>A: Playing the games. This is probably a terrible thing to admit, but it has definitely been the single most difficult thing for me. I came into the job out of a love of writing, not a love of playing games... I'm really terrible at so many things which most games use incessantly -- I have awful hand-eye coordination, I don't like tactics, I don't like fighting, I don't like keeping track of inventory, and I can't read a game map to save my life.

>A: A fast-forward button. Games almost always include a way to "button through" dialogue without paying attention, because they understand that some players don't enjoy listening to dialogue and they don't want to stop their fun. Yet they persist in practically coming into your living room and forcing you to play through the combats even if you're a player who only enjoys the dialogue.

I just say here what I said in that other thread about this. Yesterday I think.

You can skip conservations.
Thus follows that you should also be able to skip combat if you want to.

Some people play rpgs especially for story others for combat.

Well if you guys notice with DA2 you don't get to make any meaningful choices and the choices ou do make have the same outcome. So the writers are trying to turn the storys into a movie or book instead of it being YOUR story like the warden was in origins.

idunno but i think a rpg stops being a rpg when it doesn't have combat, i think they call those adventure games. Shes free to go work for whoever made Blade Runner. Oh wait.

That is as retarded a comment from a "video game" writer as I have ever heard one. Gameplay and narrative have a symbiotic relationship; you cannot develop one in isolation from the other; and if you are not emotionally invested in playing the game it is more difficult to discern whether your writing actually meshes well with the gameplay elements.

I like to whine about lack of quality for DA2 just as much as anyone else, but this is really just ridiculous.

Frankly fast forward putton for combat would have make DA2 much better game for me, because there is just too much of it in the game, and not much else.

Shouldn't writers at least be familiar with games and be able to play them effectively so they can build a story that fits into a video game instead of a movie or book? Maybe it doesn't matter?

The fact that she doesn't enjoy the gameplay of console or PC games hardly means she wants to take away choice. I fail to see how some of you drew such an incredibly arb connection.

Hepler is the one who did the whole Branka/Hespith/Broodmother scenario, correct?

I don't see what the problem is.

Oh wait, games are only to be worked on by other gamers who love games at it's hardest of cores with no interests elsewhere. Otherwise it's casual shovelware ****.

It's the typical response of an artist:

1. Every A list actor hates watching himself on film; most don't even bother to watch movies.
2. Most musicians reputedly turn off the radio when one of their song pops up.

To you, this game is yet another form of consumption; to them, this is their art, their work, their livelihood. Totally different paradigm, kiddo.

No fast forward button if you're playing a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time? That's just silly.

After my first playthrough there is always some dialogue I'd rather not hear/read over and over again.
