I'm in Act 2 and having a lot of trouble getting started with Merril romance. Even after bringing her into the Fade and helping her get the knife she needed for the ancient mirror, every time I visit her she just says "By the dread wolf, my house is so messy!"

Do I have to buy the gift for her at the Dalish merchant in order to activate romance?

Also, I accidentally got into a romance with Anders by choosing the wrong dialogue option - do I need to somehow break up with him before I can romance Merril?

Anders said he was worried the templars were after him and he wanted to stay at my place. The options were either (a) "Sure, you're welcome anytime" which I thought was friendly and not romance, or (B) "you want to move in together?" which I thought was the romance option. Unfortunately I picked option A and he moved in.

Now all the other characters keep talking about him like he is a serious boyfriend or something. How do I get out of that without losing his Friendship bonus ability?

Anyone successfully romanced Merril?

Do you need to spend gold to buy the gift from the Dalish merchant?

1. Flirt with her
2. Get her Rivalry or Friendship to 50% or over
3. Do her personal quest
4. Visit your house in the evening during Act 2.

You ask a guy he can make refuge in your house, suddenly he thinks you're dating. Anders is such a desperate man.

Quick question...if you sleep with Merril but do not ask her to move in, does that end any chance at romance with her?

I tried this, but it didn't work (unless there is more to her personal quest than getting the knife from Keeper Marathari). Everytime I visit Merril in the evening during Act 2 she just complains about her house being messy.

Maybe i have to somehow kick Anders out of my house before I can romance Merril? (I already told him I need to be alone after All the Remains quest, and I haven't seen him there anymore.)

Not *her* house. *Your* house.

Oh.

Yeah, I don't think you can shack up with more than one.

I visit my house frequently, but Merril is never there. She hasn't asked to move in either.

If Anders is in your house....I think it's too late for Merrill.

If you agree to Anders request to stay at your place, it screws up all the other romances?

Well Anders and Merrill romances close off any other chances to romance someone else.
And I'm curious if Anders can enter/stay at your house without being romanced.

That blows. I guess I'll try starting over from the end of Act 1 after I beat the game.

If you want to romance Isabella and Merril, you need to romance Isabella first, then?

Merril isn't easy. You have to wait for Act 2 for a real romance to initiate, but can begin flirting with her as early as Act 1.

Get your Friendship or Rivalry with her to 50%.

Always ding a heart option when available.

Get both of her gifts.

Ask her to move in.

Sealed deal.

Merril is your new main squeeze.

I think I slept with Isabella after the ship in a bottle, then Merril after agreeing to give her the knife. I know one of the funny quotes from Isabella is to not let Merril hear that when talking to her in the hanged man. Of course I finished the game with Isabella standing at my writing desk with a dobble arrow over her head and Merril looking down at her from the second floor.
