If we consider all claims as equal, and if we do not test for ourselves, then I would say it is fair to conclude that we do not know. Anything else is blind, unsupported, faith.

I have mentioned it before, but I will say it again. It is actually impossible to prove anything in this game as it does not provide any data, namely: Contribution to party damage and Number of kills from DAO. So yes, anyone can claim anything, but that swings both ways. Trying to prove one's position is Sisyphus work.

I play solo but not the Prologue or I play solo and do not use the dog .. well, that is nice and dandy. I am the second from the left on Hanoi Team.


You're really trying to make something out of nothing. This thread is to help those that are interested in mage soloing. I'm working on getting videos up, learning to edit videos is taking up a lot of my time. Whatever you want to be skeptical of, go for it. 

I'm going to include normal mob groups, so there would only be room for question on the validity of my solo playthrough in the most paranoid of people.

Make sure you have another camera shooting over your shoulder so they can see you pressing keys and the screen. Plus I'd have at least 2 country and 1 state government official there to notarize all posts.

That aside, I am stuck. Everywhere I go kills me. Might have to respec.

Indeed, it's frustrating that he's not providing videos. But that's a favor we'd ask of him, one that would be nice. Hardly a necessity. 

Invoking (or upholding) the idea that this person is making faith-based claims is wrong. That's a big stick to swing around, and I feel compelled to call out pseudo-intellectual bull**** when I see it.

P.S. It was an offhand comment that obviously upset you. You should get over it.


Don't mind me. I do this for the sport of it. Sorta like big game hunting, but for people who use fallacious arguments.

Build is all primal up to 8, at 8 grab force mage stuff, then at 9 grab Unshakeable. At 10 I recommend going into the spirit tree, but my opinion at this point is subject to change.

Staves are Staff of Parlathan(fire rune as well), Magister's Scythe.

Get 25 in magic, 20 in willpower, then you can either go 2pt magic 1pt con, or 1pt magic 2pt con, or if you're really struggling go 3 pt con.

I grabbed the electricity resist hood from the vendor in hightown. Robes, gloves, boots, neck, belt are all DLC. I always stock up on +attack rings/neck/belts, since if I ever find myself in a situation where I'm getting a lot of glancing blows, swapping gear with +attack helps a lot.

Carry electricity resist runes with you, you get the pattern from the mage goods place in the Gallows. Put armor runes in all armor slots, then when you start fighting profanes, switch to electricity resist.

I did the prologue solo.

I got Stone Fist+Rock Armor in the prologue, and to kill the emmisary, you just keep running and only stop to use Stone Fist. Having a health pot will pretty much guarantee you'll kill him, without one it's all about line of sighting well.

As for the Darkspawn archers, you have to just barely get in LoS of one, and auto attack it down. Real boring, since if you move just 1 tiny inch too far, you might die.

But soloing the prologue is possible, I did it in around 40 minutes.

If you have any questions about how I'm doing certain things, questions about how I can take on a certain boss, or anything else related to mage soloing, feel free to ask! I'm just trying to keep this thread on topic to help and/or entertain others(when I get videos up).

Primal is just so strong as a solo, I can tank a ridiculous amount of damage with 0 added points in con. Give it a whirl!

What I said about god was directed at the spaghetti monster quote and nothing else in this thread. Faith is essentially a belief in something that cannot be proven, which is exactly what belief in god or gods is. I'm not quite sure how you could debate that.

Again, I am not trying to say that any claims about the game made in this thread are faith based. I'll stop derailing the thread now so you can stop misunderstanding what I'm trying to say.

I am regretting not taking full primal first as much as I have loved spirit bomb/ice.

I killed the super sharp's archer using 4 heal pots and 1-2 mana spamming spirit bolt/fist whenever cooldowns permitted. Huge waste of gold.

Don't really need it as a solo, since you only use 1 person. Just kite his stealth out, or if there's a mob nearby, use chain lightning and it'll break the assassins stealth. If there's no mob nearby, tempest can break his stealth too but it costs more mana and isn't as efficient as kiting or chain lightning.

Pretty much only use tempest for strong-shade-level-stuff, as it usually CC's them on every hit. Boss CC spell. Oh, and the critter level mobs too, tempest kills them in 1-2 hits. Pretty awesome.

Casting time of tempest could get you in a bad spot as well. Been trying a solo mage off and on for about 2 days now. It's not too terrible, but much harder than a rogue would be.

I've gone primal as well to start off (level 8 atm) since normal mercs are immune to ice and the damage of fire spells is lower than auto attack. I'm planning on going for crushing prison and mind blast in the arcane tree instead of spirit.

I'd probably go for Petrify instead.  It never gets blocked.  Just make sure you upgrade it otherwise you give the enemy protection.  Why they designed a spell like that baffles me.  And that protection works.  I didn't realize it at first and then noticed my spells were getting50% less dmg. :blink:


My aoe spells tempest and fire storm are wicked strong now.  I'm basically holdignthe entire party back and just destroying massive groups.

I would imagine once you can get to that point solo, it should be much easier.  The power curve on a mage definitely doesn't go high quickly.

Yeah, not to mention the chance tempest will break sealth is 50/50. It's great for fights not involving assassins though.

Chain lighting + walking bomb combo looks too fun to pass up, but if it doesn't work out like I hope, I'm probably going to grab crushing prison as well.

I'm going to record a mage solo prologue tonight, then spend the next 2 or so days learing to edit & editing videos, so I can get something up. Then I'll head to the deeproads.

Looking forward to seeing that. :-)

Oh, and it seems that Dwarf enemies have high resistance to all magic (in accordance with lore). Bartrand is an elite Dwarf boss and few spells seem to work on him (fully upgraded Cone of Cold does absolutely nothing). He also one-shot kills anyone with <200 Health and is nearly impossible to knock back. :-S

Prologue solo'd again, 40 minutes, 0 deaths(well 1 but it doesn't count because I wasn't paying attention to where I was moving for a second lol). But I have it all recorded from start to finish, now to sleep and learn how to shrink this stuff down and then edit it+youtube.

Warning- when using devconsole to shrink your party to 1 size, Flemeth doesn't show up and you don't see your sibling die, so you have to manually go into devconsole and move yourself to the start of act 1. Nothing changes really, you still get the quest to go to Sundermount.

Walking bomb has served me very well in a lot of fights and I am glad that i picked it up. I have killed myself with it more times then I care to admit. Have an assassin stealth? Walking bomb a small life mob and blow him up! Giant angry group of archers? Not anymore!

Videos coming soon... I'm an idiot and edited the character making thing out of my prologue video(just chose default), which shows I selected Nightmare. So now I have to either go back and do it over, or edit it in somehow. My original plan was to get videos up on Weds, but as soon as I finish the last bit of editing it's going up on youtube today.

Fist and Chain Lighting, the extra 2 hits are nice. I only use petrify to CC assassins while I kill his adds.
