Is sebastien actually worth having in a party? I never really saw how he could help a party, for his personal quewsts, he mostly just had to run away again and again...
Sebastien Vael good or bad??

Its a shame that Varric completely outclasses Sebastian in terms of ranged DPS. If only we could spec him into DW maybe he'd be more useful.

Sebastian would be amazing, but Varric's ability to get +65% Attack Speed simply blows anything that Sebastian can do out of the water. There's also the fact that Varric refuses to use anything but Bianca, saving you from having to worry about boosting his stats high enough to equip a good weapon.
Frankly, the only thing that Sebastian has over Varric is his armor; I have no idea why, but the armor Sebastian wears looks amazing.

If anything he might beat out Varric on high hp mobs with his -resistance shot. Also, nothing stops you from bringing him and Varric.

Sebastian is there is you want to micromanage a Backstabbing Archer rogue. Else, Varric is your man if you want an Archer.

Anubis, Sebastian is an archer. He doesn't Dual-Wield.
From what I can tell, his Wounding Arrow does work with Righteous Chain. If it works like I'm reading it, getting 10 shots off for Righteous Chain, then using Wounding Arrow, will drop the Damage Resistance of the enemy hit with it by 45%.
Just from that tidbit, that would probably make Sebastian the best choice for bosses, and Varric the best choice for everyone else.

I prefer Varric's personality.
There's also the bug if you're Sebastian's friend.
There's a point in the game where Sebastian breaks down completely. I felt good about myself and Anders. Probably shouldn't, but that's how it goes.

He has the classic Backtab skill of getting criticals from the back, hence Backstabbing Archer.swk3000 wrote...

I use Sebastian mainly for Wounding Arrow right before my DW Hawke uses exploding strike on bosses (mark of death doesn't last long enough to use it and get 10 autoattacks in before it expires). +45% damage on an attack that already does 5k dmg? Yes, please. He's also a little less squishy than Varric.

I Still havent found a way to use Sebastian in any setup yet, and the few times i actually bring him he seems to be a bloody aggromagnet.... must be that shiny armor he is rocking.
All in all, Sebastian is poorly thoughout with regards to varric who outclasses Sebastian by miles in every direction, however it could be argued that they made varric a tad overpowered.

He has a working disorienting shot and he goes down a little less easily...

I'll admit, the only time I ever take Seb out other than his companion quests was when I was on my mage and I was going to fight the High Dragon. Two archers, Aveline, and myself for CC/Healing/AoE made the fight a joke in terms of franticness and chaos. That said, Seb STILL died on that fight when the second wave of adds came out. Luckily he took a Life Ward potion beforehand :x

Perhaps this has been pointed out - but I love the nerve of Seb to tell Varric he could give him pointers.

I've been wondering this myself. I just recruited Sebastian in Act 2, but compared to Varric he seems a bit weak. He has a habit of running into melee range and spends most of the battle moving around rather than attacking. The only way to take advantage of his skill tree seems to be to micromanage him for the whole battle, whereas Varric does just fine on his own.
Still, I like having him in the party because his armor has a very cool design.
