How dumbed down is ME2 RPG wise?

How are these threads still spawning? ME2 is great, I should have never come here, ME2 was better before I joined this community of haters.
It's sad to hear that...though it's true. Many of the people here are hating somewhat in some degree....it used to be better...people used to just talk about the game, story, etc. Now many are spoiled and expect Bioware to grant their wishes/vision of the game. After Mass 3 comes out...I'll probably leave these forums for a while...maybe forever. It's how it was with Mass 1 and 2. Once I get my conclusion...then I'm gone.

Mass 2 is improved...and technically should be viewed as a continuation of Mass 1....
because in all honesty...1 DID have a better story, atmosphere, and music (to go along with atmosphere), BUT 2 is a better game overall.

If by roleplay you mean bust out the calculator and hoard items in order to get the best possible combo of stuff, then it's completely different, and in my opinion better.

No, ME2 isn't dumbed down. It is over-simplified. To the extent that they are barely there. ME2 clearly catered to both media pressure and the mainstream CoD crowd in an attempt to boost sales. However, I am currently on my fifth playthrough, and while it is not the best game ever created, it is good.

You're not supposed to be carrying loads of weapons. The reason that there is so much loot is because you want to give the best possible weapons to your partners and yourself.Kane-Corr wrote...
Oh, and Mass 2 is really awesome...just different. Instead of magically carrying loads and loads of weapons that you as a marine loot from corpses...you are issued certain weapons instead. And, like a real human/soldier...you have to equip that from the armory...
.
Once you have chosen the best weapon for you and your companions you turn the rest into omni-gel. There is absolutely no reason to keep the lesser guns. Now whenever you go looting all you have to do is see which weapon has a better rank, or if you dont recognize it pick it up and compare.
I only carried the same amount of weapons, perhaps even less, than I did in mass effect 2.
Word? Word...

Yeah, I did the same...however, for a game like Mass Effect, where they try to be as real as possible...this had to be eliminated...BUT I know where the problem lies.....
For me, I bought the Collecters Edition...so I got the Collecter Assault Rifle and the armor....
Then The Gamestop Downloads, Dr. Pepper Downloads, etc.
IF you downloaded everything, then you had enough material to not even miss the old ways of Mass Effect 1. But for the general person who didn't do these things, alot was missing. So, from MY perspective, Mass 1 way was not as good as Mass 2...word?
Also, It REALLY doesn't make sense that Shep would have to loot bodies at all...breaks immersion...word?

I got the collectors edition, gamestop, and dr.pepper downloads as well... Don't tell me you you've used even half of those lol. For the collectors edition I never use Assault Rifles and the armor was very ugly to even think of wearing. Unless you like to pretend you're a collector working for the cerebrus in disguise or something...Kane-Corr wrote...

HAHA....No i didn't use any of the armors....though, I DID use the weapons...and I think thats why soooo many people hated the whole inventory thing...the choices were there, you just had to look/buy with extra "real" money. But when you had all of those extra things in your inventory...then you hardly missed the Mass 1 version of the inventory anymore.

it's an EA RPG. wich means, not really an RPG, more of a commercial champion.
-Sigh- Yes....EA totally ruined it right? Wrong. If it wasn't for EA, EVERYONE would be complaining that Mass 2 was too similar to Mass 1, and that many things weren't improved...
EA provides the money and marketing...Bioware Produces....people who bash EA need to get over their whole "holier than thou," attitude in regards to thinking there better than the whole mainstream audience. Just because a company wants to market an AWESOME game to more people doesn't mean it's bad. And any changes made to it will be criticized for being because of the EA sponsorship....
People can be really misinformed sometimes.

Mass Effect has an immersive story...if you couldn't recognize that THAT is what he mean't then YOU fail sir. Don't bash him for putting some input into this thread...and it was actually stated by the Devs that above all else...Mass Effect is about the story (characters, atmosphere, plot, etc.) Not about how many corpses you do or do not loot.

As for the RPGness I think that the making decisions and guiding the storyline to what yo would do makes it an RPG, but I am no expert. In the end, I don't care what you call it, I just love the fact that it is an story that you can talk with a friend about for literally, hours. A great game, but don't make the same mistake I made and play ME1 first. LOOK UP NOTHING!

Tell me what rpg doesn´t have end game weapons or armor, there has to be a limit no? so your point has no logic sorry.Naltair wrote...
I never missed the ME1 inventory system it was terrible and pointless once you had Spectre Gear.
People, the problem is not the inventory as the word itself, its the options beyond that, we could still have lots of gear and no inventory in ME2, we could still have mods for armor or weapons, we could still have grenades, we could still have omni tools, an so on.. each equipped would have different stats and choices... choices are something ME2 doesn´t have regarding gear.. armor or whatever besides weapons, this is because of static bonuses, if i want more health i have to go get that specific armor and not the other, this could have been done in a much better way imho, and this should be allowed to our hole team and not just Shepard.
End of line.
