This also works with Bethany, for obvious reasons,

If you make him a warden, is he happy as one? I mean on my other save he became a templar because he wanted to be someone. Being a warden certainly is. Or is he gonna whine about it like he always seems to?

He seems to become dissillusioned by the templars towards the end, while he comes to accept being a Grey Warden in time.

It seems to me he's happier in the Wardens. Plus, you can interact with him more as a Warden. You see him in Act 2, and while the interaction is brief, he seems to have a purpose. You see him again in Nate's quest, where he resents your rescue. By the end, though, he comes to accept his time in the Wardens and he has a great dialogue with Hawke as you await the last confrontations. In short, I liked him much more as a Warden than a Templar, and it seems Carver feels the same.

In my game Carver died in the prologue. I don't see how you can save him
The sibling that dies depends on your class. Mages lose Bethany to the ogre, while the other classes keep Bethany and lose Carver.
