Good class to end up with only Garrus/Tali as survivors?

Quick and dirty question. I'm planning a playthrough where Shepard pretty much only trusts his old friends/squad, hates the new guys, blah blah blah, end result is that only Garrus and Tali will survive. What would be a good Shepard build to complement them, assuming there's still stuff to do and DLC to finish in the aftermath? Would prefer either Sentinel or Vanguard as those are the two classes I haven't either played through or have a specific playthrough planned. Or does it not really matter that much?

It doesn't.

^Yep, in a nutshell.

Though it you have any strategy preference, might be worth considering how to work with that squad for maximum fun (subjective of course).

Fair enough. Was just thinking more in terms of not being screwed over down the line in terms of defense stripping or whatever.

"Never fear, my faithful turian and quarian allies! We will prevail over anything that comes through those doors!"
"Shepard, those are Collectors with barriers and we don't have Warp."
"... well crap."

Suppose Reave would take care of that, though. :P

Do you have all the DLC?

I'd do a biotic heavy Assault Sentinel with the Mattock and Stasis, Throw and Warp to compensate for Tali and Garrus's fragilness and lack of biotics.

Plus with tali's long cooldown in Drone, you can use Tech Armour to reset your squadmates cooldowns (not very well known tip).

For warp stripping, you can get warp ammo. Garrus has overload and Tali has energy drain. Both have some sort of cc in drone/concussive shot, give Garrus incisor rifle, if you have it, because he rapes with it and Tali gets geth shotgun.

Go with a Vanguard and forget that you even have squadmates.

Yeah, Vanguards and (Assault) Sentinels don't need squadmates at all. Besides, Tali and Garrus are great squadies - shouldn't be a problem no matter the class.

I have been playing as a Soldier with Grunt and Zaeed on every mission nonloyalty. My bonus power is Tungsten ammo. Thus, I have no biotics or tech and this is on a Insanity NG+ file. I have wrecked the entire game with almost the minimalist of efforts. Hell I can count the legitimate number of times I died on one hand; not so if I count the bugged deaths. :P

Suffice it to say you can gun through the game with relative ease using any offensive oriented class and your squad is nigh irrelevant. I love using Grunt and Zaeed, both of whom have been quite worthwhile but I could easily accomplish everything without them. So play whichever you fancy, although an Adept or Engineer would have the most difficult. Vanguard is your best bet from a lore perspective, while a Soldier or Sentinel is far less problematic for Insanity.

You know this sounds like it might be interesting. I've kind of had a similar idea of Shepard not trusting the Cerberus folk, and going this route. Sounds like it might be a quick play through too! Having played a Vanguard through, and am in the middle of a long Bastion Sentinel run and of the two I MUCH prefer Vanguard. The community isn't joking, you can literally forget your team and just smash through. Add the Geth Shotgun and you start to feel like a hot knife slicing through helpless butter pretty quick.

Garrus has tech and combat powers, Tali is tech all the way. If you want to accent your squad's strengths I'd say Engineer or Infiltrator. If you want a more balanced squad I'd go Adept or Vanguard, since there are no biotics in your arsenal.

When I play a Claymore Vanguard or Shotgun Assault Sentinel and don't play without squadmates I usually don't care who I take with me and what they are doing. For me personally the Claymore Vanguard is the fastest killer in the game. I clear rooms with it faster than with any other class. Maybe a Widow/Mattock soldier does superb damage but I usually go Revenant because Widow/Mattock is just totally out of balance and also I hate to go wandering around after a battle to pick up clips for those weapons. And while the damage might be better I'm still faster with a Vanguard (sometimes just because you skip spawnpoints of additional enemies).Totally awesome class. It needs to suit your playstyle however...

Sentinel Shepards bring out the most in Tali, using Tech Armor to instantly recharge her cooldown. Tali's Combat Drone becomes a viable power when coupled with a Sentinel.

Wait... Tech Armor recharges Tali's cooldown? Am I missing something here?

I don't remember reading that in the ingame description ever. Then again, I don't really play sentinel. But that would make Tali a lot better for sure.

It came as a surprise to a lot of us a few months back. It made me reevaluate my placement of Tali in the sub-par tier of squadmates.

Yeah, when Shepard activates Tech Armor, all cooldowns are reset. You can basically spam Drones if you are Sentinel and take Legion and Tali with you. From what the devs said, it was an early feature that was to be removed later, but they forgot about it.
