Ok, first off, great game, but i am going to compare it to DAO
Main Character:
DAO i felt was more compelling, after 10 minutes you were trying to stop an evil that was more destructive than anything else going on in the world. in fact, blood magic was welcomed in the grey wardens due to demons didn't have the potential that the blight had. I couldn't wait to see what i would have to do so the world could be free of this curse.
DA2 was a bit lacking in this.. although it did make up for it a bit with the story telling cutscenes. It kind of made me want to know what was going to happen even more than wanting to stop it.
Quests:
DAO was a bit lacking on the side quests, they made me feel like i was grinding gold and xp. It just took me away from the game. However, some of the side quests just felt epic... when i found out i was going to kill flemith i started freakin out and bought all kinds of temp buffs, made sure my equip was up to par, and got mentally ready. i never fealt this in DA2 to be honest... The main quests on the other hand were 10x better, i fealt as if i knew a whole world rather than just a city.
DA2's side quests fit much nicer into the gameplay... i didn't go randomly into the woods to take a hunter's job, wasn't delivering letters to 50 different people, they all fit in very nicely into the whole "mercenary" thing. The main quests on the other hand, they fealt cramped. I am in 1 city with like 10 different areas trying to stop an epic war that will kill thousands of people. I stick my nose where it doesn't belong as a peasant and noone seems to mind just because i have a bow?
Companions:
DAO had some colorful and unique characters, only one i didn't like was alister while engaged in a romance. With the level of customization options, i fealt more proud of my tank than i did my main character most of the time. It was simply amazing. However, i read another article i have to agree with, the limitless talking to them was a waste of programming, they'd say useless things over and over that didn't even accomplish character depth.
DA2's lack of companion customization got to me at first, but after a couple play throughs, i realized that im almost always proud of how awesome Hawk is. this actually aloud you to focus on your character more and stratagize how to kill something with the limits you have. I miss being able to completely equip my companions, but at the same token... you now can't have 100% magic resistance on your companion tank with the same skills you would have used. Hawk is now unique. As far as the conversation goes, every time i do get to talk to my companions, it lets me get to know them better, no wasted grinding for approval. Most of the companions in the game aren't as cool as DAO though, in fact, outside of a couple, they're kinda lame imho.
Gameplay:
DAO's combat system was a little flawed, but amazin considering they were the first game (at least from my experiance) to get the "multiple playable characters" combat down right. the auto tactics were solid (not perfect), but the pause option aloud you to fill in the blanks easily. The one thing that i truely liked better is the lack of random spawns, you had to figure out the best way to enter the room and kill everything off. The difficulty was sub-par, but it was just a s*** load of fun.
DA2's combat system is awesome outside of the random spawns, this did however add to the difficulty of the game, managing aggro was a bit more challenging this time around. i think there should've been a more solid mix between the 2 of these systems. The rush in auto-attack on melees was awesome, how quick rouges could turn around in combat was wicked and the fact that mages didn't need to be casting to contribute to damage really helped the game. I would like to see further differences in the auto attacks in the future though, but great first step.
Starting The Journey:
this i will make quick... i'd rather you focus on other areas of the game than come up with 6 different starting scenarios that are overwith in 10 minutes personally, so good job with that.
Overall
As far as the gameplay i'd like to see a system that combined these 2 games next time around, i want to feel like im invading a house like in dao, but i don't want to grab aggro and it to be easy after that. how to solve this? im not really sure, but bioware is a good to go company and im sure they'll think of something if they try. The characters... unique, unique, unique... your creating a world and the best you could come up with is a drunk pirate or a drama queen mage? DAO showed me that you can do better, so please next time, don't rush the personalities.
Honestly, great game... truely. there will always be bad things to say about a game and outside of the bugs, i've said most of them, but you guys did an amazing job considering the time restraints.
just throwing out my 2 cents as a review
