Which would follow from Hepler's short story, where Elthina only wants him to choose the Chantry for the right reasons. Arguably, his reasons are not quite clear to him in Act 3, til after quest. beliefs.Ashara wrote...
I don't think that Elthina encourages him to abandon the Chantry. I think she only wants him to find out whether he really has a vocation to religious life. It is not a good idea to be ordered if you don't have a religious vocation
You guys have all got me thinking the last few days, tho. I'd never really thought about what he would do if you friendmanced him and he was ready to commit himself (and YOU) to the Chantry, but then Chantry goes boom and then, say, you let Anders live. It seems like he's storming off to Starkhaven, come hell or high water; so does that then change his mind about the Chantry? Threatening death and destruction on Kirkwall doesn't really seem... consistent with his vows.
Interesting. Here I'd figured he had finally gotten his indecisiveness out of system, but then he basically flip flops again. Or, maybe the tragedy crystalizes his thinking and makes him even more decisive... it's just that all roads now lead to being Prince?

I think we have to keep in mind that Sebastian says this in the heat of the moment. He just lost his home and his surrogate mother.
Now I'm not saying that he won't do it (there's no way I can), but I wouldn't take what he said in that scene completely at face value.

It seems likely, yes. BioWare like to streamline choices.

I'm sorry, I don't know why, but the way you phrased that made me think of him.
And just to make up for that last picture...

Maker's breath, I LOVE that armor...

True, I totally agree. I don't think tht he's really interested in actually murdering innocents, but he seems primed to do ... something. I suppose my point being more that he seems likely to head back to Starkhaven, especially now that the Chantry is gone. So, it could be Bioware directing us towards a more singular outcome for a DLC ... altho he could still Chantry-bound if you kill Anders I suppose... so not quite as simplifying as I was thinking.Chignon wrote...

I don't think he's meant to go on a RAMPAGE or anything. More so since the more you interact with him, the more you realize he's not just a zealot. To devolve into zealotry would be...out of character, at least.
Considering how many time my Hawkes fly off the handle and whack everything with a sword until they're dead, Sebastian's running to Starkhaven and raising an army is on par with Hawke. I mean...he's a prince, he has a city-state and army...and he's angry. What else is he suppose to do?

Inappropriate comparisons? Well, who has the most outrageous belt collection?

This is my point, which apparently I'm not making well. I'm not saying that he's a zealot or going crazy or OOC, it's that - similar to Hawke or, say, even himself earlier in the game - he's perhaps not going to go find a quiet cloister and pray in that case, regardless of whether he's rivaled or friended.Jackalope wrote...

edit: This is just speculation on my part, since who knows what he does afterwards, I just think it would be interesting if, in the non-kill-Anders ending, he might end up on the rival-become-Prince path anyway.
Now I guess I'll go back to lurking...

No, stay. It's nice to read about different views on what is probably one of the most important scenes in the game.

I just want to say that one my first playthrough, I romanced Anders. Second playthrough, I romanced Fenris. And now on my third playthrough, I'm romancing Sebastian (all of them have been friendship).
I just got to the part where he proposes, and, even tho it's a chaste marriage, it made me giddy.
No part of Anders or Fenris romances made me that giddy. Yay Sebastian!

For a semi-romance option, Sebastian's "I will offer you no less than a prince," line is swoon-worthy.

I always saw my warrior Lady Hawke as someone who's been so caught up with protecting her family (trying to anyway) and helping the city, that she hasn't given romance any thought. So I'd say she's due for a good swooning.
"Maker, what was that!? Did I...did I just swoon? I did, didn't I? It's been so long, I've forgotten what it's like. Be ready to catch me, Varric, I'm about to do it again!" *thud*
...But yeah, "semi romance" might be a good way of putting it. I can't help be irritated when people criticize Sebastian's romance when there's not one to be had. At least not one so significant as to hold it against his character. Nobody holds such things against Varric or Aveline, even though you can still flirt with them; the only difference is Sebastian is receptive.
You might as well say,
"Sebastian didn't do too well in that race. Really fell behind the others."
"Yeah, maybe because Sebastian broke his leg and needed to use crutches. At least he tried! Still surprised they even let him in. You really think Fenris would have done any better if HE had crutches? Don't think so."
For a "semi romance" though, all things considered...not too bad, I think. There's room for it to keep growing, at least.
I do also agree with BubbleDncr's sentiment, though...even if a chaste marriage isn't my ideal, "You mean the world to me," and "Nothing will come between us," are sticky sweet.

That's true, my Hawke is big on doing her duty...well, heck, no wonder she's a Sebastian girl.

I take it back. I can see her in the middle of Act III, dropping her giant sword to the ground, panting, "Andraste, did I...just...kill...a high dragon?" And then falling into the nearest archer's arms.
And hey, sometimes the good guy/bad girl combo actually works. And sometimes the good guy still surprises. Exhibit A...
(Oh course, you have to imagine what led up to this scene. Somehow Isabela gives Sebastian Hawke's diary and he reads journal notes like 'He didn't even off to go to the Deep Roads with us' and 'Maker, I just hit on a priest.' And maybe a fight with Anders at the Hanged Man during Varric's birthday. Yeah. Take note, Bioware.

It's still less annoying than the 'omg zealot' opinions. And I like visiting the other parts of the forum. I just have a thing for underdogs and dark horses.
What sucks with Dragon Age compared to Mass Effect is that it's not one hero's story. Tali and Garrus appear in ME1, amaze everyone, and they're made into love interest for Shepard in ME2. I'm sure Kasumi can be one for ME3 (and I'm sure my kid brother will call me as soon as he finds out). Shepard will have a least three games for him/herself to develop and grow, and today's buddy might become tomorrow's romance option.
I kind of feel Dragon Age should go a little more 'out there' with the romances, since it seems each hero (Warden, Hawke) really only has one shot. We don't have a Shepard option with the companions. I doubt my Queen Cousland would have cheated on Alistair for Nat, but hey, make it an option. Heck, I might have a Warden who didn't romance anyone in DAO just to have a shot at Nat (pun intended). There's little chance for Sebastian, or any DA2 companion, becoming a DA2 companion or love interest in DA3. Just go ahead and drop the other shoe.
