I probably wont have videos for a few days. Between RL craziness right now, soloing, and me trying to figure out how to edit videos, it'll probably be 3 or 4 days.

I want non-boss fights. Some "normal" fights are much harder than actual bosses, which can be cheesed with kiting and line of sight. Particularly fights involving multiple archers and assassins who one hit kill mages on NM and spam potions (as well as stealing your own.)

I just finished the Reiner fight solo annnnnnnnnnnnd........ forgot to turn fraps on. That fight is a MAJOR pain as a solo mage, so now I have to go back and do it.:crying::crying::crying::crying: It's a good example of how to deal with assassins when you cant kill his adds quick, or solo pull him. So I definitely need to get it recorded.

Archers aren't much of a problem, but a few assassin fights I have involve multiple archers so it'll be a 2-in-1 thing.

I am stuck on:
Lowtown at night: Last group of archers that give you the base location.Have about 5 left and when I pull the "boss" one he always rapes me. This is preventing me from finishing Aveline's quest line, first sacrifice, and some other quest I have to pass them to get to.
Magistrates Orders Dungeon: The poison shooting spider kills me and I have been unable to locate a rune of nature resist/nature resist gear.
Ironbark Clearing: I think I can solo it but at a huge cost of potions from killing the Bolters.
Harbor at Night/Secret Passage thing. Assassin keeps stealth spamming me.
2 ship captains meeting. They seem to insta backstab me when out of stealth after evading the stealth backstab.

Going to try doing the Wounder Coast Winters and Tal V fight next.

Record the Brekker fight, which is the fight where you stop the guy from stealing your shipments.


It has 4 assassins, archers, and some melee guys.  The problem is you get stuck in a cutscene placing you right in the middle.  It can be a brutal fight with an entire party when all 4 assassins are backstabbing and evading.

Jeven would be fun to try to solo with a mage too. I soloed him with a warrior and it took like 10 pots, his single backstab takes off about 3/4 of my HP. I'd like to see mage survive it.

Gloxgasm, i have one question - how did you kill that first darkspawn emmisary in prologue? did you put any points in strength for fortitude? because this freak lock me with his shots in recovery animation till death. And i cant see way out, exept rise fortitude.

I went +2 str first level up and then another +2 at level 5 I think. I started my solo game after the prologue though. I think the 6 bolters + emisarry would be impossible otherwise since 1 bolter almost kills you. I could be wrong though.

I think assassins stop using abilities when it is just them on the field. Anyone else notice something similar?

That's my point.  You're full of bull**** and there's no way you're running on nightmare as a solo mage.

That said, I just got the staff of parlathan and it has made my own solo mage playthrough significantly easier.  Even still, I sincerely doubt that you are doing this on nightmare.  I don't care how good you say you are, I'm not stupid, and I'm definitely not a noob to gaming.

I dont doubt people are doing this, but what I really care about is how. Everyone who's saying they can do this either doesn't have Bioware-standard profiles for their characters or those profiles are broken.

Any commentary on how you changed your build over time would also be much appreciated.

I had it listed in 1 of my posts but here it goes:
Lvl 5: Winters Grasp, Cone of Cold, Sprit Bolt, Walking Bomb, Chain Lightning (+2 str from default/15/15 con/wil rest magic) (respec pot)
Lvl 6: Tempest and Improved Spirit Bolt (21gold potion) (Add 2 more Str, con/wil/mag as needed)
Lvl 7: Force Mage/Fist of the Maker
Lvl 8: Unshakeable + Rock Armor (27G potion, Respeck here to Free 4 Str)
Lvl 9: Stone First
Planned at 10: Upgraded Stone Fist

Actually, it does not make much sense to share something, or rather to claim something, then not wanting/willing to back it up, prove it. Well, maybe it does, but it is like believing in flying spaghetti monster.

That would only be true if his claims weren't testable. They are, and he's given us much of the data we need to reproduce it. 

P.S., You denigrate both the topic of theistic belief and the subject at hand by comparing the two. Hit yourself on the nose with a rolled up newspaper for me; would you?

Build is all primal up to 8, at 8 grab force mage stuff, then at 9 grab Unshakeable. At 10 I recommend going into the spirit tree, but my opinion at this point is subject to change.

Staves are Staff of Parlathan(fire rune as well), Magister's Scythe.

Get 25 in magic, 20 in willpower, then you can either go 2pt magic 1pt con, or 1pt magic 2pt con, or if you're really struggling go 3 pt con.

I grabbed the electricity resist hood from the vendor in hightown. Robes, gloves, boots, neck, belt are all DLC. I always stock up on +attack gear, since if I ever find myself in a situation where I'm getting a lot of glancing blows, swapping gear with +attack helps a lot.

Carry electricity resist runes with you, you get the pattern from the mage goods place in the Gallows. Put armor runes in all armor slots, then when you start fighting profanes, switch to electricity resist.

I did the prologue solo.

I got Stone Fist+Rock Armor in the prologue, and to kill the emmisary, you just keep running and only stop to use Stone Fist. Having a health pot will pretty much guarantee you'll kill him, without one it's all about line of sighting well.

As for the Darkspawn archers, you have to just barely get in LoS of one, and auto attack it down. Real boring, since if you move just 1 tiny inch too far, you might die.

But soloing the prologue is possible, I did it in around 40 minutes.

Everything anyone claims about this game is "testable" to those who own it, but a video of it would still be a much faster and more definitive way to verify what he's done, his strat, etc . But he says he's not in it to prove anything and that's his choice. I'd still like to see a video.

P.S. It was an offhand comment that obviously upset you. You should get over it.

Not that I've noticed.   I think they just run out of stamina and potions. 


Also you may wanna put you build in the op sense it will get barried anywhere else.  Also you could probably use xfire or wegame to shoot videos.  They are free programs that will upload for you.  They may not be the  best qwuality but at least you have soemthing.

Wegame seemed to work better than xfire when I shot vids for Origins.

Yes, that would work if all claims were equal, but they are not.

When someone says: I've tested it and it does not work.

The reply is: Learn to play...

If we consider all claims as equal, and if we do not test for ourselves, then I would say it is fair to conclude that we do not know. Anything else is blind, unsupported, faith.

I have mentioned it before, but I will say it again. It is actually impossible to prove anything in this game as it does not provide any data, namely: Contribution to party damage and Number of kills from DAO. So yes, anyone can claim anything, but that swings both ways. Trying to prove one's position is Sisyphus work.

I play solo but not the Prologue or I play solo and do not use the dog .. well, that is nice and dandy. I am the second from the left on Hanoi Team.

Have you cleared the final group of archers in lowtown night? I can't seem to kill the remaining super archer. I can do a weak+super pull and still get slaughtered at lvl9. Just hit 10 but didn't retry yet.

Yes, that's why I always kill the adds around them first if I cant pull one solo, makes life easier. If they stealthed and you killed all the adds, and they didn't hit you, they still have an ability queued and it's always backstab. It wont 1 shot you, but it hurts nonetheless.

I haven't tried yet, but I'm thinking my full primal build will soak up enough damage. I'll let you know how it turns out later on today.

I am doing this for fun and sharing what I've found with others. I'll happily discuss what I've done for any encounter in depth but as of now, I have no desire to film anything. Accept it or don't. You can always go and try it for yourself

Honestly, uploading those huge and boring solo vids to Youtube was the most difficult, lengthy, and painful part of soloing Act I. I've decided to change my policy for Acts II and III: I will post only short clips of key phases in major battles.
