No we are having a civil conversation but there is really nothing that anyone is going to say thats going to convince me DA2 is a good game. I have good tastes and intuition and know what I want. To be honest Im done with the DA series all togther. I dont really care anymore what happens with it.

You should make this a preface. Such things render discussion mostly futile.

The only thing I have to accept is that EA, is destroying Bioware.

While I agree that EA have indeed had a negative impact on Bioware in some areas, thats not what this topic is about..... its about how dragon age is aprently like a JRPG..... which it is not...

there are a few things i agree with, like the stats only being good for combat. i miss having the "cunning" or "threaten" dialouge options, but i have to disagree overall that da2 is a jrpg.

characters and plot were too enjoyable for me to classify it as one :)

A problem to you, perhaps. But it's not a problem to me, and, more importantly, it's not a problem to the dev team.

I meant it's a problem lore wise, silly.  :P

I'm worried lore is going out the window.

I'm also unsettled by the implications of the new design for existing characters such as Zevran.  How am I supposed to accept that characters like Zevran exist in the Dragon Age universe, and then accept that this is how ALL ELVES look now.  I just can't reconcile that.  I'm all for improving the graphics, the race designs, making them a tad more distinctive, but I would like there to be some sence of consistancy from game to game, so that in my mind, I can still see the Dragon Age world as one coherent whole, where these bits and peices from games past, present, and future will piece together in the tapestry of the world's lore and ongoing history.

same way Games Workshop evolved over the years, entire races where changed in look or left out, its part of role play, you accept what the lore masters write after all its there world, I personelly didnt find the change to elves visually a problem, now if it was something like what Blizzard did with the Draenei aka ignoring part of the lore they themselves created to allow them to come into play then yes there would be a point of argument, but the elves in dragon age are still the elves of dragon age.... they just look more like giraffes now

Yes, because JRPGs have the monopoly on moving around.

Don't bring KRPG here, especially MMOs. No, just no. Korean doesn't allow you to bring it here.

you know I agree the animations aka the unrealistically fast past combat, the moves where hawke dives into the air and slams down with a massive two hander or teleports behind and X slashes from behind are indeed a very Asian RPG style....

however Jade Empires had a similair system and still is not a JRPG and still never will..... again i refere to how the game plays out and how you feel while playing it.... I play ALOT of RPG's and can tell where they come from simply by the way they feel when they play... do I ever look at dragon age and think JRPG never..... do I ever look at Demons Souls and think WRPG never..... the combat feels just that way.... its hard to describe it just is JRPG's feel more restrictive and less responsive, like im queing up a line of attacks, WRPG's always feel here and now when I pause a game and then unpause everything I have set is done at once, it feels like my attacks are hitting and making contact with an enermy not just taking down some set HP... they really play completely diffrently

That doesn't make any sense.  Bioware tells us they are creating a world, a universe, where these stories in different games are supposed to intertwine.  How is it that they are simply allowed to throw out lore and make massive design changes at a whim?

See, problem is, I'm being asked to accept that the elves I've met and created in the previous game all look 'like giraffes' now.  And no, I won't accept that.  The change is too severe for me to reconcile.

I can't really see Zevran, as he is in DA:2, as a sexy assassin.  Everything I imagine from his backstory is marred by this.  I really hope they put a toolset out so that moders might be able to let us change them back to something more like they are supposed to be.  I mean, really, I don't hate the new design it's self, but it would be so much better as a genetic variation within the race, or even the result of experimentation done by blood mages upon their slaves.  (In fact, I think that would be pretty awesome)  I don't have any problem with Fenris looking the way he looks.  But why should every male elf in the world have to be that much like him now?  Especially since it doesn't suit so many of the elves from before.

I was referring to the hyperactive, ridiculous combat, oversized weapons, anime elf look, armor style...

Maybe Jrpg is the wrong word here, "too much eastern influence" then.

because you know its true. the combat is more of a MMO type quality rather then a true rpg.

Well we're living in an increaseingly globalized world. JRPGS and WRPGS are going to influence each other until they reach a balance.

Then we can all complain about other things. Like gameplay, voice actors, or Fenris's hair.

because you know its true. the combat is more of a MMO type quality rather then a true rpg.

Now you're just arguing semantics . . . what right do you have to say what is and is not a true RPG?

When a lot of people say JRPG they are actually thinking Dynasty Warriors.

Many JRPGs still play out turn based, about as far from DA2 as you can get.

I wouldn’t call it a JRPG, but I would definitely say it has Eastern undertones.
