may i just say, thank you IllusionaryEnnui for this: http://illusionaryen...cing-the-prince

this answered the questions i had about the rivalmance. i was looking up the points on the wiki (http://dragonage.wik...n_Vael/Approval)and adding them up in my head, but this totally answers the extra questions about RP and flirt prompts. thank you!

The Wiki played its part, though incomplete, but this is certainly a little more precise. Nevertheless, you're welcome, my dear.

EDIT: I'm looking for a picture for tops, but I just can't find one at the momet... Raincheck?

*giggles* Wrinkled nose... oh dear, I'm sorry, Sebastian, but it was the only way. You'll forgive us in the morning.

Nice catch, Stephi.

Here we go... I think: Rivalmancing the Prince

Nice. I'll have to keep this as a reference if I ever play through again. I still feel really bad for barking at the Grand Cleric...it would be preferable to max out his rivalry by the end of Act II.

Curious: what class do you prefer when romancing Sebastian and why?

Bit late, but...I romanced him with a mostly Diplomatic/Helpful...occassionally Aggressive, always as ready to get into a fight as she is to stick her nose in people's business, conflicted but largely pro-templar Warrior Hawke.

I noticed a couple Warriors...any one else...get a kick out of the potential dynamic? That the woman is the frontline bruiser, while the white-knight-ish prince is the scrapper? I'm endlessly amused by it. Lady Hawke might say to Sebastian, "And here I thought I was the one you wanted to protect!", but come on, I think they both know who's protecting whom.

Aww, who's a grumpypants?

Come on, Seb...you wanna go to the Hanged Man? That'll make you feel better.

You wanna slay some Darkspawn?

You wanna take a dump in Anders' shoes? Okay, we'll go take a dump in Anders' shoes.

I threw the "barking at the Grand Cleric" as a last resort... as long as you do the quests and the questioning beliefs, you should get all the points and not have to rely on the extra point scenarios I included at the end. It was designed to rival him before the end of the Act as to your preference, so it should be good. Hope it helps if you decide to use it.

In spades. X3  It's one of the reasons why the only Hawke I could wrap my mind around gunning for Sebastian is my Warrior.  Plus I love being the WARRIOR SMASH type.

ROFL!
Random side note, I saw someone say the otherday they were thinking of writing a story with Sebastian becoming a Grey Warden... and that's actually a pretty interesting idea.  I doubt it'd ever happen in canon, but do you think he'd survive the joining?

Illusionary Ennui: Just reporting back in with an edit for rivalry points.

Offered and Lost: When talking to the viscount, select a mother was involved and then burn the bodies, for 10 Rivalry. :)

Love the picture of Sebastians frown, just saw an identical one when Petrice was walking backwards and forwards...I guess that is his POed face.

I've added it, John. I had before that burning the bodies was worth +5, but with the addition of implicating Petrice, I think it would make it the +10. *hugs* Thanks for the input.

My rivalry-single-for-Sebastian character is a dual wielding rogue, and I had no problem on Normal, even with having three rogues in the party fairly often (needed to pay attention to Isabela, since it seems like the best opportunities for friendship/rivalry points are in Act 1).  I guess it's a good thing that you don't have to worry about party balance in DA2 on Normal difficulty, because it makes getting friendship and rivalry points much easier when you're not worried about getting creamed with no tank.

I thought it made the most sense to side with the Templars with a non-mage, and so it was also convenient to save her for Seb.  Although she's not as "developed" roleplaying wise as my mage (I think I just enjoy playing mages more).  I've toyed with the idea of playing a mage who eventually sides with the Templars, but I don't know if I can go through with it.  Maybe I'll write her story out ahead of time, so Act 3 makes a little more sense...not that it makes a ton of sense no matter what you do.

Last night I had the weirdest Dragon age dream, it was set in the London of what seemed to be Hellgate London/Mass Effect 3, and all the characters were SF.

F!Hawke was a marine captain, and her team were extracting Reverend/now Prince Sebastian (Starkhaven now being a planetary system!?). Seb had some wonderful white and gold battle armour and a snipers rifle with long distance grenade launcher. He was an army fighting reverend....my mind is mad....even justified the shoot me now armour with medics and reverends wearing white to denote their calling.
Fenris had nanobot tattoos that moved beneath the skin to form camouflage, Isabela wore a stealth suit and was pilot of our squad vehicle. Varric looked like a short man of solid muscle with Bianca his faithful shuriken catapult and grenade launcher. Aveline was Hawkes second in command.

Too much DA2...it is invading my dreams...:crying:

sounds a little like noah and kaidan... ;)

after thinking it through and seeing the responses/possibilities, i'm nearly through act 1 with my sebastian rivalmance hawke. she's starting as a bit of a bruiser, going to turn more diplomatic as act 2 rolls by - out of the mercenary gig and into nobility and all that. i see her as a very practical sort - usually reasonable, but totally vicious when she needs to be. named her elizabeth after a certain monarch i based her off of. warrior, naturally. all the better to become the viscountess.

Yes! ...Also, I figure a Warrior is the only one strong enough to carry a full grown man...seems appropriate.

There doesn't seem to be any specific criteria for making through the Joining. You either do or don't. And since Word of Gaider has declared Wardens are unable of having kids, and relationships and outside responsibilities just aren't a good idea...it's a lose-lose situation.

Sounds good! Though now I'm curious...did anybody consider a relationship with Sebastian when deciding a name for their Hawke? It actually dawned on me recently that a good name for a Friendmancing Lady Hawke would be Britomart...that's a character from Spenser's, "The Fearie Queen", and she was the Knight of Chastity.

I don't like switching tones too much, so my Hawke all but stuck with the Helpful personality. I try to reason it that she was idealistic in the beginning, then became something of a Knight in Sour Armor later on. Considering she started out as a grunt soldier and has probably spent most of her life working...in my case, I suppose it's less opposites attract and more lady and the tramp. And Sebastian's the lady.

Considering we don't have to take too much stock into Word of Gaider (Fiona, anyone?) I think the AU idea still has merit.  You can always have the cavieat of .... Do this or be dead?  And if Cous Cous is on the Throne back in Fereldan, Sebastian the GW retaking Starkhaven.... the Divine would have a FIELD DAY considering more and more GW's are ending up in positions of power.

Mean while the Warden Commander in Weissepht is clicking fingers together going eeeeexcellent... LoL

There are definitely some parallels, especially considering that I always tend to renegade Kaidan just as I always rival Sebastian. Which makes sense, I suppose, since I essentially recreated Noah for DA2.

That's fair, guess I can give AUs more leeway. Plus, if I'm to have my way, my Warden will be running Orzammar while Anora can hopefully take care of Ferelden without Alistair screwing up too much. It's just, from what I gather, the "canon" is somewhat...diluted.

Now, as to whether Sebastian would make a good Warden, I would say so. Not far from becoming a brother, in terms of dedication. It's a worthy cause, and he seems fond of those.

Speaking of worthy causes, when I was playing through my rivalmance, I was planning on getting some easy points by being mean to Emeric...turns out, if Sebastian is there when you initially say no to the templar, he speaks out about how it's a good idea to help. The helpful/diplomatic response to that is essentially, "If it means that much to you, we'll do it," which I found very sweet...Needless to say, it made rivaling him that much harder.

nice. i've never renegaded kaidan, don't think i ever will. kyrie prefers him paragon. she'll leave his renegade other side for noah. um...that sounds kind of kinky, in a way.

anyhow, as for her being elizabeth, no. they're deadly and practical, but other than that, no. actually, noah inspired me a little for her. if i ported liz to ME, she'd be a renegon. your pics of noah make me want to try the renegon path more. :wizard:

i have 5 hawkes in mind for da2 - intention is to try all classes, romances, sibling endings, etc. elizabeth is #3, the sebastian romance. #1 was derived from kyrie, went in a totally different direction. as of now, i don't think any will be too much like her. #4 will be closest, i guess, but i really can't imagine kyrie apart from ME now. after taking her personality out of da:o, i don't think she'd thank me for sticking her back in hte middle ages.

and right now, going to start with rivalmance for sebastian. if i like, might try friend, too.

Something I hadn't thought of until now, but I'm doing my Sebastian friendmance and Anders rivalry runthrough. I'd planned on seeing if I can talk Anders into siding with the Templars with me, but can I keep Sebastian if I do that, or does Anders still have to get the murder knife? I'm thinking he does, but I just wanted to make sure.

murder-knifing anders makes me sad. i really can't have a hawke actually stay with him, even when romanced, 'cause i just sort of dislike mass killings of innocent people and all, but i really hate hawke being the executioner. kind of wish sebastian would step in if you ask him.

i tend to let anders live if pro-mage (city's already gone to hell. what's one more mage?) and keel him if i'm doing viscountess path. don't want neighboring prince mad, romanced or no

ooh!

seriously wish there was a little more sebastian to this romance, much as i love it. more cutscenes and so on.

though i am seriously loling (<-- a word?) at having him in party with my warrior. on auto-level he's a little...delicate. i keep having to run over and keep the mobs off of him with hawke's biga** sword. it's pretty hilarious, really.

and seriously, chig, i am loving the renegon path (relatively speaking). i'm playing this hawke as a 'take no stupid chances' kind of gal and she manages to be noble in a very ruthless way. it's very mediveal. or machiavellian. or both, really, sort of the same thing. i'm thinking she could be a medici. anyhow...

so yeah! thanks for noah and the inspiration.
