Here we go... I think: Rivalmancing the Prince

Thanks for this! I'm playing a sarcastic rogue Hawke for whom it would be very out of character to up and become a Sister because of a boy.

What unlike Sebby here Lucas took in kingly responsibilities of conquering eveything to heart :P (even if he was mad and a jerk even to his sister) I would never dream of killing Sebastian but you have to admit how SATISFYING! it was to kill Lucas.

Food for thought: In most cases, it's your final choice that matters most over the personality except in cases with Sebastian-specific quests and dialogue and few others. Though, even I think some of the different dialogue in terms of personality is a litte iffy...

Regardless, I hope someone can benefit from it... I wrote in a manner so that people could rival him without feeling dirty about it and still play a "good" Hawke.

Please note that this contains spoilers and I have included warnings on the page thusly. It also makes many assumptions which are dictated at the opening of the guide. I've been meaning to add his last companion quest and questioning beliefs, but the main point of the guide to get him rivaled. But yes, I'll be updating it soon so that you may know how to get him to make the infamous flirt.

Also, here is the url if the link doesn't want to work:
http://illusionaryen...cing-the-prince

I have an old print out of your work on Rivalling Sebastian. Just one problem since patch 1.3 the rivalry points are much less than quoted. The most I've got out of Repentence is 15 Rivalry.

Does anyone else have the same problem, or do I have a screwed flag somewhere (?!?). I'm going to re-install the game and see what happens.

Thanks for the tips!Posted Image

@ John...

I wrote it with patch 1.03 in a playthrough from start to finish... did you do all parts? You should get 15 in the conversation with Lady Harriman and the demon Allure, an extra 5 with Flora when you run into her as you start to leave through the estate, and then 10 more for a total of 30 after the conversation back in the Chantry if you follow my guide, even though you miss out on the flirt (if you go for the flirt, I have included at the end of the guide various situations were you can gain extra rivalry point that you may have missed)...

If there are any problems, the Wiki is also a good source for how a companion might react and my own game matched those quoted in the article for Repentance.

Any road, thanks... I hope you get everything back in working order, but I do apologize if my game is somehow glitchy or my guide incomplete. I wrote it as I was playing, minimizing and typing out the reactions and then adding the points when the conversations were over.

EDIT: The point values are correct, I just played through the quest to make sure. Also, I edited the guide and added more extras at the end for other rivalry situations as well as point out which particular choices during the certain quests would net you the rivalry points.

If anyone finds any mistakes or more ideas, please feel free to let me know.

I re-installed then loaded my standard save game at the beginning of act 2. The points are right....good! Now I've got half a chance of rivalling Sebastian. You've got me wondering if this is the reason that Judy is having so much trouble - maybe I should re-install her game too.

It looks like a glitch caused by a mod that I was having problems with. Oh well, at least it is sorted now.

*hugs* No problem, John.

And I know you pain... I hate when mods corrupt your files, though you love them so much. I lost track of how many times that happen in DA:O.

But yes, I waited until 1.03 to do the playthrough to make sure everything worked for my canon and that I had access to as many quest as possible, even with an imported game from Origins. All in all, I think the guide works pretty well... to be honest, I just wanted to avoid the whole +25 towrds friendship for merely accepting his last companion quest, Faith.

Anywho, I've been going through it and editing here and there... should be good now unless someone finds more things to add. I could always make one for Act III, but I don't think I have it in me to do another one. I spent days working on this one and making sure everything matched.

Yes... he wanted to be king so much he had Jowy kill his daddy... >.>

Heehee, I'm just psyched that you know what Suikoden II is! That's like, my favorite game ever, and most people don't know what it is!

This page is sadly lacking in Seb art. So I shall once again turn to rabbitzoro.deviantart.com/ to rectify the problem.

Curious: what class do you prefer when romancing Sebastian and why?

Rivalmance : Direct/Snarky ambitious warrior who wants to be Viscountess.

Friendmance : Diplomatic Mage, who is a devout andrastian and would rather the Chantry had another member who was open to her views than a Prince who she'd never get to have a happy ending with because a mage in a position of authority would have an exalted march on their doorstep before the coronation was halfway finished.

I romance Sebastian (both friend and rival) with my canon Warrior.

I have romanced him with a mage and rogue before, but I'm not a fan of rogue in DA2 like I was in DAO, and the mage/Sebastian romance makes me scratch my head because he wants her to take up positions (Viscountess/Chantry Sister) when she technically can't.

I personally think it's great that you can't shag him since a vow of celibacy is a major thing.

I just successfully rivalmanced him and got rewarded with an adorable grin when he mentions "a more formal alliance." Aww....  He's definitely getting friendmanced on my next playthrough though, if only because I want the proposal.

friendmanced is for me. To the contrary of my Warden, whom married Alistair and become the Queen of Ferelden and is loved by everyone, I want my Hawke to be a tragic hero, so she married Sebastian only to be left cause she choose to let live Anders so he can repent for his crimes. And to be honest I didn´t like how the scene display, I understard if Seb and Marian weren´t married but they were, lazy writting in that scene (but love you anyway bioware)

Yeah, my Hawke spent many nights just picking out cushions for that throne...I'm working on my warrior rivalmance next and I can't wait.

Viscountess of Kirkwall and Princess of Starkhaven...the Free Marchers have be nervous about that sort of power in one Ferelden.

@TeenZombie - Absolutely... at least, that's what I keep telling myself. You can rival him without being evil, you just have to make the hard decisions with the right intentions. *wrote a guide on how to rival the prince without being a jerk by about half-way through Act II so you can make whatever decisions you want after that*

"You'll be a just and fair ruler." That line (not sure if I'm quoting right) is probably one of the best in regards to him and the prospect - given the right tools, Starkhaven would prosper in his hands... he just needs a push and to learn to stop waffling.

EDIT: Here's the link to the guide, now available to anyone: Rivalmancing the Prince

Also, here is the url if the link doesn't want to work:

Thank you so much for the guide! I have Sebastian now on full rivalry without doing something cruel that would not fit to my Hawke. I am going to compare friendship and rivalry - hopefully we will get a new dlc to further explore Sebastians story soon but it could be that they spare it for DA3...

may i just say, thank you IllusionaryEnnui for this: http://illusionaryen...cing-the-prince

this answered the questions i had about the rivalmance. i was looking up the points on the wiki (http://dragonage.wik...n_Vael/Approval)and adding them up in my head, but this totally answers the extra questions about RP and flirt prompts. thank you!
