At the very least, a Chantry-Mage Hawke would be forced to take the Harrowing, and submit to a phylactery, and maybe spend some time in a Circle in order to prove herself to the Divine, before she was allowed to work for the Chantry. I really can't imagine them letting an apostate take vows, especially after what Anders does.
Is there even a Chantry in Kirkwall at all, after the endgame? I'd imagine Sebastian would be called to Orlais, at least at first.

If she's a bully, then she'd be like a girl in a schoolyard, pushing around one boy in particular because she likes him
But I would say the latter, if anything. Someone who is kind and generous but not afraid to speak her mind, stick her nose in people's business or beat someone up...someone who would say, "No way, I'm not getting involved in this...now here's my opinion." I always had her send mages to the Circle, but because she believed in what she thought was the greater good. However, I also had a no exceptions, no excuses mentality with blood mages and demons...except when the game made me excuse it...
The schoolyard image might top the swimming pool one.
Yeah...my Hawke was a little greedy and is really fond of dispensing justice with her big friggin' sword...but she's a total softie with her momma and her sister. One thing about DA2...no matter how evil you are...your mom and your dog still love you unconditionally. Awwww. And she send mages back to the circle, but more to keep order than to be pro-templar.
With Sebastian, I think it's less about right and wrong and more about being..."unscrupulous". This wasn't exactly my intention, but the lesson taught to a rival Sebastian is that when your cause is noble, you do what you must to achieve it. My mentality for this Hawke was the value of hard work, loyalty, and resposibility...not utilitarianism.
Well, doing whatever it takes works so well for the Wardens...
And I was take aback by that Emille situation, too...I guess Sebastian, even though for the Circle, still wants Mages to have some happiness in their lives like human beings, not thoughtlessly wrangled like cattle.
Yeah...considering his sides with you either way on the templar/mage ending ("stop the templar tyranny" or "stop the blood mages"), he actually seems resonable in that debate.
I've used all the flirt lines for fear that skipping any one of them would disrupt the romance. I mean, the first time around, you have to tell him to "listen to your heart" just to get the option to flirt, so I didn't want to miss anything...If I could skip anyone and still be in the romance with him, I'd like to avoid "I'm just talking about two people, one night, and forgetting all your problems,". That was the absolute worst, in my opinion.
You know, I think that's the one I skipped (and I still got the 'alliance' talk). Seriously, of all the people to just throw a one-night stand at...start small Hawke! Get him to give you a head bump first, then move on to 'rivals with benefits'.

I still haven't watched the most recent movie version of Jane Eyre, but I was OBSESSED with the BBC mini series with Timothy Dalton when I was a young teen. I wasn't that thrilled with the Keira Knightly Pride and Prejudice, and again, loved the Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle series. I think the longer format just lets the source material shine.
Huh. Maybe I can look at the Sebastian DLC as the first part of a mini-series.

I actually watched the Masterpiece Theater version from 2007. Which has quite a bit more kissing and caressing than the book, but there you go. It's still wonderful and I highly recommend it.TeenZombie wrote...

And as much as I love Keira Knightley, I wasn't a fan of that version either. You're right about the longer format. I remember watching and thinking "This doesn't happen until later!" and it threw me off. Plus, no pool-diving scene. Terrible, really.

But I do think he is a genuinely kind, warm, giving person who wants to do the right thing. It's funny how people call him a zealot just because he's personally religious, even though he's hardly as strong in his beliefs as almost anyone else in the group. He believes sincerely in the goodness of the Maker, and has found happiness through the Chantry that he wants to share. But he's pretty liberal in his interpretations of what is and isn't the work of the Maker -- even to the point where he'll accept that the Dalish Creators might be another term for the same god.
This is a characterization that I've seen a lot on the forums in regards to Sebastian (and Leliana for that matter) that's bothered me a lot. Companions that wear their faith on their sleeve seem to be anathema for some people but I enjoy these characters.
I'm not a religious person irl but I'm open to it and I have an appreciation for the beauty and all of the good that comes from it. Sebastian in particular is a nice character to have around if just for the fact that he's a really positive person and because he's not as forceful with his beliefs and a lot of people make him out to be. If anything, Anders can safely claim that distinction.
There's a lot of diversity in beliefs among companions and I do appreciate the fact that BioWare represents characters with faith among them. Hoping to see more of Sebastian in the future.

I hadn't seen this quote and it makes me want to hug Jennifer. (But not in a creepy way and I promise I won't actually do it.) There's something really magical about faith that I personally just don't get. Sebastian really isn't a zealot. He's just a man who's found peace in something that a lot of forum-goers are quick to shun in real life. I think this is partly why I like Cullen too. Their faith is actually what draws me to them and the reason why I find them intriguing.

I think what makes it tough for Sebastian and Liliana is by the time they're introduced to the Warden/Hawke, they've already had a crisis of faith and pulled through. There's been a story arc of redemption or finding yourself (or whatever you want to call it) but the person playing the game doesn't witness it themselves. Do we get hints? Some. Sebastian tells Isabela that he got tired of that lifestyle. Had Sebastian been more than DLC, there might have been more to suggest how low he was before he picked himself up.

Damn you.
Now I will hear every Sebastian line like Zaeed is saying it.
"HAWKE! One time I went to the Chantry in Starkhaven with some friends! I was the only one who ever made it back...."
Or!:
ELTHINA NO MAKER!! ARARAHGHGHGGAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great now people are staring at me.
Thanks a lot.
Edit:
Also got my only Sebastian romancing character into act 2 finally.
To bad school has started so I wont be able to play much, but still I love that first flirt.

The first flirt is quite sweet, the others not so much. Especially the "Who said 'marriage'?" flirt option:
"I'm just talking about two people, one night and forgetting all of your troubles."
classy, Hawke, very classy. She's clearly been around Isabela for too long. I was half expecting Hawke to try some other terrible flirt lines.

That's okay...as soon as I made the comparison between Sebastian and Garrus this appeared in my head:
"So when I should I book the inn?"
"I'd wait if I were you, Hawke...You know me, I like to savor the last shot before I release the arrow...wait..."
It's sooooo bad...I know...but it's so bad I had to share it.

Seriously, what other pick-up lines can you use on a priest?

I have to admit, I'm myself kind of a "convert". I loved Sebastian's first appearance in the game, but after that I became successively more hostile towards him, the reason being that I saw how he and Anders have their constant fights. I could hardly go anywhere without the two of them pulling it off, AGAIN. I eventually got tired of it, and - being an ardent Anders lover - I sided with Anders, and dismissed Sebastian as a petty zealot.
Funny how things should have changed in the last few days... first I stumbled across this splendid Sebastian/Anders fanfic which you will probably already know (emmav.deviantart.com/gallery/31512583), then I came across this quote of Hepler and everything... changed.
I began to gain a whole new perspective on Sebastian. He is *not* a zealot. He is such a kind, liberal and understanding man, I was amazed. I actually started to *listen* to his squabbles with Anders, and I found that Sebastian was acutally mostly in the right. Suddenly I began to see how Anders would willfully hurt and drive away all the people he could call friends in Act III, and it hurt and made standing by his side immensly difficult (which I had never experienced).
But what hurt most... betraying Sebastian after the blowing up of the Chantry in the end. I had actually kind of... looked forward to that event... like I could finally tell this stupid zealot off, but suddenly I found that it nearly broke my heart when the game made me decide between Sebastian and Anders (I never even imagined I could so much as *hesitate* to side with Anders...).
So yeah. Sebastian is simply awesome. I love him

So I don't get it. I am playing my first ever playthrough where I plan to romance Seb. If I follow through the entire thing Friend sided, does that mean when he leaves for Starkhaven, that him and Hawke will get hitched for real?

Aveline will comfort Hawke, if she's "single" at that time. You can get a line from Sebastian saying that he arranged for a Chantry memorial in honor of Leandra, but he says that to all Hawkes, I believe.
If you friendmance Sebastian and play Legacy post game, you get banter indicating that Sebastian and Hawke had their chaste marriage offscreen. Nobody knows what's going to happen in regards to Starkhaven, friend or rivalry wise, that's future DLC territory.
