I don't know about MotA, but in Legacy, Bethany is whining to Sebastian (rivalmanced or non-romanced) about how she'll never be respected or loved because she's a Warden/Circle Mage, and Sebastian, nice guy that he is, compliments/flirts with her. If Hawke friendmanced Sebastian, Bethany acts jealous of their marriage. She doesn't do this with any other character. What's annoying is that Hawke practically has to jump through hoops and eat fire, practically being a one-woman circus, to get attention from Sebastian, and he gives Bethany attention with barely any prodding.

I think 'whining' is a little too strong a word, honestly. She does come across slightly more bitter in a warden-Bethany playthrough, but that's understandable, and in neither situation does she do anything close to whining. I went through legacy with both versions and a romanced Sebastian, and honestly I thought it was kind of cute, especially in the Circle-Bethany option, where it's more obvious that she feels that being a mage made her the cause of the Hawke family's pre-lothering constant moving around, and Sebastian more-or-less reassures her that there's nothing inherently wrong with being born a mage, despite what most Templars or representatives of the chantry would have you believe.

She spends all her days either locked in the gallows with increasingly crazy templars or hunting down darkspawn in taint infested tunnels while suffering terrible nightmare. So it's nice for a her to have a handsome man compliment her. Give her a break.

Huh, I got the "Lucky ****" scene from Seb and Beth in MOTA. After Legacy thought I was in a rivalmance (told her I was just interrupting). After I... uh, ended my last relationship and got the Gallows speech from Seb.

So either Bethany's comment comes from any 'mance, or my game flags are so bugged it has... well, it has gone in my favor. *Fluttershy yay* I hope it never fixes if the latter is the case, my head canon is quite nice (and bittersweet).

Just finished Mark of the Assassin with my character Robyn who is rivalmancing Sebastian. She has gone there after ending both DA2 and Legacy and has taken Sebastian (of course!) and Bethany with her. I've heard 2 banters about the romance with Sebastian:

* first one between Bethany and Sebastian. Robyn asked them to find another entrance to the castle. Before meeting them again There is a cutscene where Bethany says something like "We are lost again. This is a maze. I wish I was in the Deep Roads and ..." Then Sebastian smiles at her and Bethany says "You are very lucky, sister"

* second one between Sebastian and Robyn:. Sebastian says something about the Qun, that they may not be so bad after all. Then Robyn asks "Are you going to leave me for the Qun?". And Sebastian answers: "Never!" :wub:

So, it seems the game recognises rivalmancing as a true romance, after all

Very funny also waht Sebastian says about sneaking out with a girl during one wyvern hunt when he was young

No, I can confirm this. Bethany comments on the rivalmance. Carver, so far, doesn't.

  I ALWAYS get "Paw prints!!!  I told him not to sit on the bed!" referring to the dog.  Are you sure you're hearing it correctly, or is this another thing I've missed out on...

Yeah, you're right, whining isn't the right word, but I get a little fed up with Warden!Bethany. She's extremely bitter and always directs it at Hawke, like she blames Hawke. I think she's forgetting that if Hawke hadn't sought out the Wardens, Bethy would be dead. And my Hawke loves her sister too much to just kill her. I guess I think of Bethany like I do my younger sister: I love her to pieces, but I want to slap some sense into her.

I'm loving the dialogue in MotA, even though I wish Sebastian had more. Even in the Bethany/Sebastian cutscene when they're going to find Tallis/Hawke, he doesn't say anything, just gives this smile that turned me to goo , and then Bethany's like "Sister... you lucky b*tch."  Why yes, yes I am.

Why not? Hawke has Fenris, Anders, Merril and Isabela to drool over as well as Seb.. So Bethany thinks Sebastian is hot, so what? Why is it such a big deal? He's just being kind to his friend's little sister. It's not as if it'll ever go anywhere.

I have no problem with Bethany liking Sebastian.  I think it fits with her character more than, for instance, her falling for Anders, Fenris, or Isabela.  I personally, however, would like some recognition for rivalry relationships, even if it meant seeing Hawke get a little jealous of Bethany flirting with him.

Why do people get so defensive about stuff like this?  It doesn't mean I suddenly don't like Bethany if I'd like to see some Hawke/Sebastian rivalry flirting.

We do get some recognition for the rivalry relationship in MotA, Teen. It's the same scene for both paths, but at least we got something.
It's a shame that only Bethany comments on it, though. I would've loved to hear a banter between Sebastian and Carver.

That's great!  I agree with you about Carver, I would have loved to see his belligerence applied to that situation.

 I tried flirting with Tallis with a friendmanced Sebastian in the party, but he didn't comment on it. I really think that's weird, considering the fact that we are married

No problem.  I honestly like Bethany, she's the sweetest and most genuine party member in either game.  And she's the only uncorruptable mage in the entirety of Kirkwall.  She deserves some happiness.

I just would have liked a bit more with Sebastian, so the idea of pointing any competition in the direction of other attractive males seemed funny.
