's Locket". Total derp for me. TIA for any insight!

I've always assumed Meghan Vael was his mother. Sebastian never mentions a sister, as far as I know.
I think I'll go with that since it was my first impression too. I remember him speaking about his brothers but no sisters, so I assumed he didn't have any. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something obvious.
Thanks bunches!

The character tumblrs are fantastic. I spent all morning reading through various ones.
I'm not particularly fond of kilts. I understand the cultural significance, and can respect it. But I'm too immature to avoid giggling at the sight of a guy wearing what essentially looks like a plaid skirt, then making jokes about whether he's wearing underwear or not.
And I have to agree with everyone else about the speech patterns. Seeing a character speak differently than they normally do in fanfiction is rather.. Jarring. And it makes me want to stop reading the story.
I can't really comment on the authenticity of anyone's accents. I have a pretty generic "American" accent, and I haven't really known anyone with an obvious accent from another country.
The Orlesians in DA2 make me giggle though. Not because of the accents, but because of how they exaggerate certain words in sentences. Like.. Dulci and the Comte De Launcet. It's been a couple years since I took French classes, so I don't really remember how you're supposed to inflect sentences when speaking them. Speaking French wasn't exactly high on our list of things to do in Highschool. Learning how to read and write it, sure. Speaking though? No. A lot of people in my class liked saying things wrong because they "sounded funny" as it is. I kind of feel bad for the teacher now.

@Nhadalie - You know, I'm not much of a kilt person either. I think they're kind of neat. But... it doesn't flip my switch to see a guy walking around in a kilt or utili-kilt er whatever.
Nice suit? Sure. Jeans and a tank top? Yea. Shirtless? Yes please.

I usually assume most accents in video games are faked by the VAs, even though they may not be. *shrugs*
Although I get annoyed when people say that Merrill's Dalish clan sounds Canadian, because I'm Canadian and no one I grew up with sounds like that.

I really can't imagine where people would get the idea that the Dalish sound Canadian.. I grew up right on the border, going over to Canada all the time. And I still live there. Most Canadians I've known sound pretty similar to people from where I live. Some sound a little bit different, but not by a huge amount.(Such as a friend of mine from Saint John, NB has a slightly different accent.)

I'm not sure if Leliana's story is complete, per se; there's a big chunk of it missing, when she became a Seeker.
Why she became a Seeker: Sorry I don't know, nor can I find it in the Wiki or Codex.
However consider who the present Divine Justinia V is... Revered Mother Dorothea who helped Leliana in the past. That is in the codex. I would imagine that Leliana went back to the Chantry after the events of Origins, and because of her notoriety ended up in Orlais when the new Divine was elected (End Act 1-Beginning Act 2 of DA2). She basically became the left hand (spy, assassin) of the Divine.
The Codex says that she joins the Seekers at a later date, after the events of DA2 maingame when we are told that Sisters and Brothers left the Chantry to join the Seekers.
If Sebastian remains in the Chantry, I think that Rak72 may be right. He could also end up as a Seeker.
Regardless of codex, on my last playthrough - last weekend, Leliana appeared in Faith in...Seeker armour! This may be a glitch caused by Legacy or one of my mods, I'm not sure.

They sound slightly Irish to me.
Sebastian has a very pleasant Lowland sounding Scottish accent, to my ear. Similar to Johns, so I'd put the actor as originating somewhere around the Glasgow outskirts /Ayrshire area. I haven't checked....must go and do so. Hold on a sec...Bingo! Alec Newman born in Glasgow, raised in Scotland and England.
