wow I thought there would be like 3 more pages at least since I was gone for 5 hours.

Well, this thing is very simple after all and the opposition does not have arguments other than "u must fight in single player RPg" which means actually that you must waste your time doing as much something you might not even like as the devs chose. That of course is insanity.

Incorrect, the developers and debuggers are simply testing specific parts, it's not because it's tedious.

Testing combat code when you only want to test graphics of a castle is counter productive.

I was not talking about play testing. I was talking about the original topic which is "make skip the combat button on next DA".

This idea DOES NOT garner my support.

Sorry.

Make combat better, don't remove it.

Wasted resource allocation.

But what if combat can't be made better because "target audience" thinks it is awesumely fluid, fast, responsive, and just great. If you press a button something awesome happen!

Yet there is debugger feature "runscript remove all hostiles". So the feature is already implemented, it just does not show in game interface.

Then why dont you ask for combat to made better instead of asking to be able to skip it? Why would you buy another game DA2 if you hate the combat that much?

You seem to have your vocabulary in a bunch. We don't have excuses, we have reasons. Reasons that have been given rather eloquently in the course of this thread. I for one tire of the attacks and the "Y U NO LIKE FIGHTING?" butthurt. I also tire of repeating myself.

Lazy? Since when are games supposed to be work? I've always played them because I thought they are supposed to be fun... But maybe I've gotten something wrong there. My bad.

I've always thought that combat in a RPG should be driven by the story/character motivation, not the other way around. I have also posted earlier that if there were different ways to solve conflicts from time to time, I wouldn't want or need the button.

Indeed. Then press the "Launch WarCraft 3 - The Frozen Throne" button and see you all in epic DotA matches.

It´s awesome. 6mb map, and still better and with longer playtime than anything BioWare has ever released:innocent:

Uh... the beautiful thing about options is that I can remove the stuff that irks me in my copy of the game (repetitive, boring, pointless combat), and you can keep it in yours. Everybody is happy. What is so bad about that? Why do you feel the need to tell people how they are supposed to play a game?

And we are talking about a button, not a setting in the options. A button that I can use when a fight gets boring, or if there are too many of them for my taste. I'm quite sure I never said I wanted to remove all combat in a game. And I certainly never said people would have to use it. I would like to. What is it to you?

Many moons ago. There was a game.
This game was called Rise of the Dragon.

The game was a dialogue - point and click adventure game. You could investigate, discover and bribe your way through the game (There wasn't a lot of choice, but there were different outcomes for some things).
At a couple of stages through the game, it turned into a side scrolling shooter. Which relied on traditional button press, twitch gaming ability. It had something different, and something a little special;
If during this side scrolling shooting pieces you died three times, it prompted you to ask if you would like to skip the combat. If you said no, you could keep trying. If you said yes, it would allow you to continue the dialogue, exploration, investigation parts of the game.

Did it diminish the game in anyway?
No.

I have replayed that game countless times over the years...and never once have I continued through the combat sequences.
Indeed, after running through a non modded, non cheated playthrough of ME or DA (For savegame carry over purposes), every playthrough afterwards is a heavily modded or cheated run. Modded and cheated so the combat is over stupidly quickly.
With ME this is the gethsupergun, with DA, its a modded weapon and armour.

Why? Because no matter what combat effort or development goes into BioWare games, I don't give a ****. I play BioWare games for the choice, the story, the character development, to see the outcome of my choices, to tell my story in BioWares narrative.

So yes, I support having a 'skip combat' button. Not because I'm not a gamer, or because I can't do it, or because I suck and will never be able to finish it..but because the combat IS NOT the reason I play BioWare games, and quite frankly. Couldn't care less if it was in their games or not.

For those crying foul, I'm not asking, indeed WE'RE not asking to remove the combat. Just asking for a choice or allowance to play the game HOW we want to play it. If they don't ever do this...it doesn't bother me. If they do, then it will save me lots of time and make my gameplay experience a lot more enjoyable...nobody loses.

I will probably never post in this thread again because I am about to be called or sorts of names.

Kind regards
Icinix

How about NOT buying the game if you dont like the combat? Other people dont want to have a skip combat option put in exclusively just for you. If you really want it that badly, then feel free to make a mod yourself.

Also, go back to playing Call of Duty or sh!t like that if you want to make people asplode instead of enjoying a story and roleplay.

Very mature. For your information, there are other reasons to play a game than pew-pew. I enjoy a good story, nice graphics, interesting, well-voiced NPCs, exploring, sneaking and yes, role-playing. Combat is nice in moderation. Thing is, I can't mod. I have no idea how that's done - and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
And I'm not the only one who would like the button. The whole discussion is just idea-bouncing anyway, because the last game proves that BioWare doesn't really care. That's fine. And as for me buying games or not, that is, with all due respect, none of your business.

I may be a minute late and a mile short...

But skip the combat for what story? The entire Act 1 plot can be skipped.

"We need money for the deep roads!"
"Here's some money, and we found this mage dude with maps."
"To the deep roads!"

Seriously, this feature was already in the game. Now, if you wanted a "skip combat" button while still getting XP and money... you have to pay your dues to get your rewards, you lazy bum. (Meant in a humorous way).

You know, you are partially right concerning DA2 ^_^
It just proves that this isn't a good RPG, because there should be more to one than no-brainer quests as a flimsy excuse to make things dead. There should be other options.

No one is forcing you to read threads you don't want to you know. And even though you know this perfectly well, no one is asking for bioware to remove combat. No one. We want button to skip tedious and unnecessary combat with hordes of bandits if we so want.

Even if they implemented this you wouldn't have to use said button.

that so?

No, it´s fine to like FPS as long as their good. It´s just, CoD sucks ass. And it´s a game that every idiot plays. Don´t get me wrong - not every CoD player is an idiot. But every idiot is a CoD player, and Brennus acts like one.

People arent' asking for this out of laziness. It would be foolhardy to assume such.

I was opposed to this idea at first and even thought it was 'By non gamers for non gamers' kind of move. I have to admit that my initial reaction was knee jerk and wrong and apologize to Ms.Hepler as well (I think she has a good idea actually).

I think MORE OPTION is always good. I also think more things should be OPTIONAL. I think gamers when they pull up the options menu for their game should have a few pages of option to check off. All kinds of things should be optional from mini maps, to quest compass, to journal entries etc. but this isn't a more option conversation so I will stop there.

Back on topic: Skip combat button really is akin to the skip dialogue button. Neither is more important than the other and the choice as to which is more personally gratifying and worth playing should be up to the gamer.

It's a good idea.

You can't win any arguments by telling people that their idea is stupid. I think I and others have perfectly good and valid reasons why we think this button would only improve the game for some people and make no difference for others.

Half of those people who oppose this have 1 argument. Go watch a movie.
That is not even an argument really.

Alright, a few days ago there was a thread discussing an interview of some dev who talked that there should be "skip the combat button". I found it hilarious. However today I understood there seriously should be that kind of button. I found DA2 unplayable because of various reasons, but one of those reasons could be easily fixed with skip the combat button.

This is not trolling. Or if you say this is trolling then you must say the dev trolled too who invented "skip the combat button" idea, which would still not make this posting trolling.

Better idea - don't play a game you're intent on hating. I'm going to call you a troll, anyway. I guess the dev gets caught in the crossfire.

I'm glad to see you have the series' best interests at heart.
