Hard, definitely! I don't want to miss out on the tactics required to avoid friendly fire!

If hard shows out to be too easy (which i doubt) I will turn to nightmare mode.

-PC-version-

Interesting posts... just shows how different oppinions everybody has when asking for gaming style :)

Thanks for clarifying the differences of the difficulties.

Nightmare is for me a -must have- . I must know if this can give me the sweat as good ol' Improved Illych, Improved Abazigal, Improved Demogorgon etc. etc. B)

Normal for my first playthrough. Depending on how it goes, perhaps a higher difficulty for the next.

I normally never ever play games on a higher-than-normal difficulty level, but I think I'll step out of character and try "Hard" on DA:O. Also I might try a caster as I normally play warriors or rogues.

I'll be starting on hard, because it's the most 'realistic' choice given the universe, with full friendly fire, and no buffs or debuffs to you or your enemies.

Same reasoning for me.

Possible bump it up to nightmare if I want more challenge.

Definitely normal for me the first time through, quite happy to see how challenging it appeared during the Warden's Quest even on this difficulty though, should be plenty of fun for me.

I was also under the impression that FF is on during normal, or is it reduced somewhat compared to the hard mode?

well i just watched 24 hours of DA:O Gampelay. and let me say, i'm very eager to delve into Normal or hard. when the representatives of "bioware community" actually said that he thought the combat was very much alike the Baldur's Gate combat my expectations for this game just grew another mile.

i'm very thrilled about this.

Hard.Though challange isn't the most important thing I don't want to be able to steamroll through anything either.

Chris Priestly chimes in with his advice, from the thread "Who is starting on Nightmare Difficulty"

Who is staring on Nigtmare difficulty? Idiots, that's who.

I STRONGLY suggest you do not try to play the game on Nightmare to start. It is HARD to play on nightmare. Heck, it is hard to play on normal (some encounters more than others obviously). If you try to start on nightmare you will not have fun trying to learn how the combat works. YOU WILL DIE. LOTS.

If you don't think normal is what you want (yes yes, I'm sure you are much more leet than everyone else) try it on hard first. At least until you get through your origin story where you will have a better idea of the combat basics. Then, if it isn't challenging enough for you, switch to Nightmare.

To put it anotehr way, I have played EVERYTHING in DAO. All plots, all encounters. I know what spells or weapons of abilities to use against which creatures and what to expect around each corner. i STILL die all the time on Nightmare.

In the end it is up to you, but I STRONGLY suggest this is not a good thing to do.

Difficulty Modes are, Casual - Normal - Hard - Nightmare. Enjoy!

I'll go for hard as it's the most realistic. I want a challenge but I hate it when the AI cheats to win. It encourages gimmick play and metagaming which I find very irritating.

Oh, and I'll be playing the pc version.

I think I will start out on Normal and if that is too easy, I'll switch to hard.

Easy/Casual - as others have said, I play RPGs for the story, not the combat. It's a means to an end for me, and while it can be fun, dying constantly isn't fun for me. It just delays the story, and I get frustrated. If I find Casual far too easy, then I'll bump it up to Normal, but I doubt I'll need to do that. I rarely play games above Easy or Normal.

Easy, PC becuase i am shockingly bad at most video games although as most reviews I've read say the only major flaw in the game is the difficulty which can some times be way to easy winning fights in 2-3 moves but also often uber hard even on easy due to sheer numbers so i will be changing diffculty as apropriate if it gets too easy

I've been playing RPGs like this for years and I feel like I'm one of those people who will be very good at handling this combat interface. Even though Normal sounds more challenging than it normally would be in other games, I think I would eventually grow past it and start blowing through the encounters. So I will be starting my game on Hard - and that may make the learning curve a little steeper, but I hope it will keep the game challenging throughout my experience.

If I find it either too frustrating or too easy, I will adjust as necessary.

I usually select the hardest level, and then back down if needed. The goal being to be able to finish the game on the hardest setting.

I heard this game was going to be really hard, even on normal.
So I'm going to start on Nightmare.

I'll be starting off on normal with a warrior since they're often considered the "starter" class in most rpgs.

Lol so many people are talking smack in this thread and they are going to start their game on Nightmare and then go "HMM" and kick it down to Hard or Normal. I just wish I had a spycam on them so I can see them fail.
